Not the OC but a whole different view
Laguna Beach is a great show to watch while hanging out with your friends or just having some down time on a Saturday afternoon. It is mostly made up of fueds between friends and dramas that occur with regular teenagers around the world. I for one love this show and TiVo it every time it appears on television. I used to think it was just abut some stupid kids running around spending money but when I started to watch it more and more, I got hooked! I can't wait to see the next season! I would definatley recomend this show and would encourage you to buy the DVD set.

Product Description

LAGUNA BEACH: THE REAL ORANGE COUNTY -- It’s one of the wealthiest, most beautiful communities in the world and MTV has unlimited access to the tight-knit power clique of eight rich, beautiful teenagers that live there. Their lives intertwine in ways you won’t believe, until you drop in for a visit. Watch as these friends share experiences through parties, relationships, love triangles and small town injustices. This is where the angst and the tumultuous affairs are the stuff of prime time drama – except this is all REAL. Welcome to Paradise, otherwise known as Laguna Beach, California. Top to learn more

Branded as "The real Orange County," this tepid yet easily addictive MTV series follows a group of wealthy high schoolers from Laguna Beach, California. Their lives are almost too perfect to be real: good looks, houses by the beach, even close relationships with their parents. They shop, plan parties, and get brand-new cars wrapped in a bow for graduation (and you thought that only happened in commercials!). But it's a reality show packaged as a teen soap.

At the center of season 1 is the love triangle between good-girl narrator LC, her childhood friend Stephen, and his beautiful but cold girlfriend Kristin, who likes to mention at any chance possible how much she "hates" LC. Other highlights for the seniors include spring break in Cabo, birthday bashes, one character's embarrassing audition for a Broadway show, and the repetitive mantra of "Can you believe this is the last time we'll be together like this?"

One's envy of young rich kids who are just like you--but not--is certainly what Laguna Beach likes to tap into (you find out they even have weekly O.C. viewing parties!). Unfortunately, it's also what makes it so vanilla. Since there aren't producers auditioning the most colorful personalities to home-grow drama, you're left with pals so alike you get them confused. Not only that, their "conflicts"--limited to gossip and drunk confrontations--don't really make for great television, at least by the reality-TV standards we're used to. But kids who thrive on the gossip of their own friends will likely continue chatting about this show like it's their own high school.

DVD features include an MTV cribs-type tour of LC's massive mansion (still being built in season 1) and many deleted scenes, which include the technical glitch that got Morgan into BYU (see? It's not just money) and Trey's argument with a midget. --Ellen Kim Top to learn more

ah, Guilty Pleasure at its finest
This show is pretty much the definition of a guilty pleasure, and I'm guilty all right: half of the people I know mock me for watching this show and the other half have no idea I watch because I would die of shame if they found out. My sister constantly questions why I watch LB and I have fine-honed my reasons:-- I went to an overly academically geared high school, so never had the chance to gossip about the in-crowd hijinks of "hooking up" and drunken antics. I missed out on my prime gossip years!-- It's a chance to see how the other (wealthier) half live... and mock them.-- Anthropologists have determined that 60% of human communication involves talking about other people; watching "Laguna Beach" proves how human I am.-- It's a chance to sit back and watch attractive, overly wealthy and pampered teenagers make each other miserable by gossiping, back-stabbing and stealing each other's boyfriends and objects of affection. It's like the...

Good for the die hard fans.. but there's a problem...
Like many people, I was sucked into the Laguna bubble, and became a die hard fan of the series, so it only made sense that I buy this set. The packaging that MTV did is beautiful, the quality and sound is great, and all the extras are well worth watching. The only problem I have with this set, is that MTV made a bunch of music changes. Some songs that were used in the original broadcasting of the show have been replaced, and in my opinion, the changes stuck out like a sore thumb. If you watched all the reruns, and are enough of a fan to buy the set, I'm sure you'll notice them too. Personally, I can't stand when the original music of episode has been altered. But what really annoys me, is that MTV didn't even put a warning anywhere on the box. "Features brand new music," would have been a nice warning to those willing to fork out $30 for their set, but apparently they kept it a close guarded secret. At least with "Dawson's Creek," ( original music was also changed for the...

Laguna Beach, the MTV hit about real-life rich kids in the coastal Orange County town, is too real to be a soap opera and too fake to be a reality series--and therein lies the rub. At least if Laguna Beach were a scripted drama, you could buy the suspended disbelief that a crush would just happen to appear in front of you as you're saying, "I wonder what he thinks about me." Or if it were truly a reality series, you can forgive the repeated exclamations of "This is going to be soooo fun, I am soo excited, you guys!" But because producers pull one too many puppet strings to heighten drama and add exposition, the sudsy guilty pleasure can be hard to watch. After all, how many times in a week can two guys pause in the middle of skateboarding to discuss their feelings? (This is addressed in the post-show interviews, where cast members spill that they're ordered to alert producers when they're about to dump someone so they can film the action in time.) Nonetheless, season two builds in addictive nature courtesy of alpha female Kristin (Cavallari, who later wound up a tabloid staple), now the narrator. She's the spice to season one narrator LC's sugar, a Mean Girl without the moral lesson. (Ironically, home movies featured on the DVD show Kristin, age 2, dressed as a witch for Halloween.) She unabashedly breaks hearts, "hooks up" with her friends' crushes, misleads her hangdog ex Stephen, and bashes rival blondes. If Kristin had less sense, she'd actually be a perfect match for perennial cheater Jason, whose "hotness" remains inexplicable given his inability to ignore his hormones. Don't miss Jason's interview in the bonus features, in which he repeatedly uses the words "bad," "stupid," and "I wasn't thinking" when confronted about his many dalliances.

Aside from the theatrics, this gang encounters prom, spring break trips to Mexico, graduation gifts from Tiffany, and charity fashion shows. College and parents are non-entities; "the new girl" comes with a lavish mansion, backstabbing gossip, and a personal hairstylist who gives her Barbie mop-locks. But for fans who know drama all too well, the Laguna Beach crew represents high school in Fantasyland, where your friends just happen to be beautiful and rich. -Ellen A. Kim Top to learn more

I LOVE the Hills!!!
I love traveling with Lauren Conrad, Audrina Patridge, Heidi Montag and Whitney Port throughout the glamorous life that is Hollywood, CA. Ever since the Hills came out on DVD, I have been absolutely intrigued and enthralled whenever I watch the girls on this reality show. This show is packed with drama, emotions riding high from Lauren traveling to New York City, only to deliver a dress to Lisa Love, West Coast editor at Teen Vogue, to Heidi hating her new "dream job" at Bolthouse productions.... I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this show, and recommend it to ANYONE who wants to watch the glamorous life of California!!!!!

Product Description

Follow Lauren to LA as she attempts to balance a demanding internship at Teen Vogue and a full course load with a demanding nightlife and a full social calendar. But at least she won’t have to do it alone. Along the way she meets several friends who expose her to a different part of the city, each chasing their own dreams. The Hills tells the story of four young women on their own for the first time and the fun, laughter and drama that they all share. Top to learn more

Fans of Laguna Beach will love the first season of The Hills, which follows Laguna's Lauren Conrad as she attends fashion school in Los Angeles and works as an intern at Teen Vogue magazine. OK, so that's the premise for this quasi-reality MTV series. But in reality, the show is an excuse to watch pretty young people make out, break up, get back together, and break up some more. The show has more in common with a daytime drama than a documentary; none of the subjects worries too much about paying rent for their glamorous apartments or designer clothes. But when it comes to dating, the Geneva Convention could learn a thing or two about negotiating from these gals. Lauren fans may be dismayed to learn that Jason, the monosyllabic Lothario who cheated on her in the second season of Laguna Beach is back. And instead of going on dates with the thousands of young men who would love to have a pretty blonde on their arms (and get the opportunity to appear on TV to boot!), Lauren allows Jason to get back into her good graces--even though he hasn't matured since high school. Or figured out how to treat a woman. Or learned how to talk better. It's actually heartbreaking watching her struggle with a relationship that we can all see is doomed. Or is it?

The season finale ends with the kind of dilemma we all wish we could've faced when we were 19 or 20: spend the summer working in Paris or move into a beach house with your boyfriend and frolic on the beach for three months. Paris? Jason? Hmmmm. You'd think that'd be a no-brainer. Also on hand to offer support are Lauren's friends Heidi and Audrina. The cast always looks chic and freshly made up (even after getting out of bed) and the cameras somehow always manage to be in the right place to capture romantic moments (and drama). It's easy to make fun of this show because of the preposterous setup that this sun-kissed life is reality for a group of kids who don't seem to have to work that hard for their privileged lives. But therein lies the guilty pleasure. We know it's a fantasy created by MTV. And while we would kill for the rocking apartments, cars, and clothes, there is no way most of us would endure being publicly humiliated to get 15 minutes of fame. --Jae-Ha Kim Top to learn more

Better than Season 3 of 'LAGUNA BEACH'
Its kinda hard for me to admit that I watched LAGUNA BEACH and this premier season of THE HILLS, especially with all the jokes I make about the two series. But being the exact target age of both shows (20 years old), I feel into the original LAGUNA BEACH watching it as it aired durring the final stretch my senior year of High School so I have a small emotional connection to the show as the characters where going through the same things tha I was when it was on the air.Season's two and three of LAGUNA BEACH though where boarderline annoying and I found myself barely ever watching them. But THE HILLS is different, Lauren was always my favorite 'character' and it was pretty interesting to actually see her grew out of her teenage self and into a young woman - and all the fictionalization that came along with it...THE HILLS follows Lauren as she moves to Los Angeles (But I'm pretty sure its Santa Monica), and how life changes for her as she enrolls in Fashion...

No subsance but enjoyable for silliness
The Hills, like Laguna Beach, is definitely a guilty pleasure. I usually watch silly shows like this one when I'm in lab working on projects since they don't require a lot of concentration. Season 1 seems to stress on nightlife and boys, but seriously LA is more than just nightlife and boys. I suppose these kids are young, and their parents are rich. There's no point in them working hard because no one is depending on them.

I never told them that it wasn't the Starbucks by the school but the one on Laguna Beach---which, as you can see, was almost 2 hours away from my school. I wanted to buy one and try it when I got home but then I figured I'll buy one the next time we go there since I was kinda broke. So I had this Physics study sesh with a friend and we went to the Starbucks at Laguna Beach for a change of pace since we usually just go to the one near my school. And we just talk about it. And then we also chatted about school and question why we have certain subjects and what subjects would be nice to add like Psychology for middle school or something. Anyway we got to Laguna Beach and OMG that place is awesome. If they ask me stuff like what I want on it or if I want a combination of this and that, my mind just blanks out. xD I mean man that always happens to the both of us. We do a study session and we end up just talking and talking and talkinggg. xD I'll definitely ask permission the next time we go. I really like the place although I could do without the cars. lol When we got off she told me how she was so stressed about that one girl who kept looking at her like she wanted to say something. After talking we went to the beach and just sat there. xD I told them I was having a study sesh with my friend (and they know who she is so I guess my parents are used to it) at Starbucks. I don't really buy anything from Starbucks since I always mess up my order. And then my friend felt guilty that she didn't talk to her or say Hi and stuffs and she was just regretting it. xD haha I thought that was adorable who she got flustered over such a tiny thing. DD: But anyway, we took the bus and it was my first time on a bus too which I thought was pretty cool. My friend was kinda tired and she was on her phone a lot so I guess the awkward silence wasn't really that awkward.
