Great game for the older folks
The game is more brain usage than shoot them up. I enjoyed playing this game and I'm 59. I don't enjoy the blow up everything games. This game tells a story and is alot more then just running around shooting everything. As far as I'm concerned it's one of the best video games I ever played.

This Horror Fan is Satisfied.
When approaching Alan Wake I wasn't really sure what to expect. I've always been a huge survival horror fan. I've been fighting off hordes of the undead since the first Resident Evil on PS1 (actually since "Zombies ate my Neighbors" on SNES). I didn't know too much about Alan Wake but I decided to give it a shot anyways. Boy was I suprised! This game turned out to be a jewel. Alan Wake has so much atmosphere you could bottle it up and sell it out of a soda machine. Some games don't get the pacing right, with too much of this or too much of that. Alan Wake seems to have pacing perfected (action, exploration, puzzles). If you're a horror game fan you owe it to yourself to pick this game up. This game has renewed my love for the XBOX 360. I just hope they don't take too long to make a full sequel.

Game Review - Alan Wake
It seems that David Lynch missed the boat somewhere. With the current rush of thriller style horror games hitting the market, he could have produced a game of epic proportions. In his absence, however, Remedy Entertainment has stepped up to the plate. If Deadly Premonition managed to capture the quirky characters and almost farcical style of Twin Peaks, Alan Wake has nailed the foreboding, fear-filled side of the series.Author Alan Wake is trapped in a story that he doesn't remember writing and his wife's life is at stake. Armed with his trusty flashlight and an assortment of weapons, he must stave off the forces of darkness lurking throughout the town of Bright Falls while uncovering the clues to his own memory loss, his mysterious, new novel Departure and the location of his abducted spouse. And it all plays out as cinematically as any game has ever managed to do.The StoryPenned by the deft hand of Sam Lake, there are definite echoes of Max...

A Nightmare Turns to Life
Alan Wake is a bestselling horror novelist who moved to the small town of Bright Falls, Washington after suffering from insomnia and depression. Wake is able to sleep again, but after he meets a mysterious woman, he begins to have terrible nightmares. As he puts these nightmares on paper for a new book, he soon notices that all the things that happen in his book are coming true right before his eyes.

Using cinematic effects and technology such as real-time lighting, shadows and reflections, you'll be treated to a game that is oozing with atmosphere and able to invoke an emotional response from the player. The realistic environment features real-time weather and light changes that effect the game play for a remarkably immersive experience.

The game gives the player goals, but how he chooses to go about completing them is up to him. Clues are scattered throughout the town, and solving mysteries will require players to pay close attention to the little details.

Intense Combat
In addition to solving puzzles and exploration, the game also pushes players into serious action and combat; when night comes, creatures will take their best shots at Alan, and you'll have to be quick with strategy as well as weapons to beat them back.

Alan Wake presents an unusual and new gaming experience that features a riveting, multi-layered story while giving the player the ability to freely roam a giant environment. It supports Dolby Digital sound.

The wait was worth it.
I got my copy of the game yesterday and have been playing it non-stop. First, let me say that if you have the money to spring for the limited collectors edition it is worth it. You get a very well written book, the soundtrack, a bonus disc that includes themes and avatar items, etc. And the case that holds it all is a book. It is a surprisingly well crafted edition of the game. Also, if you buy this new (you might get lucky if the person you are buying this from doesn't use the free token when the DLC comes out) you get a code to download a free add-on for the game to be released in the following months. Now to the game. I'm not going to reveal any spoilers but rather comment on the gameplay and mechanics. First, the two things that bothered me, but did not take away from the experience and pull me out of the immersion. There is some screen tearing, although it's not much it is noticeable. And the other thing is the mouth to voice sync. A character will be talking to you...

Pleased with the Collectors Edition
Not much to be said that has not already been posted. I have been anticipating this game for some time simply because the plot looked very interesting and it just seemed like my kind of game. When my release day package arrived via UPS along with RED DEAD REDEMPTION I was extremely pleased to see the level of quality that went into making this LIMITED EDITION COPY. Comes with Avatar unlockables, a hard cover book as well as CD audio soundtrack (how many games offer that) as well as a bonus (content) disc including several themes and gamer pictures, as well as AVATAR unlockables and a code that allows you to download the upcoming DLC coming out in July? for free provided your XBOX LIVE email address is current so they can send you the code. I think it's an awesome game and the Collectors edition is one of the best I have ever seen. Right up there with the Gears of War Limited Edition. Super worth the money. Gameplay is what I expected and I have already been frightened a few times and...

Shockingly Impressive to be sure
I went in expecting something similar to a silent hill resident evil clone/mix; what i got however was an excellent game that perfectly melds the craft of writing and video games for something that (to me at least) is a wholly new and unique experience; moreover being a somewhat avid reader I caught tons of allusions to other works (notably Stephen King, and H.P Lovecraft). I can easily say that this is amongst my top 5 favorite games of all time. The graphics are immaculate (though i must say the animation leaves a little to be desired (everyone talks as if they got a little excited with the Botox injections)) but ignoring that small fault the game is In my opinion, perfect. If you like horror novels, believe me when i say this game is not something you'll regret spending money on.but be warned, this is not similar to most games, in the sense that most of the story is left up to the player to discover, and if you're not ready to spend time deciphering the clues, then the...

Good game with control issues
The Good: a well done (if extremely creepy) story/game presentation, with great voice acting, sound and graphics. The Bad: sluggish and poorly-adapted PC controls can make some of the fights and game interactions extremely frustrating.Because Gamespot rated this game 8/10, (and it was under $50) I thought it was worth checking out. I had no idea what to expect from Alan Wake, and thus far the experience has been...interesting (I'm on Chapter 5 and almost done with the game). It's an incredibly immersive and creepy game, setting you center-stage as the protagonist in a Stephen King-esque horror novel. The story arch and presentation are unique and present the game in chapters (like a book, hence the novel theme), which is a nice touch. The story, sound, voice acting, and graphics are well done.As has been pointed out in other reviews, the game suffers from some controller issues. This may be a console port-PC conversion problem that so many PC titles are...

A Different Twist on Survival Horror
Being a fan of the older Silent Hills and Resident Evils I was skeptical of this game. I enjoy shoot em up games, buy miss the old style of run to live. That being said, this game is definitely like the old games. You have to play smart and cant just charge into battle. It keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time. The game is split up into 6 "episodes". Each chapter plays out like a self contained story that is a part of the whole story. I dont want to say to much, but for this price you cant go wrong.

welcome to crazytown
Deadly Premonition is obviously not a big budget title, and as such it cant compete with other games in terms of graphics or polish. If you give the title a chance however, you are likely to find that its quirky characters and story will engage your attention in a way that other games with their multi-million dollar budgets simply cannot. With that much money on the line, no mainstream studio would ever greenlight a project as weird as this game. The graphics are far from terrible, and in a way they have a certain charm that requires you to use your imagination to fill in the blanks. Deadly Premonition reminds me of the sort of bizarre japanese games that were de rigueur on the Dreamcast, games like Illbleed, Maken X, and D2. The investigation is over 20 hours long and there is an abundance to see and do in the town of Greenvale. Gamers with an open mind who would like to see something different, or maybe just to revisit an earlier era of far-out gaming that is now all but...

Deadly Premonition: Less Polish, Miles More Depth
Deadly Premonition has been met with a number of bad reviews. It occurs to me that they seem to follow a similar thread. Allow me to demonstrate the general consensus among those who so vociferously detest this product: "THIS GAME IS AWFUL BECAUSE OF THE GRAPHICS, AND SINCE THE GRAPHICS ARE AWFUL, IT MUST THEREFORE BE ASSUMED THAT THIS GAME IS AWFUL. TOTALLY WEAK GRAPHICS ARE MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE TO A GREAT GAMING EXPERIENCE. ONE STAR! ALSO, I SHOULD NOTE THAT I AM NOT RATING THIS GAME FOR THE GAME ITSELF, BECAUSE I HAVE NOT PLAYED IT."I, however, have played this game. A lot, in fact. I sunk around 50+ hours into the whole experience and found the game to be engrossing and easily worth the twenty dollar asking price. So how could I be so wrong, having played the game and all? Because I didn't know the truth. The ineffable yet utterly obvious fact: good video games didn't exist prior to Modern Warfare 2. There was no such thing as a good game for the NES or...

Gameplay
Action in Deadly Premonition is split between investigative gameplay required to solve the series of murders that have been committed in Greenvale and combat tactics needed to survive the bevy of creatures that inexplicably lurk the town and its surroundings. The game features a persistent open world which the player in the role of Agent Morgan can explore at will, searching for clues and observing and/or interacting with non-player characters (NPCs). The game is populated with more than 30 NPCs, each with its own personality, backstory, etc. These townspeople are wary of becoming the next victim of the murderer on the loose, and one perhaps of being exposed as the killer. Because of the variety of NPC attitudes toward Agent Morgan and his investigation, as well as the persistent gameworld allowing them to have their own schedules which vary from hour to hour, players can stalk them, hoping to reveal clues, character insights and even side quests. Deadly Premonition also contains a wealth of horror-survival combat gameplay. As players crisscross the gameworld in search of clues to the murders, they will encounter dangerous, otherworldly creatures. Some of these like the zombie like "Shadows" can be dealt with using a variety of melee weapons and firearms available in the game, but players will also encounter the legendary axe-wielding fiend known as the "Raincoat Killer". What if any connection is there between these creatures and the murders afflicting the town? That is up to you to determine. What is certain though is that they pose an immediate and very real threat to your survival, making players' decisions whether to run or stand his ground crucial in each varying situation.

A lot of ambition for a low price of admission
When I first saw trailers for Deadly Premonition, I was quite intrigued (I love adventure and survival horror games)-so I was going to get this game regardless price or quality (there are so few games in those genres these days that it's hard to get my fix)... and when I heard that it was going to be 20 bucks, I got even more excited (most budget games these days cost 40... which is 20 bucks more than what a budget game cost one console generation ago). I have to say, I've been very pleasantly surprised with this game.Graphically, it's no showboat, that's for sure, but it's competent--especially for the price. The character models look like high-end original XBOX models, but the environments, especially texture-wise, are rather lacking. I had seen the previews and the price tag, so I wasn't...

Buy Alan Wake

Alan Wake's American Nightmare is a standalone, more action-oriented experience than Alan Wake, set in a fictional episode of Night Springs, the Twilight Zone-style TV show that appeared in the main game. Xbox Live Arcade spin-off Alan Wake's American Nightmare has been found buried within Steam's registry, suggesting a release is imminent. Earlier this year Remedy released the PC version of Alan Wake, which made its debut on Xbox 360 in 2010, first on Valve's digital platform. It's just not befitting of Alan Wake.

When I thought the gaming world would never stop putting out mindless first person shooters, alas a game which unlocks the full potential of todays technology. s intense atmosphere, deep and multilayered story, and exceptionally tense combat sequences provide players with an entertaining and original gaming experience. The presentation to the senses overloads ones reason, while the story entices the thoughtful, leaving skeptical video game disbelievers engage more fully in the artistic renderings.

)  The game world design is also similar between the two games but locations are cosmetically different, with Alan Wake taking place in the mountainous forests of the north-western US, rather than jungles of some tropical locale.   This happened for days after launch… and days turned into weeks, which turned into months… which turned into December 2011 and the announcement that Alan Wake was coming to PC in early 2012. Don't get me wrong, it's not be the best we've seen on PC, but because Alan Wake was never an ugly game, with pimped out graphics running at liquid-smooth 60fps this updated DX11 version looks great.   So my unintended delay to buy Alan Wake for 360 wasn't in vain.   Each episode is delivered like a television show, complete with "Previously on Alan Wake" intros and lead outs at the end (the licensed music of which is excellent, fitting perfectly with the game's twilight-zone-style weirdness). Alan Wake (the character) was a best-selling writer who has been suffering a two-year bout of writer's block.   Not just because of the third-person perspective, but because of the animations and stumbling around that both protagonists share… They even sound alike (albeit with Alan Wake sounding more dramatic than charismatic.   After experiencing one simple little black-out, Alan wakes up to find that his wife is missing, a week has past, and the vacation home they were staying in hasn't existed since 1970… Not good.
