A very funny show.
I have never understood why this show has not been more popular with viewers nor do I understand why it has never won any awards. It has funny characters and story lines, very talented actors and the writing and perfomances are superb. It just seems to hang in there after being moved all over the time slots and days that it is shown. I have all the seasons on DVD that are available and love the show. With all the junk now on broadcast television you would think the studios would appreciate a solid, funny comedy like this one. Highly recommended.

Most Undderrated Show on Television
I LOOOOVE this show! The characters, dialoque and situations are absolutely hysterical. I am so glad this DVD finally came out....CBS keeps switching the time slot around and there doesn't seem to be any advertising for when the show airs. I don't understand why the network doesn't do more to promote this comedy gem. My husband and I watched these DVDs all the way through three nights in a row. Patrick Warburton is the funniest man on television!!!! This show needs to start getting the love it deserves!!!!

Finally Season 5
Contains 26 episodes, 24 episodes aired as season 5 and two episodes from season 6 (Cheating and Scavenger Hunt which hasn't aired yet!). My understanding is that the 26 episodes were all shot at the same production period but only 24 were aired as season 5. The episodes are also in a slightly different order than aired. Packaging is good, looks like a normal DVD production run even though it is a DVD-R (Manufacture on Demand). Disappointed that it is presented in Stereo and not 5.1 like the other seasons. The aspect ratio is 1.78:1 even though at the time of this review Amazon lists it as 1.33:1.

Brilliant show ;-D
While Australia continues to be the last in the world with everything, I saw this fantastic show in the States a couple of months back and then because I loved it so much, I bought it on DVD in November and absolutely love it. I love almost anything that David Spade is in, but this is really great regardless.David Spades character (Russell) is like a 5th wheel to his friends Adam (Oliver Hudson) and Jennifer (Bianca Kajlich) who are an engaged couple and his other friends Jeff (Patrick Warburton) and Audrey (Megyn Price) who are a married couple. Jeff is hilarious with his deadpan humour and deep voice and it seems like Oliver Hudson got some comic skills from his mother Goldie Hawn because he's also great (and cute). There are some good special features here such as bloopers, set tour with Oliver Hudson, from table reading to taping and Rules Of Engagement dvd-rom content.I love this show so much that I can't wait for season 2 (although it's delayed because of the...

Funny show - so so DVD, but the show is funny!
Rules of Engagement's season 1 is a pretty funny season, albeit it's short at only 7 episodes. Luckily, it's been picked up for a second season and so far, has been a hoot to watch. If you've been married for many years, are in engaged or you're still swinging in the singles crowd, this show has it for everyone. Patrick Warburton and Megyn Price play the happily but haggard married couple Jeff and Audrey. Oliver Hudson and Bianca Kajlich play Adam and Jennifer, the newly engaged couple who don't know what they're in store for. Then, there is David Spade as Russell. A 40-something single person who still chases women like they're going out of style.Jeff is hilarious as the husband who loves his wife, but has become numb to many things after being married for 12-years. Adam proposed to Jennifer quickly without thinking about it and is now beginning to see where his "freedoms" that he had as a single man are slowly going away, yet he still loves Jennifer. Then...

Product Description

Samuel L. Jackson and Tommy Lee Jones are lifelong friends who served in Vietnam together. Twenty-eight years later, Jones, now a Marine lawyer, must defend Jackson in a court-martial case after he's accused of instructing his troops to fire on supposedly unarmed protesters outside the U.S. embassy in Yemen. Guy Pearce and Ben Kingsley also star in this tense military courtroom drama from director William Friedkin. 127 min. Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtracks: English Dolby Digital 5.1, Dolby Digital Surround, French Dolby Digital Surround; Subtitles: English; interviews; "making of" featurette; audio commentary by Friedkin. Completely Underrated
I enjoyed this movie a lot and I think that it is underrated. Samuel L. Jackson is Marine Colonel Terry Childers and Tommy Lee Jones is the lawyer who must defend him. The movie begins in some nameless jungle in Vietnam where Childers and Jones are soldiers fighting Charlie. A huge gun battle ensues and Jones's group is massacred. But Childers convinces the VC leader to call off the attack by killing his radio operator. Then we are taken to the present day, to San'aa, Yemen, where Childers is forced to get the ambassador out. His marines are being shot at, he thinks by the crowd, and so he orders his marines to open fire. They do, and so begins his difficult legal battle. It is not "A Few Good Men," Rob Reiner's spactacular military courtroom drama, but it is a good, interesting look at the military's justice system, and it keeps you riveted. It is not a really surprise ending, but it works. Jackson is absolutely amazing and Jones plays his part well as Childers's lawyer and...

MORE THAN JUST A COURTROOM DRAMA
Having served in the Marine Corps, I am a sucker for all things Marine. I am also a fan of both Tommy Lee Jones and Samuel L. Jackson, but then again who isnt? These two powerhouse performers team up for one good movie.Jackson plays Terry Childers who is a 30 year combat veteran colonel in the Marine Corps. Childers is sent into Yemen to rescue an Ambassador (Ben Kingsley) and his family. The mission gets quite hairy and terrorists and civilians both are caught in the firestorm to follow. The incident in seen as an embarassment at best and a political nightmare at worst by the folks in Washington and Childers is put on military trial for murder. He asks his old buddy Hayes Hodges (Jones) to defend him. Hodges also happens to owe Childers his life from events in Vietnam. The movie has the outcome you might expect and along the way we are introduced to a not so hidden conspiracy to frame Childers for the crime. What separates this usual plot from other films is the outstanding...

Good initial idea and incredible cast, poor scripting
Tommy Lee Jones and Samuel L. Jackson are excellent as usual in their roles: two old friends from Vietnam whose careers took different courses after a firefight that badly injured Jones. Jackson's Marines rescue a cowardly ambassador and his family from an embassy pelted with rocks, insults and the occasional sniper's bullet. In return for this service, the ambassador will testify that Jackson lost control and opened fire on a crowd full of unarmed civilians, because his superior at the Department of State thinks he should to save the American reputation in the Middle East. The basic story is good and the actors have amazing presence, but there are a number of amusing inconsistencies in the script, like:1) Dale Dye, as Samuel L. Jackson's commanding officer, asks him whether he wants private counsel or the base legal office to represent him (if you watch this in a theater full of military personnel, expect this line to be among the funniest in the film). This...

Rules rules
A great show, which the Amazon reviewer should take time to watch. Witty, fast paced, thoroughly entertaining. True the young couple are the least engaging but the show is more hit than miss, like Russell's sex life. It's a winner.

Classic
Rules of Engagement is one of those comedies that come along once every ten years. I cannot remember a single episode that didn't make me laugh out loud. Great casting for each caracter and excellent writing makes this a winner. Patrick Warburton has incredible comedic timing. Bianca Kajlich is scary hot as well. Watch and enjoy.

The misadventures of two couples and one destined-to-be-single loser in the sitcom Rules of Engagement carry into a second season featuring hit-and-miss urbane comedy. Patrick Warburton and Megyn Price remain the best thing about this show, playing the long-married Jeff and Audrey, an exemplary Mars & Venus pair who clearly love and care for one another beneath radically different perceptions of marital obligation and gender politics. Warburton, in a more refined version of his role as Elaine's obtuse boyfriend on Seinfeld, is very good as a character whose first impulse is to take the easy way out on every complex relationship issue, but usually comes around out of respect and love for his wife. Slightly less interesting are Adam (Oliver Hudson) and Jennifer (Bianca Kajlich), a younger couple navigating tricky waters of transition from the single life to wedded bliss. Meanwhile, Russell (David Spade) rounds things out as a would-be serial lover who rarely gets even mercy attention from the opposite sex. The notion that these five people form a tight social network doesn’t quite work (neither does the more fundamental relationship between the guys), but the show moves along so fast such details hardly matter. The balance between the characters, each of whom is at a unique stage of relationship evolution, is more compelling, though played entirely for laughs.

Highlights on Rules of Engagement: The Complete Second Season include "Flirting With Disaster," featuring parallel storylines about the impact of Jeff's snoring on Audrey's nighttime rest (the two sleep separately for a while, which brings out the frat boy in Jeff) while Adam copes with the temptations offered by a flirtatious waitress. The funny "Audrey's Sister" stars Heather Locklear as the titular sibling, whose relationship troubles encourage a desperate Russell to try get her in bed. "Guy Code" is an especially good show, in which Jeff feels honor-bound not to reveal the dark secrets he learns about an acquaintance whom Audrey assumes is a real gentleman. "Mr. Fix-It" is a novel storyline in which Adam and Jennifer decide to record themselves having sex, only to find it isn't as exciting in practice as in theory. "Optimal Male" concerns Jeff's obsession to lose a few pounds so he can qualify for cheaper life insurance, and the season-ending "Pimp My Bride" juggles stories about Adam and Jennifer's wedding date and Russell's decision to use his surprisingly sophisticated apartment as a love nest. --Tom Keogh Top to learn more

Product Description

The comedy and laughs continue in the latest season of Rules Of Engagement as these five friends make their own rules when it comes to relationships. Married, engaged and undecided - the gang find themselves in more outrageously compromising positions. Russell's (David Spade) unscrupulous sex-capades backfire - even with the help of his new assistant, Timmy (Adhir Kalyan). Jeff (Patrick Warburton) gets a double whammy when he finds out that his new friend Brad bats for the other team, and that his better-half Audrey (Megyn Price) might own an "adult toy!" And as their wedding day approaches, Jennifer (Bianca Kajlich) and Adam (Oliver Hudson) learn it takes two to tango...literally. Top to learn more

Regular viewers of Rules of Engagement will find that not a lot has changed between this third-season boxed set (with 13 episodes on two discs) and the two that preceded it. That's not a bad thing, as fans will know that they can still rely on the sitcom's crafty mix of amusing characters and their relationships, lively one-liners and repartee, and generally adult tone, while newcomers won't need to do any catching up. As before, the show centers on two couples, old-timers (relatively speaking) Jeff and Audrey (Patrick Warburton and Megyn Price) and their younger, still-engaged neighbors Adam and Jennifer (Oliver Hudson and Bianca Kajlich), along with their skirt-chasing bachelor pal, Russell (David Spade). The former pair, now married for 14 years, are still working at keeping their love alive; Jeff remains an unrepentant, macho slug, but Warburton's low-key charm and deadpan delivery and his character's tendency to ultimately do the right thing make him the cast's most consistently funny and appealing member. Adam and Jennifer are rather less humorous (nor are the actors on Warburton and Price's level), and as for Russell… let's just say that Spade's shtick is an acquired taste, and while many dig him, others will prefer to absorb his smug, wisecracking liar role in small doses.

New characters introduced this season include Orlando Jones as Brad, whom Jeff is surprised to find that he likes despite his being gay, and Timmy (Adhir Kalyan), nominally Russell's "assistant" but in reality his servant and all-around whipping boy. The latter is a great addition; in the "Family Style" episode, Russell's dating a therapist who refuses to take him on as a patient, so he sends Timmy in his stead, with hilarious results. Elsewhere, veteran actor Brian Dennehy guests as Jeff's father, whose chauvinism toward women in general and Audrey in particular makes his son look like the Dalai Lama, while other funny story lines involve Audrey pretending to be pregnant in order to get special treatment at work, Jeff injuring his back (and confronting his creeping senescence) playing softball, and Russell trying to induct a wide-eyed Amish visitor into his depraved lifestyle. With its constant sexual innuendo and gags about homosexuality, male braggadocio, and such, Rules of Engagement isn't exactly for intellectuals; nor is it likely to join All in the Family, M*A*S*H, Seinfeld, and others in the pantheon of immortal sitcoms. But that shouldn't stop this entertaining show from continuing to find a broad and loyal audience. --Sam Graham Top to learn more

Inconsistent!
I'm shocked at some of the other reivews. I realize that humor is subjective but come on, Season 3 was a mess and it wasn't until about mid-season 4 when they got back on track with streamlining the stories and humor once again. Spade was weak and for THIS show, Spade needs to be STRONG man, not strong like a real man which he... isn't quite... sort of a real boy!.. but really, they needed to focus on the Spade stuff that Spade does best and they went off in too many directions.

Rules of Engagement, what not to do in relationships!!
This sitcom is hilirius. Only here you can see the funny side of peoples inferiority complexes and inadequences without fear or repercussions. Not that I would condone any of it in real life. A great bunch of actors, who are perfectly placed. Love Patrick Warburton. I have heard his voice in so many movies, he does not fail to please. This is definitely worth the buy, and I already have all the previous seasons. Enjoy.

Product Description

Flirting, Fertility and "Free Free Nights." The gang is back and no topic is off-limits in the critically acclaimed fourth season of Rules Of Engagement. Married couple Audrey (Megyn Price) and Jeff (Patrick Warburton) relive their "single days" by competing with each other to see who has the raciest past. Meanwhile, fed up with the hassles of planning a big wedding, Adam (Oliver Hudson) and Jennifer (Bianca Kajlich) attempt to race to the alter. And is it possible that eternal bad boy Russell (David Spade) has (gulp) fallen in love...with Timmy's (Adhir Kalyan) fiance? "Funny, honest and over-the-top 'Rules of Engagement' still rules!" -Len Feldman, The National Enquirer. Top to learn more

Successful sitcoms don't exactly change from season to season--why mess with a winning formula?--but they do evolve. So it is with the fourth season of Rules of Engagement, offered here with all 13 episodes on two discs (there are no bonus features). Developments this time around include a larger role for Timmy (Adhir Kalyan), the forever-suffering assistant to the insufferable Russell Dunbar (David Spade); the efforts of Jeff and Audrey Bingham (Patrick Warburton and Megyn Price) to get pregnant, involving fertility drugs and a surrogate; and, after a very long engagement, the announcement of a wedding date for young couple Adam Rhodes (Oliver Hudson) and Jennifer Morgan (Bianca Kajlich). The former is especially welcome; bits like the scene in "Flirting" in which Russell dispatches Timmy to find the cell phone he left at the home of his latest one-night stand (who turns out to be a member of a bible study group) are always good for a laugh. But the show's main attraction remains the relationship between Jeff and Audrey, now in their 15th year of marriage and still sorting through various issues (keeping their sex life fresh, Jeff's realization that he once dated a contestant on a reality dance show, and communication in general) in a manner that's both amusing and realistic enough to be convincing. Warburton's deadpan, wisecracking Jeff may be a bit of a Neanderthal--things like texting, video games, and couples therapy ("Why deal with stuff when you can just push it down inside and go on with your life?") remain well beyond his grasp--but he's not a villain, and in the end he almost always does the right thing. Spade's Russell is another story. It's hard to love a glib, smarmy manipulator who shamelessly uses women and treats his assistant like dirt, but he's not irredeemable. Indeed, Russell shows some unexpected humanity and vulnerability in a two-episode story arc involving the beautiful young woman whom Timmy's family has determined he is to marry; Russell also gets some comeuppance in "Free Free Time," when he and Timmy attend a party celebrating the launch of a new video game designed by a former assistant… and featuring Russell as the game's hapless gnome victim. --Sam Graham Top to learn more
