PERFECT Classroom Farsi TextBook
I LOVE this book. First of all, there are some reviews that are not fair to this book. This book is NOT not like "Persian for Dummies" to be used without an instructor. This book is designed for the University Students and it definitely needs to be taught BY AN INSTRUCTOR. Some people thought this is a self learning/teaching book, which is not. When used properly with an instructor, this book is PERFECT. I highly recommend those interested in learning PErsian take classes at Universities and use this book to learn Farsi the CORRECT WAY. Good luck! Khodahafez, -Tabasom Noorbakhsh

Product Description

LEARNING PERSIAN (Book and Audio CD) teaches through a method in which all lessons are presented in the language to be learned. Concepts and vocabulary are built up gradually in each chapter by adding to those introduced earlier and by integrating all of the ideas. Frequent repetition reinforces what the student has already learned. An English-Persian vocabulary at the end of each lesson helps the student complete the exercises.
The book includes: a grammar related to the lessons; a glossary of grammatical terms in Persian and English; Conjugation tables of commonly used verbs; and a list of the present stems of the irregular verbs. Top to learn more

I wish this had been available when I started learning Persian
What a refreshing difference from some existing Persian language textbooks. Persian script is used from day one, rather than requiring students to master phonetic symbols that are about as hard to learn as the Persian script. Instead of throwing at the student new words never again used, each lesson builds well on the vocabulary employed in previous lessons. The same approach extends to the grammatical points; any grammar introduced in one lesson is then systematically applied in the next lessons. And the book has a reasonable price.

Funny Stories for Speakers
I read Molla's stories in English not being fortunate to know enough Persian. I hope they translate more of these stories to English, because just mentioning Molla's name brings smile to the people who know him. In the present times, in the US we have Woody Allen, and in the East the impaccable Aziz Nassin of Turkey whose very name make you smile. Molla's Character is popular in the Middle East as well as the Indian subcontinent, the same way as another Persian storyteller, Scheherazade is. Molla, in the Persian culture is title for the learned men or teachers. When people saw someone with beard and turban, they already assumed he is a molla so they would throw their questions. For instance, Once Molla was hammering the nail at the end of his donkey's bridle, as he was going to a teahouse. Someone asked him: "Molla, where is the center of the world." Molla said," The center of the world is where I just hammered the nail to my donkey's...

Excellent for Persian Language Students
I am a student of Persian and have found this book to be an excellent source of short stories that are both enjoyable and relatively easy to translate. The binding is sturdy and the pages are heavy and durable, (Important if you're going to make lots of notes inside!) All the vocabulary I had to look up could be found in the Hippocrene Standard Persian-English Dictionary, also available on Amazon.

Amazing
I can't go more than two pages without something striking deep. There are many one-liners in the Mathnawi that say more than entire volumes of lesser works. Rumi has a particular way of shocking and humbling you at the same time.

Also known as THE SPIRITUAL COUPLETS
OF
MAULANA JALALU-'D-DlN MUHAMMAD RUMI

Jalāl ad-Dīn Muḥammad Balkhī (Persian: جلال الدین محمد بلخى), also known as Jalāl ad-Dīn Muḥammad Rūmī (Persian: جلال‌الدین محمد رومی), and popularly known as Mowlānā (Persian: مولانا) but known to the English-speaking world simply as Rumi (30 September 1207 – 17 December 1273), was a 13th-century Persian poet, jurist, theologian, and sufi mystic. Rūmī is a descriptive name meaning "the Roman" since he lived most of his life in an area called Rūm because it was once ruled by the Byzantine Empire.

Rumi was born in Greater Balkh (Bakhtarzamin), thus he´s called as Balkhi, in Wakhsh, a small town located at the river Wakhsh in what is now Tajikistan. Wakhsh belonged to the larger province of Balkh, and in the year Rumi was born, his father was an appointed scholar there. Both these cities were at the time included in the Greater Persian cultural sphere of Khorasan, the easternmost province of historical Persia, and were part of the Khwarezmian Empire.

His birthplace and native language both indicate a Persian heritage. Due to quarrels between different dynasties in Khorasan, opposition to the Khwarizmid Shahs who were considered devious by Bahā ud-Dīn Walad (Rumi's father) or fear of the impending Mongol cataclysm, his father decided to migrate westwards. Rumi's family traveled west, first performing the Hajj and eventually settling in the Anatolian city Konya (capital of the Seljuk Sultanate of Rum, now located in Turkey). This was where he lived most of his life, and here he composed one of the crowning glories of Persian literature which profoundly affected the culture of the area.

He lived most of his life under the Sultanate of Rum, where he produced his works[14] and died in 1273 CE. He was buried in Konya and his shrine became a place of pilgrimage. Following his death, his followers and his son Sultan Walad founded the Mawlawīyah Sufi Order, also known as the Order of the Whirling Dervishes, famous for its Sufi dance known as the samāʿ ceremony.

Rumi's works are written in the new Persian language. A Persian literary renaissance (in the 8th/9th century) started in regions of Sistan, Khorāsān and Transoxiana and by the 10th/11th century, it reinforced the Persian language as the preferred literary and cultural language in the Persian Islamic world. Although Rumi's works were written in Persian, Rumi's importance is considered to transcend national and ethnic borders. His original works are widely read in their original language across the Persian-speaking world. Translations of his works are very popular in other countries. His poetry has influenced Persian literature as well as Urdu, literature and other Pakistani languages written in Arabic script e.g. Pashto and Sindhi. His poems have been widely translated into many of the world's languages and transposed into various formats; He has been described as the "most popular poet in America" in 2007. Top to learn more

It is great to have Rumi on a Kindle! There are a few typos in this version which seem to be the remnants of a scanning process. Nevertheless one can't complain at this price! To get a feel for Rumi in context of the Quran (in which the Masnavi is anchored)see the kindle book

Best dictionary for English speakers
Even though I've "advanced" through most of the vocabulary and grammar in this guide, I use this as a supplement to my other Persian-English dictionaries because of the handy explanations of grammatical rules. The dictionary in the back is extremely useful, with both an English to Persian section and a section with the phonetic pronounciation of words (in Latin script) for English speakers to easily determine the meaning of (and learn to spell in Persian at the same time!). Very useful for travel and for students of the language who want a small resource guide.

Great for beginners
This is a great little book for beginners. Unlike many phrase books or even grammar books, it does not simply romanize the phrases, but also gives the text in the native alphabet as well. It includes basic grammar lessons, sentence structure (farsi is an S-O-V language), and 2 glossaries (English and Farsi). The phrases and vocabulary sections are well-designed because they focus on the sorts of dialogues that occur when people are just getting to know one another socially and move on to the needs of travelers. Additionally, the book is interspersed with various cultural notes and also contains some poetry by the famous author Omar Khayyam in parallel text (Farsi, Romanized Farsi, and English). In my opinion, this cheap little book is packed with more than enough information and vocab for someone in their first 1 - 2 years of studying the language and is a far greater value than most of its competitors.

not perfect, but a good resource for beginners
As a student of Persian language and literature, I had some serious issues with this book. The written Persian component to the words/phrases is full of spelling mistakes. The (colloquial) pronunciation is not always consistent with itself, nor always correct, and a few of the words/phrases are a bit quaint. The book provides a great introduction to the grammar of Persian, but its explanation of Arabic plurals is misleading. That being said, this book offers lots of great vocabulary, as well as many useful phrases that are, for the most part, idiomatically correct and commonly used. This book would prove indispensible to any traveller, and it is a good overall guide to Persian language and culture. I would, however, caution serious students of Persian not to rely too much on this book.

Aqua Keyboard Cover
Because of other reviews, I was worried about the color so I ordered two--one aqua and one teal. The color of the teal solid keyboard is just as it appeared online; however, the aqua is quite different. It is definitely more teal-blue than aqua in color. I do like the clear silicone look between the keys better than the solid teal cover. Both fit my Mac 13" very well. It adheres to the keyboard and I don't even notice it as I type. It shipped fast and I will not hesitate to purchase from Topcase in the future.

Doesn't completely fit, color darker in person
The skin does not completely fit the keyboard. It fits the keys and is useable but it doesn't stretch far enough. The color is darker in person but I chose to keep it anyway. There was also a problem with shipping in which my package was said to be one place but was really in another. I've ordered 2 products from this company and have had issues with both. I'm pretty sure I won't order from them again.

Doesn't live up to expectations.
This translator comes with about 37 language pairs already installed on a Micro SD card that comes with it. The Ectaco website makes it seem like the translator can access all the languages at will, but that isn't possible. You can only use one language pair at a time (e.g. English to Spanish, English to Tagalog, etc). To switch to another language pair you must use go into the settings and choose "replace language pack". This lets you access the languages on the SD card and then you choose the next language pair you want to use. Then it takes between 5-10 minutes for the translator to load the corresponding languages and dictionary. This is very lame in my opinion. The user manual doesn't make this very clear and neither does the Ectaco website. In fact, I returned the first translator I ordered because I thought I received the wrong model, since you can only see the English to Vietnamese dictionary when you first turn on the translator. I ordered again from another seller and...

Working under the banner of Pegah Books and later in partnership with Afra Books, Darakhshan has introduced over fifty texts to Farsi language readers. Besides selling books Mojtaba Darakhshan has also been involved in the publication and distribution of many Farsi language titles.   Speaking of Pegah Books, he states, “This is a real bookstore, perhaps the first real Iranian bookstore in Toronto.   This was the kind of store that you had to know about to be able to get to.   The shop was a joint venture between my father, Hassan Zerehi, who was more interested in reading and discussing the merchandise than selling it to customers, and... It’s hard to get a straight answer out of Darakhshan regarding his customers, the evolution of Pegah Books and his role in the publication business in Tehranto. In many ways, Darakhshan the man, is hidden under the covers of his books neatly stored amongst the shelves somewhere between a collection of political essays and short stories chronicling the extraordinary lives of a generation of Iranian...   He notes, “There was no publication for Farsi books in Canada at that time.   Working in partnership with Ghahreman yielded approximately twenty-five titles for the Pegah Books/Afra Publishing team. On Yonge Street, just south of Finch, Pegah Books has held a distinguished place amongst the strip of Iranian-owned stores for over a decade. Today, Darakhshan has been in the book business for over two decades.

The first version of this book was extremely successful – being translated into Burmese, simplified Chinese, Russian, Vietnamese, Spanish, French, Farsi, and Spanish. com and you can also contribute to it through the FLOSS manuals installation of booki – http://booki.

To say it is pointless to someone you only know for a few minutes and you don’t know what’s going on. She says, We tried hard to get in touch with you. I want to say, what do you mean, OK. As long as he saved his life long enough to bring it to radio and entertain people with it. I didn’t say it. And a yawn arrives to help me, and I help it along too. (Fuck the deskman who says what he wants to say, yes, I know the one who works the day shift and the night are different, I saw three of them. I want to say, mourning is not for radio shows, but instead I say ok and don’t even invite her for a coffee, it is their city, not mine, not even just for this moment. She says, I came to take you to our house (still she doesn’t say what kind of relationship she has with him, I don’t see a ring on her finger). I don’t say that I love the clean busses and if I ever become rich, I will buy a bus. And from here, I see only her salt and pepper hair and when I can almost see her profile, she sees me. There is no time to run away. I wonder if I should ask her what sort of relationship she has with the person I talked to, but she should be the one to say it. Instead, she talks nonsense. My thoughts are lining up. I see her hand come toward me and with no choice I shake her hand and start to say how are you, with no choice, and that is the way of life no choice, apparently. I want to ask her if she sees anything good in this face, but with a person with whom you still make small talk, how can you ask for truth. This excerpt from Alimorad Fadaienia’s The Book of Shapur is part of a three-website collaboration. She says, you know he spoke on the radio here, you didn’t hear that. I say, you know at this age, I get jetlag, now it’s time for me to go to bed. Although, he made the appointment, not me. Now if you know it’s an important appointment, an alarm clock could have solved that problem thirty, forty years ago, now, for sure, there must be something that doesn’t leave a person with regrets. She stands up, she says, so we’ll wait for your phone call. I want to say, I am not everybody, I’m not just after the story. I say, actually, I didn’t stay that long. I didn’t talk to a woman on the phone and I was not waiting for a woman. No, for years I’ve wanted people to stay away from me. I didn’t come for a party, I just came for some information&mdash. She says, He is not OK yet. I didn’t ask what kind of time was that for sleeping, maybe he worked the graveyard shift. She says, he is very busy. I want to see this person.
