A must, especially for those who appreciate Asian culture!
I'm a young adult, not an artsy-fartsy kind of guy, and most foreign films are just bizzare... but this movie was very good. If you've seen Dangerous Liasons, you will like this Korean version of the story. Heck, if you're any part Korean like me, you'll enjoy it even more! Most people overlook how Korean society was, since China and Japan overshadow them in history. The way the characters interact with each other, and the cool clothing and atmosphere make for a movie that is both mentally and intellectually stimulating! It has all sorts of elements, mostly drama of course, and will evoke many emotions from amusement to sadness. I feel that most people will find at least one character in this movie with whom they can empathize and become attached to their destiny in the film. For those of you who are "family" oriented, it is pretty racy, so no minors! Give it a chance!

Artistic, Erotic, Poetic and Tragic
I prefer this movie to the original Dangerous Liaisons for its brilliant colors and seamless flow of the plot. Though simple to the contemporary eyes, it is very refreshing to watch the "old-fashioned" but effective tricks men used 200 years ago to chase women. Compared to the original DL movie, the young actors portray innocence in a much more convincing way, which amplifies their ill fates even more tragically. The dialog is concise and poetic. It accurately reflects the elegance of the aristocrats with the simple humbleness and reservation unique to the Asian culture. I've watched this movie in both English and Chinese subtitles and feel that the Chinese translation depicts the essence slightly better, perhaps because of the closeness of the cultures.

Stunning imagery & great acting
This movie is incredibly stunning both in acting and imagery. The actors, especially Lee Mi-suk & Bae Yong Joon, give believable & deliciously wicked performances. Not to mention the scenery, full of rich vibrant colors that will take your breath away. It is definitely worth watching. I highly recommend it.

GREAT DRAMA - MUST WATCH
I normally don't watch historical dramas. However, I was actually on vacation in Korea for several weeks and got swept into watching this drama. Despite what the other reviewer writes, I can't emphasize enough that this is a DRAMATIZATION of history. No matter what your ethnicity, it's a fun DRAMA. I've watched over 75 Korean drama mini-series and have recommended only a small handful. Most are predictable with similar plots (love triangle; deadly disease with a miraculous happy ending; tragic). This drama is worth watching. However, even if your semi-fluent like me, you're gonna need subtitles to watch this drama due to the use of old-fashion Korean.

No Words Can Adequately Express the Unprecedented Joy of These 81 Hours
At no point in my lifetime have I felt so sentimental after viewing a television series. Yes, "Dae Jang Geum" (aka "A Jewel In the Palace") (2003) was magnificent, but "Jumong" (2006) is so overwhelmingly awesome on every possible level that it actually exceeds "Dae Jang Geum" in a number of ways. At this very moment I feel as if I've just completed a long journey with my closest friends, but now must say goodbye and move on. I kid you not, I feel hopelessly melancholy, because "Jumong" is an exceptional television series that has burrowed its way into my heart. This is special. The scriptwriting is no less than phenomenal. There are multiple interests at play (royal family members, merchants, sorceresses, other kingdoms, tribes, etc.), and it's interesting to see them strategize and plot against one another. One of the most enjoyable aspects of this series are the strategy meetings that saturate each and every episode. Each character has his/her close confidants and...

Jumnong rocks!!
I do not watch soap operas, telenovellas or mini-series of any kind. That said....I can't get enough of this K-drama!. I just sorta ran across it as I was clicking thru the channels. It has become must-see TV for me. Production values are outstanding, the actors are wonderful and easy to look at! Since I speak no Korean, I rely on the subtitles...and they're great too. I will regret the day this drama comes to an end.

Rivetting drama
Very quick delivery. Excellent drama series. My wife and I both loved this as much as "Jang Geum". Very well produced and acted throughout. This series has provided a much needed relief from the rubbish we see on the local TV channels. Hope to see more in a similar vein.

Producer Lee Byung-Hun and writer Kim Yeong-hyeon from "Jewel in the Palace (Dae Jang Geum)", last year's major hit drama here and in China, have again teamed up for a new historical drama.
The SBS drama "Sodongyo", translated as "Sodong's Song", has much in common with "Jewel in the Palace". Both deal with similar themes: a success story of a lower class person rising to the top, a love that transcends social position, a secret of birth and a rivalry between main characters.
However, whereas "Jewel" is set in the Choson Kingdom, "Sodongyo" takes place in the Paekche Kingdom (18 B.C. - A.D 660), a first for a TV drama. Aside from the romance between a princess and a commoner, an interesting part of the drama is that it focuses on a fierce technology war almost 1,500 years ago.

Poor Disc Quality
Like many DVD products with Chinese and English subtitles, the English subtitles are sometimes inaccurate. Additionally, beginning with episode 28, the subtitles of some episodes are totally out sychrony with the Korean spoken dialog. If one speaks Korean and does not need English subtitles, this doesn't present a problem. An annoying and even greater problem is that some discs freeze and no amount of cleaning will correct the problem. Overall the discs are physically an inferior product.

All in 5 discs...
It was delivered on time. Not too early and not too late. When I first received it, I was upset thinking it was all a sham. But after quick response from the seller, I've decided to break the package and give it a try. All the episodes are on the 5 discs. "All True." But can clearly tell it's definitely not the original. It is what you might call "second generation copy". Pic quality is definitely is not the best since it is not the original. But decided to keep it since it's sooooooooooo hard to come by and my sis loves this drama. Subtitle in English?!? NO! It's in chinese. And I can't read chinese... Good thing I speak korean or would have returned it.
