Highly recommended
I have been teaching massage for over 20 years and I think this is an excellent text. I prefer it to Anatomy Trains, although that is also an excellent text. Beginning massage therapists tend to look at the body as muscle and bone, but there are more connections in the body than that. The Endless Web looks at fascial binding in a very understandable way, which adds a new and powerful dimension to a massage therapist's work.

Endless Web of Fascia
This is a great introductory book to the complex study of fascia. The pros are that the authors are very qualified and knowledgable on the subject, and that it is well-written. The cons are that the material did not go as deep into human movement science (kinesiology) as I would have liked, and there was very little written on how to work through breaking down the myofascia. However, this is a great purchase because there is so much information that should be considered before working towards an approach to releasing the myofascia. I would like to see a second book by these authors; specifically addressing how to manipulate the soft-tissue. Overall it was a fascinating read, and worthy of study for anyone involved in physical therapy, corrective exercise, massage therapy, personal training, or anyone interested in learning more about the human body.

Product Description

The result of more than two decades of research and practice, The Endless Web presents in clear, readable language a comprehensive guide to understanding and working effectively with the myofascial system, the 'packing material' of the body. Myofascia is a flexible network of tissue that surrounds, cushions, and supports muscles, bones, and organs. It also acts as a riverbed containing the flow of interstitial fluid, and is a critical influence on the immune and hormonal systems. In daily life, this connective tissue is an underlying determinant of movement quality, modd, alertness, and general well-being. The Endless Web is a fully illustrated guide to understanding how myofascia works, it supportive role within the body's anatomy, and how gentle manipulation of the myofascial tissue is central to lasting therapeutic intervention and how it can be integrated into any bodywork practice. Great view of connective tissue as a physical structure
Before I read this book I had never really considered the functioning of connective tissue as a "web-like" structure within which bone and muscle articulate. The authors contend, starting with embrionic anatomy and onward, that the c.t. forms a bed within which cells differentiate. From this view point of c.t. being a primary base for physical form, we are shown how all parts of the web are connected, and create "bands" that ideally are nether too tight or too loose. I didn't know much about Rolfing either, but apparently this bodywork deals specificly with c.t. Good book, great publishing company.

Fascial Release for Structural Balance--Earls and Myers
Although I commented on this book above in the critical reviews, I feel that it is appropriate to heap some more praise in a more informal and reader-oriented venue. The more I read (and re-read) the book, the more impressed I am at the eclectic combination of two great minds and bodyworkers. James and Tom do a fine symbiotic dance that exponentially expands their individual skills. My biggest concern is that only people who do structural integration will pick up this book to reap its benefits. "Fascial Release for Structural Balance" will be of great benefit to the beginning therapist specializing in relaxation work as well; it will open whole new vistas, not just with specific techniques, but more importantly, with enlightening one's deeper understanding of the human body that will improve the work in the whole range of manual therapies.Art Riggs, Certified Advanced Rolfer®

Very helpful
I got this book about a month ago and it has already changed the way I massage in a significant way. My ability to BodyRead clients' posture has improved, even though I have read Anatomy Trains already. I never felt that I was that great with Fascial release techniques, but now I have been using them with everyone and it has been working very well.

Great book on Structural Integration
These highly effective techniques are presented in an easy to understand format, with clear pictures. There is also a brief overview of the Anatomy Trains to supplement the techniques and help build efficient plans for clients with different postural compensation patterns. This is one of the best massage books I have ever read!

Product Description

Fascia, the soft tissue surrounding muscles, bones, and organs, plays a crucial role in supporting the body. By learning to intelligently manipulate it, a bodyworker or therapist can help clients with many chronic conditions, providing immediate pain relief as well as reducing ongoing aches and pains. In Fascial Release for Structural Balance, authors James Earls and Thomas Meyers—both respected bodywork professionals—argue that approaching the fascia requires “a different eye, a different touch, and tissue-specific techniques.” Designed for any bodywork practitioner using manual therapy, including physiotherapists, osteopaths, chiropractors, myofascial and trigger point therapists, and massage therapists, this book offers a detailed introduction to structural anatomy and fascial release therapy, including postural analysis, complete technique descriptions, and the art of proper assessment of a patient through “bodyreading.” Featuring 150 black-and-white photographs, Fascial Release for Structural Balance provides the information therapists need to give effective treatments and create long-lasting, systemic change in clients’ shape and structure. A RNs review from a patient/practioner's prospective
Wow! I thought I'd ordered the wrong book for my needs, which are 1.more knowledge of the process of myofascial release and 2. more understanding of places/points of anatomy. It has been a long while since I've been in school and a long time since I worked at a top teaching hospital in the Bay area in California.I read a few paragraphs, taking care not to damage the book, because I thought I'd probably return it. HOWEVER, after a few sentences I was immediately caught up in the beauty and clarity of this work. NEVER has physiology been made so interesting. Finally, I understand so many things that were just a jumble of memorized facts in preparation for exams. This book has rekindled my love of physiology and is even undoing my dislike of anatomy. Anatomy didn't make sense to me - it was boring - it was memorization. Now I am understanding why my body is so damaged from the stresses I subject it to, but better, I understand how I can undo some damage and prevent more.I...

A work of true genius, and lots of sweat
I am a Board Certified MD Neurologist, with osteopathic training, a Yoga Practitioner of 25 years, and have been teaching Yoga in the Ashtanga and Iyengar styles for 10 of those years. I was familiar with Tom Myers' work for some time. Needless to say I was awaiting this book's release with an anticipation that was not disappointed.Myers is that rare bird who can convey his insights in a way that is not only accessible but also enjoyable. As is often the case, the revelations in his book (and all of his previous articles) will, I predict, have a profound effect in the Medicine of the XXI century, and have come from "outside" the mainstream of the profession. The style is agile and yet precise (I particularly enjoy his command of Latin) The book's design is ideal both for straight-through reading and for focusing on particular interests the reader (manual therapist, yoga instructor or practitioner, etc) may have. The illustrations are awesome (to use that tired...

Bodyworker's Bible
Having had significant recent exposure to Tom and his school, I would like to add my cudos. The writing is supurb and entertaining. Presentations are clear, concise, and his writing is as animated as any I have ever read.I believe that this book was written for bodyworkers to explain the dynamics of the myofascial system and how it may be manipulated to help correct improper joint and connective tissue alignment. His metaphor "anatomy trains" is a beautiful description of the layers of contiguous or nearly contiguous myofascial layers that run along the human form. His use of a variety of illustrations old and new is amazing. I realize that he has a vast personal library so it is easy to see where spent many hours gathering just the right images that conveyed exactly what he wanted to say. This should be rightly called a "reference textbook" and sit close to your Netter or Clemente.

Product Description

Understanding the role of fascia in healthy movement and postural distortion is of vital importance to bodyworkers and movement therapists. Anatomy Trains: Myofascial Meridians for Manual and Movement Therapists presents a unique 'whole systems' view of myofascial/locomotor anatomy in which the bodywide connections among the muscles within the fascial net are described in detail for the first time. Using the metaphor of railway or train lines, Myers explains how patterns of strain communicate through the myofascial 'webbing', contributing to postural compensation and movement stability. Written in a style that makes it easy to understand and apply, Anatomy Trains provides an accessible and comprehensive explanation of the anatomy and function of the myofascial system in the body. The DVD ROM in the back of the book contains video of techniques, Anatomy Trains-based dissections and computer animations of the myofascial meridian lines.

includes full-colour illustrations of 11 myofascial meridians and the rules for discovering other meridians
. uses numerous full colour charts and drawings to detail the muscular and fascial structures involved in the meridians
. presents information on assessment of structural and movement patterns and gives related application to manual therapy and movement education
. provides a selection of techniques from the library of structural integration
. includes an introduction to the fascial system as a whole, with points-of-view and the latest research findings on the fascial system's responses
. offers a fun approach to learning essential structural anatomy, comparing the connective tissue system to a railway network
. video material on the accompanying DVD ROM to visually present the anatomy as described in the book.

Full colour throughout
. New design and layout
. 140 New full colour figures including dissection photographs and client photos
. DVD ROM in back of book

The Master...
Paoletti, and his book on fascia are masterpieces. This is the best book on fascia out there. Simple yet comprehensive. Great to have in your library! Anyone going into fascial work should read this book in order to understand the vast inter-relationships of the structures you are manipulating. Structure governs function as the body is a functional unit.

Product Description

The fasciae comprise a wide variety of body tissues including the membranes, ligaments, tendons, and mesenteries. These tissues are all derived from the mesoderm, which undergoes coiling or rolling movements during embryonic development. This is the origin of the inherent micromovements, or motility, that are so important in many osteopathic approaches to diagnosis and treatment. The fasciae are found at every level of the body and constitute a basic element of human physiology. They serve as the body's first line of defense, acting independently of the central nervous system, which is why they are referred to as a peripheral brain. From a mechanical point of view, the fasciae are organized in chains to defend the body against restrictions. When a restriction goes beyond a specific threshold, the fasciae respond by modifying their viscoelasticity, changing the collagenic fibers, and transforming healthy fascial chains into lesional chains. The fasciae keep a record of every trauma that causes a change in motility. Through the sensitivity of trained hands, we are able to perceive movements on a microlevel and can thus detect motility disturbances, which reveal the medical history of a patient. Remedial techniques, adapted to each patient, can restore normal motility. In this way, fascial disturbances can be overcome, allowing the body to recover its normal physiological functions. For this reason, we can say that the health of every person is reflected in large part in the fasciae. The Fasciae: Anatomy, Dysfunction and Treatment is the first book to organize the wealth of available information concerning fascial tissues from the fields of embryology, anatomy, histology, and pathology. It describes the roles and mechanisms of the fasciae, and details appropriate testing and treatment techniques. The book is richly illustrated with color and black and white drawings.
