Maybe too true to life
What I got out of it was a cynical look at life and death, and how people react to them. My favorite, "Resume," is a man talking to God as his wife dies, but bargaining for his own life as per his weasley persona. Another is written completely in the format of an advice column, showcasing the empty lives of its readers. The most well rounded story is "The Jaws Of Life" about a guy trying to recapture lost youth through adultery. This collection, errantly marketed as hilarious, blows away any short story book I read in college. It throws you curves, doesn't end the way you expect. It ends the way the character may end in real life. By changing or not changing, by having something unexpected and unexplainable occur, such as a car accident or cancer. You get the feeling that these are real people instead of archetypes following thier character arc. Every writer should aspire to this level. Can't wait to read her new book.

a superb writer
I tracked down this book after I saw an interview with author David Sedaris where he recommended it. It was well worth the long struggle to find it. If you like writers like Sedaris and A. M. Homes, you will thoroughly enjoy this amazing book of wonderfully crafted short stories.

Product Description

In these wonderfully funny and poignant stories, Willett's eccentric, complex characters think and do the unconventional. Soft, euphonic women gradually grow old; weak, unhappy men confront love and their own mortality; and abominable children desperately try to grow up with grace. With a unique voice and dry humor, Willett gives us a new insight into human existence, showing us those specific moments in relationships when life suddenly becomes visible.

Critically acclaimed when it was first published in 1987, Jenny and the Jaws of Life is being brought back due to popular demand. It's a timeless collection filled with a certain freshness and wit that ring just as loudly today.

My Favorite Album of All Time
I know that's a bold statement, especially since we music fans only usually consent to narrowing it down to our top 10, but, if the proverbial gun were held to my head, I'd have to pick this one. And that's the way it's been since I first bought this on cassette (released by Slash Records here in the U.S.) way back in 1984. A few years ago, I was able to obtain this version on CD via a website which specialized in importing hard-to-find music from Australia and New Zealand into the U.S., but I am happy to see it re-released here so that it may potentially infect a wider audience. A (hopefully not too boring) note on discography: The proper Jaws of Life album begins with "42 Wheels" and ends with "Little Chalkie"; the last 4 songs were originally released on the Payload EP in 1982 (and also appeared on the original A&M Records release of their eponymous debut album, along with "Talking to a Stranger"). These are also excellent tracks, but are more in the vein of funky (albeit...

Your Hunt is over. Collect it now...
Coming of age in the 80's ususally meant that if you loved music, you most likely started out the decade by collecting cassettes. I just found this cassette--- a forgotten treasure amongst the hundreds I have had in storage. And now I'm finally buying the CD.Hunters and Collectors was an aquired taste at the time, and still is, but this album flat-out rocks. The music here stands outside of time, and sounds as though it could have been recorded (and released) yesterday. The intensity of it far outshines anything on current radio playlists, just as it did when it was released 18 years ago. Do yourself a favor and get this gritty album.Your hunt is over. Gnashing and tearing muscle from bone....
I hope the following superlatives don't sound trite. Over the years many ponder what is the best pop/rock album of all time, guided by the likes of Rolling Stone magazine and MTV, and usually names like the Beatles or The Rolling Stones are thrown about. After a relatively short life, my choice for greatest album of all time is the unknown yet brilliant 'The Jaws of Life' by Hunters and Collectors.Never before or since it's release have I heard music with such driven intensity and originality. The basslines are thumping, the guitars really crunch and the wall of sound is delivered with a `measured' frenzy somehow mixed with delicate hooks and melody. And the lyrics of Mark Seymour are just sublime - the man captures the heart and sweat of the hardened Australian existence, urban and regional, and does so with a crusty mannish realism mixed with surreal vision and warm humour. In essence the Australian ethos/identity is wonderfully captured in an album that oozes with...

B&D Alligator Lopper - Fun and Functional!
After hurricane winds knocked down my tree, a neighbor brought over her Electric B&D Alligator to help. It did such a great job in the short time she was there, I knew it was a tool to add to my collection! The only drawback was that, due to the storm damage, limbs were everywhere and repositioning/getting enough reach with the extension cord was a little difficult.Since purchasing the B&D 18-Volt Cordless Lawncare Center earlier this year, I have built up 5 interchangeable batteries and was SO EXCITED to be able to buy a CORDLESS version. I cut up the rest of my tree (excluding the trunk) with my new cordless alligator - some branches were just over four inches! Battery life was 40-50 mins depending on the size of the branches. The cordless version was a bit more expensive than the electric lopper. So if you don't already have several batteries from other tools, it might be better to save the $$ and go corded.Overall it was a great investment and...

Just ok
This item, Black & Decker NLP1800 Alligator Lopper 18-Volt Cordless Chain Saw, has lots of potential. It cuts the branches well, even fairly thick ones. The problems: 1) Battey life...easy fix, get a spare battery... 2) requires frequet oiling 3) This is the worst problem I see, but possible a deal break: the top chain guard can very easily get postioned were it rubs the chain, creating wear and eating a whole in the guard..Overall: I would say worth $75-99, but would not give over $100 for it again untill the above bugs are corrected.

B&D Alligator Lopper
It is great for pruning, especially in "overgrown" hedges, etc. The ability to cut between branches without damaging the branches on the back side of the chain is critical. It is nice to be able to just switch it on and off without having to restart an engine. It is extremely quick and quiet. Oiling is a minor problem.

Good for the price
Don't expect this skull to look beautiful like the professional models, but for a quarter of the cost it is still accurate. I am using this model to study in a pre-med biology class in college and it works fine. All of the small details present on real skulls are there, just a little rougher around the edges, plus some of the holes are not punched all the way through. The mandible is removable and inside the skull has the same anatomical details you would expect. This is great to study with at home without paying over $100 for the professional quality models.

Review for Art Students
My first impression upon seeing the skull was that it was very shiny. This itself would be ok, however the top of the skull did not fit on correctly. The proportions otherwise are correct though. It does not have great detail, but is useful for gaining an understanding of the basic proportions of a skull for the beginning art student. Those who want something a little more detailed though, would be better of paying a pit more for a nicer model.

Not appropriate for everything.
I bought this skull in hopes of using it for practicing drawing, but the seams between the plastic were so poorly aligned that I had to return it. Many of the pieces wiggle around and don't sit snugly. You may also need to trim some excess plastic off from the molding process, as the one I recieved did not look very clean-- particularly between the teeth. I find the removable teeth annoying just because they don't stay in very well, but they are properly formed and would be great for demonstration. I don't mean to just bash the product though; this skull would be great for a classroom where one was trying to give people the impression of what a skull is, how it functions and the volume inside the skull.
