I'll give it 5 stars, but . . .
I chose this little box over the NBox and other comparable media players, mainly because it has a wider array of audio/video ports, and it pretty much splits the difference price-wise. I am using the HDMI port for my plasma screen, and the digital coaxial port for my receiver. I am beholden to Western Digital My Passport Essential USB drives, and I couldn't be happier with the results. The HD picture looks fantastic, and the booming 5.1 surround sound far exceeds what I could get out of my laptop. It browses reasonably fast through your files, folders, and sub-folders, and it offers continuous playback of your media. It played AVI, MPG, MP4, VOB, MKV, and pictures with no problems. The box is packed with composite cables and a short component video cable. It has two USB ports, and you can supposedly copy/paste/delete between the two, and apparently you can play a photo slideshow and music simultaneously, neither of which I have tried yet. However, it does have it's...

Five stars, No buts! - Read the full review.
I received my new Mplay-HD yesterday and have been using it pretty extensively, throwing a large variety of videos at it and exploring all the features. I can say without reservation that this is currently the best low cost HD media player available.I've been using digital media players for a few years now, starting with the earlier TVIX models in 2008, and I've owned other brands such as WD, Seagate, Asus, and most recently this Micca unit. The main draw for me to this unit is that it's one of first players to have the new Realtek 1055 chipset. This chipset was released in late 2010 and players using it started showing up in early 2011. The best thing about the 1055 is that it delivers the same video and audio decoding capabilities as the high end Realtek and Sigma Design chips, but they keep the cost down by not including network, SATA, USB3.0, and other features which users may or may not want. Essentially, if you want a well performing stand alone media player and you...

Great Device
This thing has played every file type that I have thrown at it. It's small and can be easily concealed, but like the pervious reviews, the remote needs to be pointed directly at the device. Setup is a breeze, just configure to widescreen (16:9) and set the tv resolution to 480p,720p,1080p etc.

Works Great! Great Price! Easy to Use!
Like the the title says the Diamond Multimedia Mini Wonder MP700 PlayerWorks Great and at the price (I ordered at the $32.99 price and also got the$20 mail-in rebate bringing the price down to a whopping $12.99 incl. shipping)how could anyone complain - as the other reviewers stated 'it mostly does what is stated that it's capable of... That is it plays many formats streamed to ANY television. I could see how this would be a nice feature for older flat panel wide-screen TV's but It seems many of the newer LED Flat panel TV's have this technology built in - they come with USB and Memory Card slots to allow playing of data files.Where this little unit really shines is for use with old-school analog tube TV's.With only an RCA plug for L/R and Video I'm able to watch (with very nice quality I might add) all the content on my little 500GB WD Passport portable USB drive (no additional power supply needed - the Mini Wonder provides all the power needed to run...

Does what it says
This product does what it says. For the size and the price - a good buy. Able to play recognized formats straight off external hard drive, or flash drives. Does not play MP4, most of my stuff .avi, so not a real issue. Only problem I can see is if you loose or break the remote the device is useless. Take good care of the remote.

... master of most
As in Jack of All Trades :)I want to begin by saying the 'I like' (but I don't yet fully 'love') WD's TV Live Hub and this earns it 4 (but not 5) stars. And I like it in spite of it lacking a few almost 'must have' features for a device in its class such as some storage redundancy (RAID-1 = disk mirroring) or at least a built-in backup utility or any significant security or, to a lesser extent (I'll explain) built-in Wi-Fi. And I like it even though bugs still exist such as the Hub's occasional failure to maintain/update its 'media library'. And I do like it even though the Hub's supported Web 'services' are few at this time - because some of the 'major' ones are there.___________________________Note: (9/9/2011 update):I am upgrading this to 5-stars because since the original writing of my review most of the bugs have been addressed and many important Web services and other features such as 'games' were added.Because of its...

Great product just read the online manual!
This is a fantastic product.Only two simple things need to be done after you have plugged everything in.Read the manual provided online. It is very informative and explains everything in detail.Download WD Discovery. Link for it is provided in the online manual. You can then map the hub as a hard drive and it'll function just like any other hard drive you might have used.Just drag any content you want into it and you are done.My dad who isn't technologically savvy has started using it as well which tells you a lot.It really is that simple to use.

good but be mindful of which router you use.
I bought this and am very happy with the "playing movies" off the internal harddrive part of it. The interface is good and pretty easy to get around. The whole box is amazingly small and quiet. The only issue I've had the last couple days is getting it to see the internet and my computer through the router...and I'm running a cable to the router-I'm not wireless.I could plug the WD straight into my modem and get netflix fine but when it went through my brand new netgear wpn824N-100NAS router, I couldnt get on or network with my computer. I've tried everything, read every troubleshooting forum on the web...but no joy. The router works for my computer...I get the internet on it just fine, but not on the Live Hub.Called WD today. after an hour of resetting router, resetting Live Hub, going through networking on my computer--all of which I'd tried already, he finally asked me what router I used. Then said it wasnt compatible with the Live Hub. I'm sort of questioning...

A really nice, compact player for a variety of media files
Customer Video Review Length:: 6:04 MinsAs a photographer and a sales trainer/consultant I often find myself in situations where I need to connect to a TV or monitor in order to show some media files to a client or a group. Usually I am prepared for this and have all of the equipment necessary for a professional presentation. However, sometimes an opportunity arises at a unexpected time or place. For me, that is what I will use this device for. I can also see many applications for home and family use.I thought that I would make this short video to show how the player works. One thing that really surprised me is how small it is and you can really see that in this video.Disclaimer: Although I was not paid for this review I did receive a sample for reviewing purposes.

Thoroughly impressed!
I have had this device for almost 2 weeks now and have been playing around with it A LOT! Here's my review that just adds to some of the information already given by previous reviewers on here.* First of all, this thing has great packaging... the box itself gives a good first impression and actually has a lot of useful information about specs and such right on there (somewhat of a rarity these days, so I thought I'd mention that).* I have to say one of the things that first struck me about this device was when I opened the box and REALLY realized just how much smaller it was than I imagined. I have to say I was getting a little skeptical when I saw the size, but that wore off pretty fast when I picked it up. This thing, though small feels REALLY sturdy and VERY well made. The casing feels like some kind of metal or metal alloy, it's black with a good finish. I imagined this thing going on my entertainment stand, but to be honest it would get so lost, so I...

H.264, MKV, 1080p fan
I love this product. Gone are the nights where I was the only person in the house capable of plugging the laptop to the HD TV with a 12ft miniDV<->HDMI cable and launching VLC -- dangling cords everywhere, draining batteries, and an inquisitive toddler. What sub $100, 1.5"x5" device can you get that sips electricity, is whisper quiet, boots instantaneously, auto-indexes 500GB of media files on FAT32, NTFS, HFS+ in < 2 minutes, and plays almost every file format including H.264, MKV, WMV9, FLAC, OGG, and DTS? None.Ages ago I used to rip divx and xvid movies onto a DVD and play them on a Philips DVD player. But now with huge HD file formats and oodles of cheap available external SATA USB storage I no longer have the patience to rip countless DVDs or encode movies such that I can play it on a BluRay player. There are other options I considered: configuring a MythTV box (no time), hacking an AppleTV with VLC, XBMC or Boxee (AppleTV chokes on...

Close to a perfect Media Center
UPDATE: After many tries on encoding MKV file, I found out why some MKV file downloaded did not works. This box only play with H.264 video codec and AC3/MP3 audio codec. H.264 lossless doesn't seem to work right, but regular normal H.264 works just fine. Hope this would help others out there. Instruction on how to make MKV file on www.videohelp.com shows to use a different kind of codec and it does not work with this WD box. If use Fairuse 2.9, make sure to choose the x264 codec output to work on this WD box.----------------------------------------------------------------------------I like to follow-up with you on several things here since I own both of these just like you, the IOMEGA screenplay (not the PRO version, they just came out with new one) and the WD TV HD.(1) Yes, WD only relies on remote, but its remote is durable, not like the Screenplay. But both problem can be solve by having it set up with a Universal remote control (I'm sure everyone using...

Beautiful and functional device with 2 major flaws
This is my 3rd media device, and by far the most capable. I bought it solely based on the HDMI output and MKV playback abilities, and am pleased with the performance so far. Given the price to features ratio, this is the best such device on the market, in my opinion, and one of very few devices I know that can play the robust (and relatively obscure) MKV format as well as being able to output to HDMI. My other 2 devices play AVI's and so does my PS3, so AVI playback was not important to me.Major pluses:1) HDMI output at 1080p2) Unicode support is flawless (for subtitles and filename displays). for subtitles, simply name them the same as your movie file and put in the same directory. e.g. Batman.mkv; Batman_ENG.srt; Batman_ESP.srt, etc.3) remembers where you left off in a movie so you don't have to start from beginning4) BEAUTIFUL and easy to use interface that is similar to PS3's cross-media bar5) solidly constructed remote control and overall...

Plays everything the others won't!
I got this media player elsewhere locally, before Amazon dropped their price. Anyway, the GUI is fine. It's easily navigable, not cluttered at all, presented in a beautiful package, and certainly easy to read. All pluses there. The first videos I attempted to play were 720p mkv files over wireless network (on a 1TB HDD connected to my computer in the basement via USB). After taking a few seconds to gather the first few pictures from the USB--> wireless connected storage device, the WDTV Live streamed the videos seamlessly! I even paused one for like 8 minutes while making dinner, and it resumed with no noticeable glitches, artifacts, or rendering/buffering. The second (and only other) file type I attempted to play was a 1080p TS file I had recorded from my cable box. This took a little bit longer between hitting play and seeing video on the screen, but time was minimal. I want to say no more than 4 or 5 seconds. Excellent Network File Streaming Device!
I recently decided to start a little weekend project of completely digitizing my 200+ home DVD collection. I wont get into any arguments over the legal ramifications of this type of project, but rest assured every digital movie in my collection is a straight rip of a physical DVD I own. That being said, I really needed a good option to actually "deliver" these movies to my HD TV in my living room. I have an Xbox 360 but that just didnt seem to be making the cut. So I started researching these fancy smart set-top boxes. At first I was convinced the Roku XS 2 was the way to go - but I started reading more and more about its lack of specific filetype support (i.e. MKV, M4V, AVI to name a few). That and it really didnt do network streaming/sharing well (if at all). I saw the WD TV Live HUB with 1TB harddrive for 199 and thought that was just a little too steep for my price range (the Roku is 99 afterall). Then I somehow accidentally found this device on Amazon.
