As a photographer and owner of both a Canon G10 and a full-frame DSLR camera, I found this book to be an excellent source of information for both formats. As always, Rick writes in a manner that is easy to understand and fun to read. If you are trying to determine if you need a full-frame DSLR or if a compact camera will do the trick, this book is definitely for you. It is also the perfect book to help DSLR owners see the advantages of owning a compact camera in addition to their DSLR. As Rick points out, the most important thing is not always how great a shot you get, but that you actually do get the shot. Bottom line: A well written, non-threatening overview into the world of photography beyond taking snapshots.What I liked:- Excellent advice clearly presented in digestible chunks.- Good organization. The photography section is broken into categories and then by specific topic. You can easily get back to a point with a quick scan of the table of contents. There are also over 20 tips aimed at Photoshop Elements.- Clear good vs. bad examples. Too many photography books show the "bad" shot so small that you can't clearly make out what's wrong. There are even books printed so badly that you can't make out what's right. This doesn't suffer either problem.- Rick used Photoshop Elements (PSE) as the "editor" when referring to digital editing. Good Guide to Saving Money
When I requested a review copy of Low Budget Shooting: Do It Yourself Solutions to Professional Photo Gear by German photographer and designer Cyrill Harnischmacher, I was hoping to see something useful. I was first taken aback by the thinness of the volume - 72 pages with a hardback cover and paper thickness that only seemed to emphasize the lack of wider content. And yet when I flipped through, I realized that the $19.95 price was something a photographer could recoup multiple times in a single project. Just learning to create a custom soft box out of maybe $10 or $20 worth of material - without needing much in the way of skills or tools - is a money saver. You can learn to pretty easily make reflectors of all sizes, diffusers for a hand-held flash unit, even a table with continuous background for shooting products. There seems to be a bias toward table-top and close-up work, but the techniques he suggests are actually a jumping-off point. For example, you could adapt the soft box...

The title says it all. I was very pleased by the quality and enormous variety of backgrounds. For a professional Studio and Event green screen venture. My only dilemma is there are so many for clients to choose from. I'll have to pare the selection down to fit each type shoot. If a larger than 8x10 backdrop is needed, then re-size in your editing software. You can also blur the busy backdrop to simulate shallow depth of field, thereby emphasizing the subject. I'm thinking of buying a yearly subscription for $30 per year to see what they come up with each year. The market and tastes of clients change.

Believe it or not, it IS worth it IF you use it!
Never thought we would spend this kind of money for a mixer/blender! But we did and love it!! Use it everyday for smoothies, salad dressings, frozen desserts etc etc. It is a workhorse and works as advertised. Saves a lot of time. We grate parmesan cheese and its perfect every time. Margaritas, fresh peanut butter..I could go on and on or maybe I have. Haha. Anyway, if in your budget, buy it.

The Rolls Royce of Blenders
As I also posted on the Williams-Sonoma website, I had no qualms about spending $600 on this appliance after throughly researching reviews and videos and discussing with food pros. Am using at least 3x a day - hot soups, frozen fruit treats, dips, and smoothies and lassis to die for. So easy to use - no need to peel or remove seeds from fruits or vegetables. The 64-oz container is lightweight and easy to pour from; rubber lid snaps in tightly - no leakeage - and removes easily. It's important, for maximum effectiveness, to always put your wet ingredients in before the solid - this will prevent the solids from gumming up in the blades. As clearly stated in the accompanying recipe book - place the ingredients "in the order listed." Also a breeze to clean, and such a handsome addition to the kitchen counter - next to my Cuisinart, which is quickly becoming jealous from disuse. Not surprising that this is the blender used on Iron Chef - I keep freeze-framing on the TV image to reinforce...

Vitamix? Yes!... This model? Maybe...
First of all, let me join the others in saying that this appliance can truly be life-changing and I should have purchased it years ago. If you are considering this blender to eat healthier by adding fruits, vegetables and other natural, nutritious foods to your daily diet then don't wait. In just couple of weeks I have learned the basics and use my Vitamix at least once daily. I've lost weight and feel better, and I eat out just for the convenience much less. The ingredients to make a smoothie and many other recipes keep well in the fridge and freezer and it is easy and economical to have a healthy meal at hand.However, this particular Vitamix may be over-kill for most. You pay around an extra $100 for the 3 presets over the 5200 model but they only add a small measure of convenience in my experience. The hot soup setting doesn't make the soup all that hot. Finally, great product images with little effort!
I've been selling on Ebay since 1998 and have tried just about every photo tent, light cube, paper background and everything in between to help me take great photos of my products, and I have ALWAYS been disappointed. I was a bit skeptical at first with MyStudio because the price seemed a bit high, but out of desperation I bit the bullet and bought one and I am so glad I did! I can honestly say that my MyStudio is possibly the single most important piece of photo equipment I own. It doesn't seem to matter which camera I use (I have an old Canon Powershot and also a Nikon D50), the photos I get are clean and crisp and really make my items pop.It really can be used by just about anyone and if you sell anything on Ebay or anywhere else online and take your own photos, you would be insane not to have a MyStudio. No-Brainer Essential Investment
I just got this kit and am VERY impressed by the quality of the product itself and the quality of the images I am able to produce with it! The kit comes packed very nicely and setup is a breeze. They have included everything but the camera in this kit to produce professional quality images. The two cardboard light reflectors seemed cheesy at first, but are actually quite effective. You'll realize the importance of them when you shoot a reflective object that you don't want to see yourself in! :)The first shoot I did was with my Fuji point-and-shoot camera. I wanted to see how well a true novice would do with this kit. The images looked good, but the background wasn't pure white. I played around with the white balance and shutter speed settings, but wasn't able to produce an image with a pure white background. The instructions are barely sufficient. The photos are (ironically) are not very clear, since they appear to be grainy B&W photocopies.
