The Runner of Guns here... Ok... I'm almost 40 year old so I remember the glory days of the Ghetto Blaster... Owned a few in my time but never one like this !!! I've been looking for an MP3 Ghetto Blaster for some time and now my world is complete... Cassette tapes are done, compact disk are a pain, even MP3 on compact disk is a pain... This is a true MP3 Ghetto Blaster that uses removable solid-state data storage... Stick a thumb drive or SD card in it that you just loaded up with MP3, WMA, WAV, etc files straight from your computer and BAM !!! You are jammin' 80's style !!! You can dock an "i" thing in the front but I care little for the fruit of Mr. Steve... Anyway, it does appear cheap and overly "plastic" when you first look at it, but, that is what 80's blasters looked like !! Fugly plastic music monsters !! The sound is good enough for the intended purpose... If you want a Bose system then stay away... This box is made to blast tunes and annoy parents not seduce snobby...

This will be one of the most noticeable and arguably best audio investments of your life, so stay tuned (no pun intended).This ghetto blaster will turn heads. It will get you noticed. In some cases, it will even make you the life of the party / focus of attention. In hindsight, this is most likely because not many people own a ghetto blaster (not mant at all, actually), so seeing someone with one, whether they're walking or longboarding by, is pretty awesome.I've had my Lasonic ghetto blaster for a few months now, and, believe it or not, it's an amazing conversation piece, and may have even earned me a friend or two. Great sound
This boombox has great sound, it can get very loud, as loud as you should ever need it. The only fault with mine was that the volume knob isn't very good. Sometimes turning it doesn't even change the volume; you need to turn it slowly. Also, iPhones and iPod touches must be entered horizontally in the boombox, which makes changing songs difficult since it is always in the album cover view.

Not bad
Sound quality:So so. It sounds like a mediocre box from the '80s ( although better than most things that are available today)..not bad, but nothing to write home about. It does not hold up to the better boxes of the past, but that shouldn't be surprising. The treble frequencies are reproduced clearly with little or no harshness, the same for the midrange. Bass response seems to roll off at about 100-120Hz.The good news is that it has separate bass and treble (-7 to +7 Db) controls, so your not limited to (often useless) pre-set eq settings.Radio:AM reception is so awful that I thought something was wrong with it. All I could pull in were the strongest local stations and not very well. After talking a look inside (I wasn't about to send it back over poor AM reception, and I have a background in electronics) I noticed one of the most minanal AM circuits I've ever seen, and a VERY small coil bar. Replacing the tiny ferrite bar brought reception up to less...

The boom box is fun!
I bought this for my son who requested it specifically. He is 17 yrs, old. He really seems to like it! Just found the slot for the i-pods to only fit some older i-pods so that was a bit disappointing.We can only use the plug in. We also had to re- glue the fake light and gaget stickers/plates back on day two of having it. He loves the sound quality and he and his friends have enjoyed it a lot! So, we are satisfied with this product. But, it could have been made a bit better in my opinion.

Amazing!
I actually ordered this from the iHome website, but regardless I decided to write a review since there aren't many on this, seeing as it's fairly new and I know some are wondering about the quality and if it is indeed worth purchasing or not.First off let me say that I love the look of the product, the retro boombox style looks great. The rubberized coating makes the surface smooth and gives it a nice matte tone. It's lightweight, and you have the option of using an AC adapter or batteries (6 D I believe, so you can carry it around- it is a boombox, after all). It comes with a remote (battery included), an arm strap for carrying, AC adapter, FM antenna, the unit itself and instructions/warranty information. Soooo hot
I never EVER buy anything impulsively but man when I first ran into that pink boombox at the store, I had to touch it, and once I felt its unusual rubbery texture, I had to ask for an audition.I docked my iphone in, turned it on and the EQ LEDs started dancing. WOWWWWW! I was not expecting such a good sound from such a hot looking little thing, well, especially for under 200 bucks!!! Let's be honest here, don't expect "audiophile sound" by any mean but as an iphone dock? It really sounds awesome! Add a little remote , an AC adapter and the option to use batteries... Yeap, I simply love it . The only setback is I'm now afraid my girlfriend will steal it from me (she's been drooling over it the entire evening)

Awesome Improved System
The newer version of this boombox is truly great. The sound is amazing and the actual quality of the boombox is much higher than the previous boombox without iphone capability that had pieces falling off of it. The previous boombox has stickers that provide the illusion of equalizer lines and other things such as the titles for the ports and things of that nature. The quality was so poor that it came out of the box with the stickers falling off. This machine is exactly the opposite and overall great. The only con is that as with the original boombox from the 80's it doesn't have all the knobs and setting changes to play with the sound and things but overall, great machine.

A significant Upgrade to the Sony S2
TermsS2 = Sony ZS-XN30 Multi-Codec S2 Sports CD/Tuner Boombox (White)H10 = Sony ZS-H10CP Heavy Duty CD Radio BoomboxBackground: I bought the H10 to replace a defunct S2. I use three S2s and one H10 daily (and simultaneously) at a swimming pool, so I compare them daily.My biggest surprise is that, contrary to what the specs imply, the H10 sounds twice as loud as the S2. Perhaps this is due in large part to the H10's significantly better base: there is noticeably more of it, and it is very clean (has low distortion). I play the S2 with the Mega Bass button on, yet the H10 bass is so pronounced and clean that I leave the its Mega Bass off. "Specs imply" means that the specifications state that the H10 = 2.3 watts per speaker vs 2.0 watts for the S2.The H10 is significantly easier to use than the S2: The S2's up-down Volume buttons have been replaced with a large dial, the S2's jog control whose operation baffled water aerobic...

A Hulk of a Boombox
A quick caveat before I review. As of 5/12/2006 the Sony site (and Sears, too) still says this boombox takes 'C' batteries. It doesn't, it takes 'D' size, though a quantity of 6 is correct. I can't see that Amazon has included battery info. one way or the other.This is truly an Industrial Strength boombox - extremely rugged. I bought one for my handicapped daughter, who needs almost constant music to keep her happy, but has been pretty rough on past boomboxes. This one ought to last.It is significantly larger than the average portable boombox, so pay attention to the dimensions and weight to see if it's a fit for you.The only weak spot is the antenna, which my daughter managed to break the first day. Be careful how you restore it to its telescoped slot. We can't find a replacement antenna yet.Also, it lists on the Sony site and at Sears for $129.99, so I don't know where this site got a list price of $179.99.

I searched high and low for a product like this and seriously, this was the only one that had it all ... plays regular and mp3 CDs, AM/FM radio, line-in for any external player from laptops to mp3 players, no useless cassette player to get in the way and most importantly, it has GREAT sound; plenty of volume and bass response. Yes, it's heavy duty. It is rugged enough to take along to the work site, keep in the garage, take camping, you name it; it has sealed compartments and speaker guards to protect from dust or hits; it has a sturdy handle built into a protective frame; it has a small enough footprint to sit on most standard shelves ... also, it has a smarter, simpler look that I appreciate; it doesn't look like some sci-fi robot or a work of abstract art ... it is surprisingly light since the power supply is contained with the AC adapter (some might find it a negative to have to lug around a heavier, bulky AC adapter, but it depends on your perspective).
