Great but, NOOOOOOOO!!!
Ok so I got $100 for mah birthday to spend and so I went and got this. I was real excited when I got it because I like space invaders. Turn out when I got it I noticed that a sticker was missing form a pice of paper with something on returns... When I went to put the batteries in it wouldn' FRIGGING OPEN! So in the end, we ended up having to pry it open. I put in the batteries and it works great now, except for the down side that the cover is taped on...) anyways great product. PS I'm 12 SO DARN CLOSE TO 13!

Outstanding, neutral, and complete
Many years ago I spent hours upon hours dreaming of building my own MAME cabinet. I bought a keyboard encoder, joysticks, buttons, two light guns. Unfortunately there they've sat - in a box - for years in my basement. I couldn't get past finding cabinet plans, figuring out how to put it all together, if I had the right stuff, and so on.All the information is out there to complete my dream - it's all free, too. The problem? Hours upon hours of reading, digesting, and comparing endless message boards, discussion forums, and vendor websites. The answer - this book. The author is the owner of one of those websites and he does an excellent job in this book of distilling all the choices of every aspect into an easy to read, neutral, and helpful manual of how to make that dream a reality. He chronicles the various parts and design options for your cabinet, lists the major pros and cons of each choice, gives vendors and buying tips, and then leaves the final...

This book covers everything you need to know before you build an arcade. I have thought about purchasing an arcade for my gameroom, however I could never justify the expense to me or the wife. Now I got this book to see if I can build my own, this book is complete. It will guide you through the benefits and expenses related to building one or buying one. I would have to say, if you are adventurous and have time and money to put one together, this would be the book to have.

A must have for arcade aspirants.
There's a definite difference between playing arcade games standing at a machine with real controls rather than sitting at a keyboard. With some games, like fighters, it's almost impossible to play properly. As someone who plays Q*Bert more than a sane man ought, there's a huge appeal to the idea of building your own personal arcade cabinet, despite the intimidating workload. Luckily, Project Arcade compiles the needed info into one handy reference.Thoroughness is the name of the game with this book. Every aspect, from planning and budgeting to applying the stickers, is well explained in this 500+ page book. The book is laid out so you can likely build along as you read if you like. The author tries to accommodate for the full spectrum of commitment; from simply buying a pre-built cabinet or unassembled kit all the way to linking to resources on building your own steering wheels and flight yokes from scratch. He also tries to be as accessible as...

Best MAME Cabinet book around
Ok, well technically its the ONLY MAME cabinet book around - but seriously this is very good. I started getting the MAME cabinet bug about a year ago, and took a stab or 2 at building some desktop controls, using the Author's website, oddly enough. Now, I have everything I need to go all the way. The Author is serious about this, and it shows. It's very well written, and the tone feels like he is working along side you in the garage, guiding you step-by-step through the construction. There is even a CD ROM included with tons of diagrams, construction plans, templates, and software. I haven't gotten all the way through the CD, but it is packed full of stuff.Man, my wife is gonna kill me....

Gave me the courage to finally build my own
A couple of the guys I work with have been messing around with this hobby for a while, and I've always wanted to give it a shot but didn't know where to start. Now that I have this wonderful book, I've started to dig in and finally build my own arcade machine. Most useful so far have been the author's guidelines on materials building, and the clear way he explains woodworking chores. I'm far from an expert woodworker, and many project books I've picked up go way over my head. John St. Clair's approach is very clear without being condescending.Overall this is an awesome book. If you have visions of a stand-up arcade machine in the corner of your den, basement, or playroom, pick up this book and get to work!

Excellent advice for newbies and experienced builders alike!
I've built four arcade machines in the past, and honestly wasn't expecting to find anything I didn't already know in this book. I was pleasantly surprised to find all kinds of info I wasn't aware of; it's a great source of inspiration- full of ideas I never would have thought of.If you're even toying with the idea of getting into this extremely rewarding hobby - you need to buy this book! If you've already built an arcade machine and have become addicted - you need to buy this book! It's that simple.

BUY Arcade

Buy Arcade Machines

The games in the bonus packs are, naturally, some of the better games available in the game as a whole, with the Gauntlet bundle (Gauntlet, Gauntlet II, and Wizard of Wor) our pick for the most popular in-app purchase.

With the technological advances of the home console drawing players away and increasing costs to maintain, not to mention the slowly decreasing population, it may not be long before the arcades of Japan follow the arcades of the US into obsolescence. It seems that by losing their local arcade, those customers just stopped going to arcades altogether. Where once they would buy expensive game machines and, whether they made money or not, the transaction was done with, now with network games, they must constantly pay connection fees to the developers. The power problem has forced arcades to find ways to conserve energy, like switching to LED lights or shutting off certain machines at different times of the day. Every time a game is ported to the console, arcades feel the impact in their sales as players stop playing in droves when the option of playing at home is made possible. Though on the plus side, this percentage payment method can motivate developers to make better games, as the profits of the arcade will more directly influence the profits of the developers. Arcades are forced to scramble and come up with ways to retain players by adjusting prices and getting newer games and beginning the same cycle anew. Arcades used to be the place to go to for cutting edge high quality games.

Being the huge arcade nerd that I am, I’ve actually went around Kuwait to various arcades asking the prices for japenese arcade cabs so I can get some street fighter II super turbo or third strike going on at home like it’s meant to be played. Buy a nice quality monitor or 30′ TV with low lag, and a pair of madcatz tournament arcade sticks all for under 200kd, plus you can get any and every neo geo and capcom arcade game to play. Arcade cabs are really beat up machines and unless you find them for dirt cheap it’s not really worth buying them except for the novelty and nostalgia. Some of the games are a good deal others seem a bit pricy (KD750 for Sega Rally 2 although it’s with the full moving cockpit) while others like the NeoGeo/Capcom machines are a steal at just KD75 with two games. A couple of years ago I was looking to buy an arcade machine and a reader contacted me letting me know they had a few for sale. List of all the arcade machines they have (with the quantity) All I want is a game that I still don’t remember its name. I’ve got it hooked up to my 46 TV and my friends and I play 3rd strike, super turbo, last blade 2, and a bunch of other cool arcade games when we’re bored. You can get a new joystick and buttons, but have fun wiring up. Arcade PCBs are complicated and easily break down (not to mention some PCBs just die such as easily super turbo ones and you have to have a special battery in them replaced). You can find some guys who will sell, but they’re asking really high prices for broken down, burnt in monitor, low quality machines. The best thing to do is to build a PC specifically for arcade gaming.
