Fantastic!!
I just got my copy of this latest compilation of Elvis love songs, and this is a real treat, folks!! With the exception of "She wears my ring" and a handful of others, this is really Elvis the balladeer as we would really like to remember him. A few tracks are sorely missed, as it is the case with "Memories" and "Hurt", and there's a couple of others I would have not chosen for this particular CD, like "You've lost that loving feeling" - whose bombastic approach derails the listener from the overall "soft" nature of most of the songs found therein- but, on the whole, this wonderful CD is a clear, unequivocal reminder to those with little knowledge of Presley's uncanny attributes as a balladeer (applicable to most of today's singers) that they all have a lot to learn from him, not merely as a rocker, gospel, C&W, or pop singer, but as a singer of love songs as well. Buy it, and you may also learn something..

The best compilation of Elvis love songs
There have been several compilations of Elvis love songs but I think this is the best. Several of the songs selected are the obvious classics that will be forever associated with Elvis (even if one or two of them were previously recorded by other singers) - these include Are you lonesome tonight, Can't help falling in love, Always on my mind, It's now or never, Love me tender, A fool such as I, The wonder of you and There goes my everything. There also some classic Elvis songs that aren't always selected for compilations of this type (She's not you, Good luck charm) as well as covers of songs generally associated with other singers, but which Elvis sing superbly. These include Hawaiian wedding song, Spanish eyes, You've lost that loving feeling, Make the world go away, Let it be me, And I love you so, You don't have to say you love me and Unchained melody. As well as the obvious hits and covers, this album also contains some great songs that are not well known -...

Definitive
Great collection of many of Elvis' love songs (or slower songs). Album one is the early Elvis, while Album 2 is the older, Vegas-style Elvis. Together, they offer a good look at these different stages in his muscial career, which offer very disparate styles. And with 50 songs, this pretty much covers all of the "love" songs Elvis had, so it's a fairly definitive collection. For that reason, it's a great buy.

It's a shame that only one side of Elvis' multi-faceted talent is remembered 25 years on from his death but there is so much more to the millennium's greatest performer than garish jump suits and shaky legs. The 50 Greatest Love Songs reminds us what a great singer Presley was; coming from the heart with more feeling and passion than most could ever imagine, all 50 of these songs are classics of the last four decades. The double disc set includes all the up-tempo standards like the incredible "Suspicious Minds", "I just can't help believin'" and "Always On My Mind" plus the Dusty Springfield signature tune "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me". Also included are some of his older works from before and during the cinema years like "Good Luck Charm", "Love Me Tender" and "Old Shep". So no blue shoes, no sequinned jump suits, just the king singing about life, love and heartache. --Georgina Collins Top to learn more

Having an Elvis themed party?
This is a great little song book with all of the traditional Elvis tunes such as Don't Be Cruel, Heatbreak Hotel, and (Just want to be your---)Teddy Bear. Then there are some tunes you may not have heard such as Wooden Heart and Rock-a-Hula Baby. And there are also some tunes with riotous lyrics such as Party and Shake That Tambourine. The music is an easy read but not over simplistic. This is a worthwhile purchase for $20 of a great compilation of Elvis tunes.

Love Elvis in anything!
I am a die hard Elvis fan! I mainly purchased this because of the 'unseen footage'. While I will say there were a few I have not seen, many I have. I did enjoy the DVD but can definitely say this would be a DVD more for 'beginners' that are learning about Elvis. I felt a good chunk of the DVD revolved around his movies (it showed previews from back in the day) and it was ok, but I honestly probably wouldn't put it in the DVD player again. Happy I bought it because I love anything Elvis, but not overly impressed.

A Presley Concept Album
"Elvis Country" remains one of Presley's best and most enduring albums. It's certainly his finest studio LP of the 1970s. For perhaps the only time in his career, Elvis chose to make a concept album that reflected his eclectic taste in rock, blues, country and gospel. As a result, "Elvis Country" has a seamless quality that cannot be found on any other Presley album. Every track is a gem -- from the passionate "Tomorrow Never Comes" to the jam-session atmosphere of "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On" to the stirring poignancy of "Make the World Go Away." You can hear Elvis' mastery from beginning to end. In retrospect, "Elvis Country" is Presley's most rewarding studio album as well as a timeless personal statement.

Legacy Edition !
I think most of the information regarding this truely magnificent album can be found in the previous well written reviews. The Album is truely one of Elvis' greatest efforts and often neglected to be mentioned as one of his best work and maybe one of country music best albums ever......What the previous reviewers fail to understand is this is a legacy re-issue - not a collection, and as such should be as close as possible in any aspect to the original album release in 1971 ( for better or for worse ).So if you are looking for the complete versions without the connecting segments - buy the "Walk A mile In Shoes" box - All songs are there ( Not only 10 as mentioned ) , this box also packs together for the first time all of the 34 songs recorded on the Nashville legendary 04/70 sessions. As A legacy re-issue RCA has done a great job - it's like buying the original album all over again with all the missing singles recorded with the album but not included eventually...

Product Description

In January 1971, Elvis was well and truly back and on top of his game. During 1970, he chalked up no less than 4 Platinum and 3 Gold album awards and 5 Gold singles. As if this sales achievement wasn't enough, on January 16, he was given the award as one of the "Top Ten Young Men of The Year" by the United States Jaycees. His new album Elvis Country released that same month received critical acclaim. In an outstanding review for Rolling Stone, biographer Peter Guralnick said: "... Elvis Presley has come out with a record which gives us some of the very finest and most affecting music since he first recorded for Sun almost 17 years ago."
Elvis Country is, obviously, a return to roots. But it's the singing, the passion and engagement most of all which mark this album as something truly exceptional. All the
familiar virtues are there. The intensity. That peculiar combination of hypertension and soul. There is even, for those who care to recall, a frenzied recollection of what the rock era once was, as Elvis takes on Jerry Lee Lewis' masterful "Whole Lot-ta Shakin' Goin' On" and comes out relatively unscathed. He has never sung better.

Elvis Country received an RIAA Gold certification and spent 21 weeks on the Billboard album chart. The single "I Really Don t Want To Know" c/w "There Goes My Everything" reached #9 and #21 on the Billboard country and pop charts respectively. The June 1971 follow-up studio album Love Letters From Elvis also contains songs recorded during the historic four-day Nashville session that spawned Elvis Country, including "Got My Mojo Working" and "Life" (Billboard #53).

This new 2-CD Legacy Edition features both these classic original albums plus 6 bonus tracks, including the full version of "I Was Born About Ten Thousand Years Ago," the studio jam "A Hundred Years From Now" and the single "Where Did They Go, Lord" c/w "Rags To Riches," which reached #33 on the Billboard chart. I think he's courteous and sympathetic to black music and, unfortunately, he's more sympathetic to black music than many black artists themselves. Eminem is the new (Elvis Presley') because, number one, he has the respect for black music that Elvis had. As a musicologist, and I consider myself one, there was always a great deal of respect for Elvis (Elvis Presley'), especially during his Sun sessions. My whole thing was the one-sidedness like Elvis' icon status in America made it like nobody else counted. As far as Elvis being "The King", I couldn't buy that. Touring Presley’s mansion and its grounds is fascinating for fans of his music, and the Presley estate has done a marvelous job in capturing his music and life. In 1981 Elvis’s ex-wife, Priscilla (who became one of the executors of Elvis’s estate after his father, Vernon, passed away in 1979), hired a consultant to explore opening the house to the public as a way of generating the income necessary to... It was planned as a showcase for their daughter’s musical talents, so acoustics were as important as aesthetics. A recent trip to Memphis took me to Elvis Presley’s famed home, Graceland. Even before Elvis acquired the property, the house had been recognized as being at the upper end of Memphis society homes. Until 1981 the family continued to live in the house, although the neighborhood deteriorated as scores of souvenir shops opened to sell memorabilia, including vials allegedly of Elvis’s sweat, to the tourists who came to see the home from the road. Memphis realtor Virginia Grant had met Elvis’s mother, Gladys, by simply marching up to her pink Cadillac and rapping on the window when Grant spotted it outside a department store. Elvis’s fame was beginning to cause problems for the neighbors of the Presley house on Audubon Drive. Let’s compare Elvis’s Graceland with how ordinary Americans live today. by Elvis’s death it had expanded to more than 17,000 square feet. (Besides the deluge of fan mail to Elvis, his parents were getting over 500 letters a week accusing them of fostering juvenile delinquency.
