Regarding the Brother SE-400 sewing & embroidery machine
I just purchased a Brother SE-400 computarized sewing and embroidery machine from Ken's Sewing and Vacuum Center via Amazon.com. It arrived within three days. So far, I am VERY pleased with this machine.Loving embroidery, I decided to purchase the Brother SE-400, as it had all the features I wanted and it was within my price range. Prior to my purchase, I read all the web reviews I could find on the SE-350, as there are barely any reviews yet for the SE-400 (new on the market). Noteworthy is the fact that the SE-350 and the SE-400 are the exact same machines except for the additional computer connectivity that the SE-400 possesses. The SE-400 has a port for computer connectivity and comes with a USB cable which helps connect directly the sewing machine to your computer. This is an advantage over the SE-350 as this feature allows you to upload embroidery designs directly from the web(or your computer) to your machine, and update your machine's operational software from Brother...

This sewing machine is a dream!!!!I already own a viking and wanted to try embroidery so the price was right to see if I liked the world of embroidery. It is such an easy machine to use. I agree with the rave reviews for the se-350 now se-400.... for sewing, it's a dream of an upgrade from my battered but still working brother xr-40 bought from costco @ 10-ish years ago.for embroidery it's limited as the max hoop size is not very large,and an extra purchase, but fun to play with. I give it 4 stars... it's a great intermediate sewing and beginner embroidery machine.i purchased this machine (shipped promptly from J&R via Amazon) last month after a lot of research. what i found was.... the brother se-350 was pretty much identical to the brother project runway 6700 machine. the 6700 was recently updated to the 6800, adding 1 usb port, as was the se 350 was upgraded to the se-400 w/ usb port. the project runway machines come w/ a roller case, the se models ship w/ vinyl case. se-400 is 100 bucks cheaper than the PR 6800. the se 350 is still shipping for same price as se-400. Brother PE770
I love it - this was my Christmas present from me to me (my husband doesn't understand this stuff). I also have a Brother SE350 (4x4 field), this PE770 is an add-on and upgrade with the 5x7 field. The only drawback is the black & white screen, but I always run my patterns through software which has a color stitchout so that really is not a problem. It is extremely user friendly and I am glad I got it. Would definitely recommend it. Be sure to buy some size "M" pre-wound bobbins, this machine takes the larger ones - but the purchase is well worth it.

Brother PE-770 Embroidery Machine - LOVE IT !!!
I love this machine!! It was incredibly easy to set up and performed just like the instruction booklet said it would. The designs look great. It's easy to increase and decrease size and change threads, etc. I've never used an embroidery machine, but this is fun! It's easy to download designs from the internet and try them on the machine. The only problem I've had was the skipping of some stiches on the patterns, but I believe this is due to the poor material I was using for practice. My only complaint is I wish I'd known how much I'd love this as I would have bought a bigger one!

Great machine for the price.
I didn't want to spend too much on an embroidery machine before knowing if it would be something that would get a lot of use. Although I don't have a dedicated sewing room I opted against getting a combo embroidery/sewing machine because I already had a regular machine. I spent almost a year researching machines and the major selling point besides price was that it takes a thumb drive. It was really easy to get started without having to study the manual too extensively. I hate anything with a steep learning curve because I have very little time to sew. I don't want to spend my precious time reading the manual. I had been looking at Babylocks, but regardless of what the Babylock sales person said, the Brother machines appear identical and much less expensive. I don't have time to take classes (an advantage of buying from a dealer) so I went for the cheaper Brother. Also, Babylock doesn't sell this model as a stand alone embroidery machine. Great Machine
I was going to get a regular sewing machine, but it was only about $50 extra for one that could also do embroidery. The machine I decided to get was the Brother LB6800PRW. This is exactly the same as the SE-400, except it comes with a carry-cart for portability, and has some 'project runway' branding on it. Both have a 100mm by 100mm embroidery field (4 inches by 4 inches, though the hoop looks bigger in pictures). The LB6800PRW was only a few dollars more than the SE-400 when I purchased it, and the bag that comes with the LB6800PRW will at least keep the dust off the machine once I get bored with it. Both the SE-400 and this one have 512k of memory that can be accessed though USB, so you can make and load embroidery patterns from a computer. I don't understand why that is even optional, all embroidery machines should allow USB connectivity, there is more than just letters to embroider. Software to make your own embroidery is another matter, as nothing comes with the machine for...

Love this machine
The LB6800 is a lovely machine with computer connectivity so you can download free embroidery designs from the internet.As a 'Project Runway' model it seems a little bit better made than a model made especially for the 'big box' stores. It sews and embroiders very well but I had problems at first with old and non branded threads. However, having bought Robison Anton threads and Madeira threads I have embroidered a few items for my grandchildren and they were beautiful. I have since made some curtains with heavy duty fabric with a velvet insert. The machine sews well over double and triple thickness quietly and smoothly without the 'clunking' sound my previous model made. It has so many features it may take a while to learn them all but I really love this machine. It also comes with an attractive rolling cart for taking the machine to classes which will protect it and the embroidery unit from knocks and scrapes. All in all I am very happy I bought this machine.

Don't buy this machine!
I thought I had done my research on this machine but man was I wrong! After I had purchased this machine, I read that there is NO DIFFERENCE between this one and the SE 400 which you can buy for a full one hundred dollars less! The SE 400 is 369.00 right now on Amazon.com. Oh yes, there is a difference, you have the name project runway on your sewing machine and you get the little bag to cart your sewing machine around in. For that, you pay an extra 100 bucks! I never had any intention of using the bag, I would be embarrassed to cart around my sewing machine in a P.R. bag, I bought this one because I was told it was recommended by consumer reports so I looked no further. Don't get me wrong, this machine does what it says and is fun but the hoop is small and you have to buy larger hoops to use the larger designs. Much more than bargained for
I don't normally write reviews, but I wanted to take a minute to say I am really happy with my new Brother machine as well as the Grand Slam Package. The seller Mr. Vac & Mrs. Sew did deliver in two days and the packaging was very sturdy. I was very surprised to see two big boxes delivered. Once I had determined which was machine and which was goodies, I was more excited to open the additional box that came with my new Brother. I had expected the thread to be sample sized about 2 inches long and ½ inch in diameter. I was very surprised to see full size spools in 61 colors. Also were 144 bobbins all pre-wound and ready for me to start. Included was a full size of Tear away stabilizer, again I was expecting sample sizes.The Brother has been very user friendly; I have to admit I was a little scared to use it. Oh Brother!
I thoroughly researched a new machine in time for Christmas after many years of Singer, which I feel has declined in quality over the years. I found this deal on line and (hint, hint) told my son about it to rally all the kids to pitch in. I couldn't be happier!! I'm an art teacher, so had my whole Christmas break to "play" with the new machine. The directions provided are some of the most detailed and helpful I've ever seen. Presser feet are metal again! The machine simply invites you to get started. The supplementary package is amazing and is all it promised - and much more than I expected - as a skeptical customer. The best thing I've gotten in a L-O-N-G time!

Great Machine for the Money
I have to say, I have had great luck buying through Amazon, even though I have to pay the taxes for Washington state, I usually always get the best deal out there.In regards to the Brother machine, so far it is a winner. I have only tried the straight stitch and the zigzag, but I will leave updates on how well it does on the the other stitches, button hole, and the embroidery stitching. After sewing with 1974 Kenmore sewing machine it's like night and day so far. The only problem I have had, or I should say my mother has had is sewing netting...but I do believe it is her fault, because if you go slow I have had no problem, but she forgets sometimes and the and will go faster then she should and the netting has gotten entangled in the machine, but it is an easy fix...I just need to remind her to take it easy on the speed when sewing light weight materials.I am very happy with this machine and the capabilities it has. Elipse Hoops - No Problems
I recently purchased the Elipse 4-hoop package after purchasing the Brother PE700ii. I was hesitant, but found another website in which two people gave favorable reviews. So I took the plunge. I am very happy and satisfied with these hoops. The 5x7 hoop is fully identical to the original Brother hoop that came with the machine; in fact, it's my opinion that the Elipse hoops are a bit sturdier.The included thread is a great bonus; it's Polystar polyester thread, which is 50 wt., the size specific to my Brother machine.The included stork scissors are ok. I use Gingher embroidery scissors, and these stork scissors seem kind of cheap. But they're included and some may find them useful.I don't think you can go wrong as the price can't be beat!

Loving the hoops!
I purchased the hoops about a month ago, and am wondering how I survived so long with out all of the sizes! A 5x7 hoop is what came with my machine and I always just made do with it. Now that I have had the 2x2, 4x4 and 5x12, I am amazed at how much easier my sewing projects have become! (Onsie's are so much easier with the 4x4!)The hoops are great! I can tell absolutely no difference between these hoops and the Babylock hoop that came with my Babylock embroidery machine. ( I have the Emore)The scissors and the thread were just bonus for me although I have to say I love the scissors because they have such a sharp point. I use them a lot for applique designs in those hard to reach area's.A nice selection of colors of thread were sent too and as far as I can tell so far, the quality is good.Over all I am super pleased with my purchase, the price was great and the hoops are awesome!
