Mother of a 4 yr-old and 2 yr-old twins
K - I - D - S ! I read the other customer reviews for this album, and frankly found many of them useless - this album is for KIDS, not Beatles fans. My kids love it - it's not that easy to find music actually sung by children, and my kids think it's terrific to hear little voices, voices like their own, singing. I am personally a Beatles fan, but that's not really germane to this album (though it did help me to teach the kids the lyrics). And to the person who in their review wrote "completely unknown" about Raffi... they have not been listening to much children's music!

Two thumbkins up!
While my kids love repetition, I myself was getting tired of "I'm a Little Teapot" and "Monkeys on the Bed", so when I stumbled on this CD I thought, "Great!" At first, I thought it was going to be original Beatle songs, with the Beatles actually singing, but it's not and actually I'm GLAD about that. My daughters (ages 3 and 1) don't know the Beatles, but they DO love to hear other children sing, offkey or not. I only wish that the Beatles had written "Puff the Magic Dragon." It surely would have been included in this wonderful compilation.

Beatles Songs for 'KIDS'
Operative word, KIDS. I am a huge Beatles fan, but I bought this CD for my kids. It is not fair to compare it to the original Beatles releases. The singers are all children. It isn't something I would sit and listen to myself but it beats the 233rd version of 'The Farmer in the Dell" and "On Top of Old Smokey".... My kids adore it! My daughter sings "Yellow Submarine" in the bathtub; she knows all the words! If you have kids, I very highly recommend it!

Great for New Beatle Fans
This book is very valuable for people who haven't read many Beatle books and don't know much about them or their music. If you fall into that category you will find this book indispensible. It gives an accurate outline of the stories behind every Beatle song, and what interesting stories they are. The people who inadvertantly influenced their writing, the events that inspired them to write a particular song, (sometimes a TV commercial or innocuous statement made by someone in the room or in their recent past.) A wonderful insight into their creative process and into their minds as well. Unfortunately for me, I've read so many Beatle books, that I have heard all of these stories before, so by the time I came across this book, it was kind of anticlimactic. Even so, there were still some things I didn't know like, Everybody's Got Something to Hide Except for Me and My Monkee is actually referring to Yoko Ono,(she's John's monkee) and is not about having a heroin habit, like I had...

Product Description

A lavishly illustrated, rollicking account of the real people and events that inspired the Beatles' lyrics.

Who was "just seventeen" and made Paul's heart go "boom"? Was there really an Eleanor Rigby? Where's Penny Lane? In A Hard Day's Write, music journalist Steve Turner shatters many well-worn myths and adds a new dimension to the Fab Four's rich legacy by investigating for the first time the ordinary people and events immortalized in the Beatles' music and now occupying a special niche in popular culture's collective imagination.

Arranged chronologically by album, the book breaks new ground by exploring how private incidents influenced the group's writing and how their music evolved. Turner reveals that Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds was really a drawing by Julian Lennon of his childhood friend; Bungalow Bill was an all-American tiger hunter; Doctor Robert was a New York 'speech doctor'; and much more. A longtime Beatles admirer, Turner tracked down and interviewed the real-life subjects of the songs, probed public records and newspaper archives, and spoke in depth to the people closet to the Beatles to unearth tales that have never before been made public. The result is a book that chronicles an untold story of the Beatles themselves.

Illustrated with over 200 photographs, A Hard Day's Write is a visually alluring and highly entertaining journey to the land stretching just beneath your conscious mind, mapped out with strawberry fields, fool-topped hills, and long and winding roads.

Well and little known stories behind the creation of Beatles songs
Steve Turner's A HARD DAY'S WRITE: THE STORIES BEHIND EVERY BEATLES SONG focuses on all the material written by John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Star that has appeared on offically released albums. Turner gives us a peak into how the popular songwriting team of Lennon & McCartney would turn ordinary every day events or items from their personal lives into the enduring classics that every Beatles fan knows. The book is extremely well written (although there are a couple of proof readings that slipped through the cracks for example there's a picture in the book with an incorrect caption claiming that Chuck Berry sued John Lennon for plagerism--it was Morris Levy's music company that did. Turner also misses the chance to tell about the fiasco of the John Lennon "Oldies" album that was marketed on TV as a result of this suit and the settlement)and factual for the most part. This third edition is the most handsome one yet and the book appears in a coffee paper size in...

Underrated-Not Afraid to Criticize AND Praise
I can't speak to the accuracy of every detail in this book, but I found the commentary and analysis to be very informative and entertaining. Riley, unlike many authors who cover subjects of pop culture, isn't afraid to approach the music with a loving but critical eye. I really don't need to read another author fawning unconditionally over The Beatles. Riley doesn't present his interpretations as fact, and seems to respect his readers enough to give them the credit to know that these are his opinions. Some of his writing on the music is a bit technical, but that's hardly the focus of the book, and would certainly be useful to a musician or someone fluent in music theory. Likewise, his writing is sometimes a bit lofty and convoluted- this often reads as if it were an academic work. But it's far from unreadable, and offers an all-encompassing, song by song, sometimes lyric by lyric, analysis of The Beatles (plus a few of their solo works). The music obviously speaks for itself,...

Underrated Analysis of Beatles Music
Riley's survey of the Beatles albums and singles is one of the most enlightening books on the subject. As a survey of The Beatles' music, the book cannot be faulted for failing to dig into the musician's personal lives. Some critics of the book complain of the technical language, but unlike the journalist who praised the "aeolian cadences" in "Not A Second Time," Riley is aware that The Beatles were untutored, basically intuitive musicians. His language is that of a musically educated person, not that of a pompous intellectual critic (of music or books), and Riley clearly worked hard to keep the analysis from flying over the heads of his anticipated readership, though perhaps he shouldn't have bothered. A reader may disagree with Riley's judgments about some songs and albums, but the author never fails to justify his opinions, and usually he offers some new insight into these now-venerable recordings. Best of all, Riley doesn't buy into the popular...

Tell Me Why, Indeed!
This book is brilliant, if not quite what I expected when I picked it up. I expected, I suppose, something much closer to "A Hard Day's Write": Stories behind the songs, tales of recording and inspiration. What I got was far better; a song-by-song, album-by-album, single-by-single, MUSICAL analysis of the Beatle's catalogue.I emphasize the word musical because this book is heaped with music theory. The effects of unresolved sixths, diminished ninths, dominant and subdominant chords and progressions... if you're not familiar with any term I just mentioned you might be getting in over your head. But, to his credit, Riley sticks to the specifics of each song that his meaning becomes clear as soon as you listen to what he's writing about, regardless of how much music theory you know.Riley's analysis of "Revolver" is spectacular, and I appreciate his nerve to finally come out and say that "Sgt. Pepper's" ISN'T the Beatles' best album (it's about time that myth was...

Product Description

A unique combination of musical analysis and cultural history, Tell Me Why stands alone among Beatles books with its single-minded focus on the most important aspect of the band: its music. Riley offers a new, deeper understanding of the Beatles by closely considering each song and album they recorded in an exploration as rigorous as it is soulful. He tirelessly sifts through the Beatles discography, making clear that the legendary four were more than mere teen idols: They were brilliant innovators who mastered an extremely detailed art. Since the first publication of Tell Me Why in 1988, much new primary source material has appeared—Paul McCartney's authorized biography, the Anthology CDs and videos, the complete Parlophone-sequenced albums on CD, the Live at the BBCsessions, and the global smash 1. Riley incorporates all the new material in an update that makes this a crucial book for Beatles fans.

Magical Mystery Tour Poster
Bought this for my 10 year grandson for Christmas who is crazy about the Beatles. He loved it and so did the rest of the family. It was like I Spy books we couldn't find all the songs and some we didn't know. My grandson wants to find the songs on internet and hear them all. Great Framed which is what I did for him. Very sturdy and well made, very clear to view and read.

Magical Mystery Tour
Everyone loved this poster at my twin grandson's first birthday party. It was a Beatles theme with Yellow Submarine cakes and lots of references to different Beatles songs. We had lots of fun identifying different song titles and characters from the songs. We would have liked to have a reference list of what we are looking for but still really liked the quality of the poster. It's now framed and in the boys bedroom.

While artists have been cherry picked to death over the years on itunes, selling one, two or three song titles from an album for a pound or so each or a dollar or so in the USA, The Beatles have been selling tens of millions of full albums retail... In the decade prior to this past year, in the USA they outsold EVERY artist xcept Eminem, selling 30 million units to his 32 million units in the USA- his catalog being on i tunes and theirs NOT. In the last year they sold nearly 4 million remasters in the USA alone (misleading as boxsets are counted as only 1 unit in usa) or nearly 14 million remasters worldwide. ” So how do the Beatles feel about the beatles being on i tunes. Well…except Cher who sang “Imagine” which was definitely a break from The Beatles, and The Hippy Hippy Shake was really a Chan Romero song. So why is the Blue album and Red greatest hits album lying in the thirties in the charts, while only one single has broken into the Top 40…. For most it’s just a mild inconvenience that you can’t get it on iTunes…but you can buy the album and upload it. In fact most of us have. At the same time they had a money can’t buy advert on ITV as the X Factor contestants sang their songs.

Let’s say that again: Sisel products are not just the best in comparison to all others but they are clearly and obviously VASTLY superior to any product for comparable use that Tom Mower Chief Research Scientist and Founder with the Sisel research... Classic Beatles’ song says “MONEY CAN’T BUY ME LOVE,” but happiness may be another story…. The new study doesn’t contradict the 2010 figure, meaning you could still get happier if your income rises from $50,000 to $75,000, but it’s still nice to see the base price go down for happiness but sad to see it is a result of the economy. Tom Mower President of Sisel says money can’t buy happiness but the lack of it can certainly create unhappiness.

Nearly 50 years after being acquired by an enterprising American publisher, the North American publishing rights for six early Beatles songs — including “I Saw Her Standing There” and “She Loves You” — have been sold to a year-old boutique music... Sony/ATV, which has tried and failed to buy the rights to the songs in the past, still controls the publishing for the six songs outside the United States and Canada. Round Hill joined with the Adage Group, another holder of historic music copyrights, to buy those songs in a deal for the GIL Music and GPS Music catalogs. But the songs stand apart because of the Pincuses’ little-known deal, which granted the family rights that lasted for the duration of the songs’ copyrights. In addition to the royalties generated through record sales and airplay, Mr. Gruss and Neil Gillis, Round Hill’s president, said they would be aggressive in seeking out new sources of income for the Beatles songs through licensing deals to films,... The catalogs had been controlled by the Pincus family, a team of New York publishers that cut a special deal for the Beatles songs in 1963, after one of the Pincus sons, Leonard, saw the group in England.

Despite the bogus gossip that Erika Garcia was supplying John McCartney back again his or her Beatles songs inside Jackson’s can, John McCartney may get back charge of his / her tracks in fact. The Beatles unique creating business, True Religion Sale Cheap , Northern Tracks, was setup through John Epstein and author Prick James along with the Beatles. It had been rumored early this year that will Garcia experienced set McCartney in the will along with has been giving his old good friend back the Beatles songs. So, Lennon and also McCartney missing control of your Beatles/Northern Tracks copyrights to All terrain vehicle Tunes. After that throughout 1985, Erina Knutson outbid Robert McCartney and also acquired ATV as well as the Beatles publishing privileges pertaining to $47. Billboard Journal accounts that Robert McCartney gets back some of his Beatles music within the next several years. Lennon as well as McCartney marketed their own Northern Songs investment throughout Oct 1969 with regard to 3. It has been reported in which Lennon’s heir, Yoko Ono, struck a deal using publisher Sony/ATV so they might retain Lennon’s area of the tune publishing. McCartney declared that several Beatles agreed upon each of the legal agreements Epstein presented to these people with no reading through them first. Unfortunately, True Religion Sale , Lennon as well as McCartney were still legally bound through his or her Upper Music publishing deal to carry on producing music until 1969.
