It's positively brilliant, darkly funny and incredibly well made.
Cyrus is a "Romantic" Comedy film from the Duplass brothers starring Jonah Hill, John C Reilly and Marisa Tomei. It's a film I had been looking forward to seeing after enjoying the trailer and being intrigued by what appeared to be a brilliant cast in an original idea. But does it deliver?Still single seven years after the collapse of his marriage, John (Reilly) has given up on romance. Forced by his ex-wife and now best friend to attend a party, he surprises everyone by meeting Molly (Tomei) and the instant chemistry leads to what seems a perfect partner for the lonesome John. Heartfelt, beautifully acted and delivered. A breath of fresh air from Hollywood.
Trust me, this movie is very good.The acting is very natural and the chemistry between the characters is top notch.Not a comedy in the sense of typical Hollywood humor but a 'thinking persons' comedy.A "dramedy", since it leans more towards rhe drama.I would love a soundtrack listing, or even a full print of the credits...It is a nice fresh film that is very well delivered.My Goodness me, the script, the acting, the casting, are all top rate. For Those Who Love To Be Scared
For those of you who love to be scared, this is just the ticket. From the very beginning this movie draws you into its world. Everything is believable. This is a documentary, and a special one. This documentary "tells" about Cyrus, while we see what is really happening in the world of Cyrus. And it ain't pretty. I have to agree with others who have written before me. Lance Henriksen lends such dignity and simplicity to his story telling, that his commentary becomes almost soothing, reasonable, and absolutely true. From a woman's point of view, there were scenes I just couldn't watch. But Cyrus didn't wield his particular justice just to women, men had to suffer too. One of the highlights of the film was the soundtrack. It was fantastic. From agonizing screams and doomsday percussions, to lovely, haunting melodies, and all genres of music, the film score alone will have you on the edge of your chair. Don't miss this movie. This movie has a lot going for it so why do I find myself not totally liking it? CYRUS is supposedly based on "true events" but I don't remember anything in the news or the multiple t.v. Shows like FORENSIC FILES or 48 HOURS MYSTERY.But as a movie, CYRUS is brutal, manipulative and confusing.Danielle Harris plays an investigative tv reporter who thinks she's gotten the story of a lifetime when a mysterious recluse (Lance Henriksen) says he knows the identity of a notorious serial killer responsible for the murders/disappearances of over 200 women. He narrates the tale of Cyrus, a disturbed man with a dysfunctional past and recounts specifically the story of three doomed women. Best Surprise Ever
My husband and I rented this movie to see how it was. We are big fans of anything serial killer plus lots of blood and gore. We didn't know what to expect with this movie but we were pleasantly surprised. This movie was great!! There is a psychological thriller going on while at the same time there is plenty of blood and violence. I'm not going to give the end away, but there is even a twist at the end, we didn't see it coming from a mile away.On the negative side, this movie was done on a low end budget and you can tell in some of the effects but they are still very effective. Also, the premise is a little unrealistic but just go along for the ride and you will enjoy this movie.
