Chihuly 365 Days
Other than seeing Chihuly's work in person (breathtaking!), this is the best book detailing his work, theory and progress I have purchased. The photos are clear and give a full view of the range of his talent and creativity. The explanations of how he created each type of form over the years are revealing and interesting. This is the definitive work for those wishing to meet Chihuly and his work for the first time, and for those who wish to dig deeper into the man and the artist within.

Chihuly 365 Days
Anyone who has been to a Chihuly exhibit will love this spectacular book, bursting with color and images of various art pieces. My first experience with Chihuly work was an exhibit at Fairchild Gardens in Miami a few years back and I was blown away by the beauty of the spectacle of his pieces mixed with the nature of the gardens. If you ever have an opportunity to view a Chihuly exhibit in a botanical garden don't miss the chance; it will bring much joy. This book was a great way to bring a smile to my face reminiscing about the beauty I beheld in his work. This makes a great coffee table piece and a wonderful gift at a great price!

Product Description

The greatest living artist in the medium of glass, Dale Chihuly has long been fascinated by the colors and forms of nature. Over the years, his work has become increasingly open, using forms that show a strong relationship to the architecture of natural shapes. Here, lush illustrations showcase Chihuly’s unique glass sculptures positioned among the plants, flowers, and landscapes of some of the world’s finest gardens and conservatories, from St. Louis to Phoenix to Kew. Tracing the connection between Chihuly’s art and botanical life, Chihuly Garden Installations shows how the exchange between art and nature can shift from the harmonious and tranquil to stunning juxtapositions of scale and color.

Praise for CHIHULY GARDEN INSTALLATIONS:

"The glass artist Dale Chihuly is always good for a change of a scene. . . . Chihuly Garden Installations is a weighty compendium of crowd-pleasing work. Bright pink chunks of glass sparkle over lily pads in the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden in Coral Gables, Fla., while leopard-spotted bronze trumpets rise up through the foliage at the Missouri Botanical Garden in St. Louis—as close as man will ever get to making flowers."  Dominique Browning, New York Times Book Review

A Truly Amazing DVD
Winner of the Silver Medal Award at the1998 U.S. International Film & Video Festival.Travel to five nations as Dale Chihuly directs an imaginative whirlwind that integrates artists, craftspeople, engineers, and spectators. Between 1995 and 1996, Chihuly traveled with his team of glassblowers to glass factories in Finland, Ireland, Mexico, and Italy, and worked in his own Boathouse studio in Seattle, Washington. This DVD documents the extraordinary development of this ambitious international project, Chihuly Over Venice. In September 1996, Chandeliers created in all five nations were installed at fourteen locations around Venice. Months of intensity reach an apex as the Chandeliers arrive in Venice and Chihuly directs their installation in such varied places as the Doge's apartment at the Palazzo Ducale, in the cloister of Sant'Apollonia, and in the Rialto Fish Market.Chapter 1: IntroductionChapter 2: Spring 1995: Nuutajärvi,...

Product Description

Arguably the most famous glass artist since Louis Comfort Tiffany, Dale Chihuly has been credited with elevating blown glass from delicate decorative object to groundbreaking fine art. Chihuly's "Blanket Cylinders," "Seaforms," "Persians" and chandeliers are exhibited and collected throughout the world, and many volumes have been devoted to his bold, complex, fiercely colorful work. Little documented, however, though crucial to an understanding of his art, is the role played by physical space in his overall aesthetic--installation spaces, work spaces, but also spaces for living and for housing his extensive personal collections. Chihuly: Through the Looking Glass focuses on the artist's pieces and installations in relation to the spaces that generate, shape and surround them. The text, a mix of critical exegesis and Chihuly's own commentary (much of it solicited specifically for this book), provides a new entree into the work, mind, and creative process of one of America's most critically and popularly acclaimed artists.
One of the few contemporary artists who is truly a household name, Dale Chihuly (born 1941) studied interior design and architecture before beginning to experiment with glassblowing. After receiving degrees in sculpture and ceramics, Chihuly worked with master glass craftsmen in Murano, Venice. On returning to the United States, Chihuly established the glass program at the Rhode Island School of Design in 1968 and cofounded the Pilchuck Glass School in 1971. In 1979, after losing an eye, Chihuly ceased to blow glass himself, though he maintains a firm hold on the artistic direction of his studio. Top to learn more

Brilliant & Captivating Seaforms That Soothe The Soul
In Chihuly Seaforms, Artforum art critic Joan Seeman Robinson discusses Dale Chihuly's most exquisite and ethereal series, invoking the spontaneous automatic drawings of the Surrealists, the water lilies of Claude Monet, the action painting of Jackson Pollock, and, most cogently, Henri Matisse's Swimming Pool. Oceanographer and explorer Sylvia Earle, former Chief Scientist of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, finds in Chihuly's evocative Seaforms not only "reflections of skill, passion, teamwork and sheer genius" but also "tributes" to the sea. Together these writers help to illuminate what many consider Chihuly's quintessential series, which was begun in 1980. The saturated color of the 40 full-color pages, including many double-page spreads, conveys the sensuousness of Chihuly's work.Hardcover 7 1/4" x 9 1/4"112 pages, 44 color reproductions

Glass magician
I have admired Chihuly's work for many years and finally got to see his work up close and personal. Nothing beats that experience, but having this book to glance through -- with a great cup of tea or glass of wine -- is a very special treat.

Product Description

Dale Chihuly, the hugely popular artist who works in glass, celebrates his 70th birthday in 2011. Tacoma Art Museum, in his hometown, owns more than 150 examples of his work and is mounting an exhibition in his honor. Both this book and the exhibition showcase Chihuly's enduring interest in the arts and natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest, which are a major influence on his work.

For the first time, Dale Chihuly: A Celebration focuses on the importance of these influences. From Native American baskets to wool trade blankets, the gritty Tacoma of the 1960s, and Puget Sound, this exhibition and book follow Chihuly's development and accomplishments and how he grew and evolved while maintaining close ties to Tacoma. The essay by curator Rock Hushka traces Chihuly's creative process and the ways in which his abiding interest in the American Northwest enriches his work.

Praise for Dale Chihuly: A Celebration:

"This intimate, thoughtful celebration highlights the influences of nature and nurture on a unique talent."
