Sublime DVD Media! Superb Quality!
I have already written a glowing 5 star review for the 25 pack spindle of these and will simply reiterate here that these are simply the best DVD blank media that I have used thus far.I have used many different brands and must tell you that after burning to many tens of these disks I have yet to suffer a single error writing to them!These burn very very fast at 16X in my pc computer's NEC ND-3500AG 16X DVD burner and also in my DMR-EH50S Panasonic DVD Recorder (through which I record content from the television to its hard drive and then after editing the content, burn it to DVD media).I also want to let you know that there is extra storage space contained on these that I have not found with the many other brands I have used (including Taiyo Yuden, Philips, Maxell, Memorex, TDK)! I can squeeze more video and file content onto these Verbatim disks. That makes a difference in those critical moments in which I need to fit those extra few megabytes onto... Top to learn more

I have tried Sony, Maxell, Memorex, TDK... all of the usual supects and Verbatims is my media of choice. I have gone through two 50 disk spindles and can't recall getting any errors. Excellent Value!
There isn't a whole lot you can say about a particular brand of DVD+R media. If it works and there are no unusual issues, one is pretty much the same as another.That said, there are two things that will keep me buying the AmazonBasics DVDs. One is the price....the price is lower than other brands, and still a similar price even when the other brands are on sale. Factor in Amazon free shipping and sales tax considerations and their price is excellent.The other reason I like these is the shipping. The double boxing and packing ensured the media got to me safely.As far as performance, that is driven mostly by your PC hardware and burner. I have used about 30 of these so far to store general data, photos, video, etc. and have not had any issues. I have used some other brands (Sony) where I have run into the occasional bad DVD right out of the box.I would rate the Amazon Basic DVDs right up there with the Panasonic media, which from my... Dependable 4X
I have had 100% success burning both data and video formats with this media at 4X using:Sony Optiarc AD-7170A (firmware version 1.O4 supports this media at 4X, 6X, 8X, 12X, 16X)Plextor PX-708A (firmware 1.11 supports this media at 2.4X, 4X, 8X)LG GSA-T11N (firmware A104 supports this media at 4X only but can do 8X with other comparable media)NEC ND-3500AG (firmware 2.TB supports this media at 2.4X, 4X but can do 8X with other comparable media)As you can see, some of my older drives won't support faster than 4X with this media. I'm a little surprised that my oldest (the Plextor) would support 8X, but I haven't bothered to try anything faster than 4X on any drive because I'm rarely in that much of a hurry.My burns are generally more than 90% of disc capacity so I am almost always using most of the recordable surface. Fine for non-critical uses--3.5 stars
I tested these CD-R's on an iMac running OS X 10.5.8 with an external LaCie DVD/CD burner containing TSST guts. The burner is connected to the iMac via FireWire.I did not encounter any problems using the CD-R's. My burner was able to write to them at high speeds. The burnt discs were readable by other devices without any hassles. A minor quibble, though, is that the discs themselves seem to be more flexible and lighter in weight than the CD-R's I normally use (Verbatim and TDK). Another, more personal, quibble is that the discs have a glossy finish on the label side. I prefer a matte finish because the CD marker pens I use don't work terribly well on slick surfaces.For this product, the Frustration-Free Packaging isn't a big deal. The discs come on the usual spindle with a plastic, lockable cover. Not as good quality as in the past
I've used Verbatim disks a lot over the years and overall they have performed very well. In fact, just recently I tested some DVDs that I burned 3-5 years ago that had some family photos and videos on it, and many of the Memorex and Ritek DVDs were unreadable, but the copies on Verbatims were fine. So I have no personal problem with the Verbatims. Fortunately I had a second backup copy of this material on other media that was still good.One advantage to Verbatim DVDs is that they pioneered a more stable metal-stabilized azo dye that is said to be even better than Taiyo-Yuden's super-cyanine dye.However, in doing a lot of online research recently reading various discussions and blogs about what is the best media for long-term storage, there was general agreement from many of the participants in these discussions that Verbatim's once great quality had slipped in recent years. TDK makes a very reliable blank DVD-R that can handle up to 4.7 GB of data including up to 120 minutes of video with or without sound. Moreover, these blank DVD-Rs are capable of recording data at speeds up to 16x. These are very useful blank discs to record video. Great!The DVD-R discs are compact and easy to store and easy to copy to another blank DVD-R if you need to do that. While the discs are still blank, store them in the circular case on the spindle that they came in. After your burn data onto them, I would recommend storing them in slim jewel cases instead of paper sleeves. It's just better protection for your DVD-Rs that have data stored on them. Don't store these discs, burnt or blank, in rooms that become very hot; this causes damage to any brand of this type of disc and you could lose data over time.There are two caveats about any brand of this product: when you burn the data onto the blank DVD-R, don't be surprised if you see that the data is... Great quality media!!
For general purpose everyday burning I like the TDK's. Probably not any better or worse than other major brands like Maxell and Fuji, but I like to stick to one or two brands to keep my collection consistent. For very special movies and music, I use Mitsui silver dvd's and gold CD-r's. These are reputed to be the best on the market. The have a 100-300 year archival lifespan. Kinda rediculous when you can burn a new copy of any disc if you're worried about losing information. Anyway TDK"s are great!! Top to learn more

3 spool a year habit
While I'm not an expert on writable media, I've certainly used a lot of it over the past 10 years or so. In the past, particularly in my college days, I bought as much as i could while spending as little as possible. Over the years, i have found this to be a short-sighted strategy for backing up my important files. Many brands are not very reliable over long periods of time. I've also moved many times and my disks have suffered some abuse int he process.In my more mature years, i decided to stop wasting money on cheap disks that often resulted in burn errors and easily scratched disks and find a brand to which I could be loyal. So far, TDK has been my brand. I have been through 3 spools of 50-dvd for this DVD-r type in the past year and have gotten great results with these disks. These disks seemed to have more substance (i.e, weight / thickness) to them than some of the flimsier generic brands often found online. The price is fairly comparable to many of the other...
