The best book ever written about gerbils, "Gerbils: The Complete Guide to Gerbil Care" contains amazingly accurate information about gerbil care, breeding and health issues - so accurate that I would even recommend taking this book to your vet with you to help them better diagnose your gerbils' ailments. There is a chapter on fun things to do with your gerbils, including gerbil art projects and training gerbils, as well as sections on housing, feeding, taming, breeding, showing gerbils and coping with gerbil loss. Just about every aspect of owning gerbils is covered in this wonderfully written book, as told from the perspective of one of the top gerbil breeders in the US. Despite her expertise and attention to factual detail, Donna Anastasi's book is concise and fun to read, enhanced with beautiful photographs taken by Ellen Bellini. Wow
I have owned Hamsters for six years straight, and I love them and all rodents in general. I also adore reading. So naturally, I've read almost every rodent book out there. Most of them are satisfactory, but a little outdated. I may be getting Gerbils, so, seeing all of the good reviews fellow Amazonians gave this book, I decided to purchase it. That was a good desicion! This book is easy-to-read, without being simple. It presents everything you need to know about gerbils(in a professional manner that doesn't feel like the author is talking down to you), and more! It includes chapters about showing, breeding, gerbil crafts and playing with your gerbils(and that's just the extras! I have personally emailed the person who wrote this book. A Good Basic Book - But Stick With Donna Anastasi
First off, I've read MANY of Sue Fox's books, and I find absolutely no fault with her research or presentation. As a small animal vet, I give her opinions great weight. That being said, my issue is with TFH and other "pet care" books affiliated with the pet food and product industry... specifically, the placement of easily identified products in photographs, even if those products are not the best items for the featured pet.In two of the Animal Planet pet guides, for example, there are written sidebars or paragraphs "debunking" the issue of pine and cedar bedding. Fueled by the wood producers, these try to convince first time owners that there is no hard science proving that phenols from softwood shavings cause lung damage in small pets. This is patently false - see a paper written by a doctoral student here:http://www.ratfanclub.org/pine&cdr.htmlNo legitimate breeder or rescue will recommend softwood bedding - not only for the risk of lung...

Gerbil Book
I got this book from the library and I read part of it. I have two gerbils. Their names are Acorn and Daisy. I had read another book about gerbils that said that they sleep at night but this book said they like to stay up around midnight. This book is right. When my gerbils were in my room they ran on their wheels and kept me up at about that time. I liked a picture of gerbils in tubes in this book. It showed a gerbil jumping into a tube. I learned that you are supposed to let your gerbils run around in a room about three times a week. I hadn't been doing that. Now we let them loose in the bathroom sometimes and on the table in the basement. I also liked the pictures of different colors of gerbils. I didn't know there were black and white spotted gerbils until I read this.

Good temporary containment.
I use these balls about once a week for 15 minutes while I clean out the hamsters' cage. It's a great way to keep them temporarily contained. The hamsters are about 2 inches long and the ball is 7 inches, and it's a good enough size for them. The feces and urine go right through the vents, so be sure to leave this out on an area you can sweep and mop (i.e., not carpet). I also tape up the cover to make sure it doesn't accidentally fall off. Also, the children must be warned not to roll the hamsters around in them.

7" too small for rats, but 11" is Wonderful fun! Cheaply made
We were warned not to put rats in a rat ball because it could hurt their spine, after research we found that this is only a problem if the ball is not large enough.Our sweet rat "Princess" is full of energy and likes to run, and we feared losing her. She comes when called, however, if she climbs up inside the couch, we cannot reach her, and she will gorge herself on the crumbs that the vacuum cannot reach. She will not come while eating the crumbs and we feared eating this junk food would make her sick or worse.We got a large rat ball (size "Giant" about 11 inches in diameter). Princess is full grown but on the small side and this ball almost seemed too large for her, but turns out to be the perfect size.Princess LOVES her rat ball; she will beg to go into it! We keep it next to her cage, and when we pick her up, she tries to wiggle toward her ball. She is a smart rat and she has learned her way around our house. She rarely crashes, but she will slowly bump...

An Awesome Read for a Pocket Pet Lover
My daughter Caroline, age 11, offers this review: I treasured every word of "Obi, Gerbil on the Loose!". I, too, have a gerbil by the name of Obi-Wan-Kenobi, and I was amazed at the characteristic resemblance between Delaney's Obi and my Obi. Book Obi had some humanlike traits, but did not go as far as being able to speak to humans. Also, from the second I started reading "Obi", I felt as if I was traveling with Obi through the Armstrong's house from a gerbil's point of view all through her remarkable adventure. The characters were amazingly 3-dimensional, being neither entirely good nor entirely bad. I certainly hope there will be another book written about Obi so I can embark upon another adventure with her. I simply could not put this book down! "Obi, Gerbil on the Loose!" is definitely a must-read for kids (and adults) of all ages!

My gerbils don’t like their wheel so don’t be surprised if yours dont either. Pretty good list but one thing that is missing is vita-drops oasis for gerbils, it gives them missing nutrients that aren’t found in their food.
