cut and cuddly
I agree with other reviewers, not much to complain about for a customizable toy for under $20.00.PROS:1) One of the songs Scout sings is really super cute. It's the one that incorporates your child's favorites. When I sing along with Scout my son giggles, it's so darn adorable.2) I have a glowworm that plays nighttime music for like 15 seconds, not long enough. Scout plays up to 10 minutes - GREAT FEATURE!3) Scout is very soft and huggable.4) When my son recognizes his name I'm sure he'll appreciate it more, but for now, it's just, well, cool to hear his name come from a toy. Gotta love technology.CONS:1) You have to choose a favorite animal, color and food during set up. He's six months old - I don't think he has favorites at this point, and if he did, how am I supposed to know what they are?....so I just put in any old thing for now. When I want to change them, I have to plug Scout in and download new...

Soft Material with Bright Colors and Pleasing Voice
My Pal Scout, with its plush fabric and colorful puppy design, is appealing to children. The voice of Scout, a playful and upbeat young boy's, is fun and engaging for growing minds. Infants are also attracted to the name tag that lights up when Scout speaks or plays music. The name tag is made of durable plastic, and the new model features paws with embroidered symbols instead of decals so there are no removable pieces on the toy's exterior.

Your child can chew on this sturdy toy's ears or toss it around. My Pal Scout is light enough for even the youngest child to hold and carry. The handy Velcro closure keeps the battery compartment, USB port, and power/volume switch securely inside the toy. The switch has three settings: normal volume, quiet volume, and master off. In the "master off" mode, Scout will not operate when the paws are pressed, so only parents will be able to turn the toy back on. My Pal Scout's speakers are also inside the toy and provide balanced sound.

Advice for parents: when My Pal Scout starts to sound distorted, parents will need a screwdriver to open the battery compartment and change the 3 "AAA" batteries.

Music, Words, and Lullabies
Each paw on My Pal Scout is embroidered with a different symbol that, when pressed, turns on a special feature. The right arm paw with a ball symbol provides snappy sentences designed to help your child learn different emotions, colors, and words. The left arm paw features music notes; when pressed you hear a 15-second, upbeat song. The songs rotate randomly and include seven vocal songs to teach skills and three fun instrumental tunes.

Younger infants will be attracted to the melodies, while older toddlers can sing along. The right foot has a stars/moon symbol for five different selections of soothing music for naps or bedtime. Press it once for two minutes of music, or press it twice for five minutes of songs. If your child wants a little extra time with My Pal Scout before falling asleep, you can press the paw three times to hear ten minutes of music.

Parents can use the songs that come pre-loaded on My Pal Scout or change the songs by connecting to the LeapFrog Connect application. It's easy to turn off My Pal Scout by simply pressing the left foot's on/off switch; push any of the other paws to resume play mode.

Personalize for Your Child
A special feature of My Pal Scout is the ability to customize your child's experience. The instruction booklet will guide you through the easy process to connect My Pal Scout to a computer with the USB cord and download the LeapFrog Connect application. All it takes is 25 megabytes of free space on your computer and about 15 minutes to personalize the toy with your child's preferences. You'll be able to search for your child's name among a database of thousands. When selected, My Pal Scout will use your child's name in phrases such as "I love you" and incorporate his/her name into songs.

The application also allows you to choose your child's favorite color, animal, and food to personalize Scout's phrases to your child's favorite things. There's a resource section for printing activity sheets that your toddler will enjoy. Also, you can switch up the songs and lullabies so they're constantly fresh and different. The database is updated regularly with new songs.

The only drawback: if your child has a very uncommon name, there's a slim chance that it will not be in the LeapFrog database. However, you can choose one of many nicknames that you may call your child, such as "Munchkin" or "Peanut."

Lots of Potential with Online Customization
My year old son got this for his birthday and although he loves it and it is a neat toy, it really could have been technically executed a little better. I am hoping they send out updates via the USB cord to make his speech a little bit smoother and that they enhance the variety of "elevator" music availableThe USB cable that comes with Scout is incredibly short and I would recommend a second mini USB cable if you do not already have one for another computer peripheral. The customization process was straight forward and we had him done quickly. My only complaint is that you have to create a user account and the Internet is required but that's a minor compliant since Scout ships able to be interactive without being customized. Additionally, Scout has volume control on his battery box and is not obnoxiously loud even on his highest volumeScout is very, very soft and even with the battery box in his trunk, the puppy's body is soft and cuddly. My son spends a lot of...

3 year old loves it
I have a three year old son who just loves this puppy. We programed the puppy and my son lights up every time he hears his name. He even answers the puppy when he talks. Puppy (that is what my son calls him) will ask Brenden if he wants to play and my son says "yes", when puppy says Hi Brenden my son will say "hi". Just love it, puppy goes every where with him. Since my son has a not very popular name, this toy is awesome in saying his name. Even though the toy is rated for age 6 months to 36 months, my son is almmost 39 months old and loves this toy. Great Price too!The usb cord is short but not a problem with plugging into the laptop. Since it is only used to program the puppy, it's not a big problem.I would like to hear more songs with words rather then just a beat. The do spell out the child's name in a song and would be better if they repeated the name at the end of it, but my son still loves it. The puppy says snuggle a lot and would be better if...

Adorable, awesome lullaby puppy!
My daughter has the larger "Violet" Leap Frog toy and I purchased this cute mini version (I have the purple violet one... only difference is the color) for a long car trip. She LOVES this and it's her new "nighttime" toy. The little moon lights up. It has three buttons - off, a "short" little song such as ("Naptime's here, my eyes, they close...") and then either 10 or 20 minutes of lullabies or nighttime music. The little "Blankie" is removable/washable and threads through the moon to stay put. My daughter is 10 months old. She puts the blanket up to her face and uses it to soothe herself to sleep. Highly recommend! (FYI - you cannot customize your child's name like the bigger Violet/Scout).

saved our sanity in the car
this doll enables us to drive for up to twenty minutes without my four month screaming. she hates the car. she has hated all other cars, the three types of carseats that we have used, having people ride in the back, and every other type of distraction. i put this in with her and her screams of outrage turned into song. now she sings with the puppy on every trip (that last less than 20 minutes).thank you whoever created this. thank you from the bottom of my heart.

A New Favorite
My son got this for his first birthday and we all love it! He has the bigger Scout so was excited to see a familiar face when he opened his gift and pulled out this adorable mini Scout. It plays music, the moon lights up, and the blanket is removable and washable. I would recommend it to everyone and it will be a new favorite thing to give at baby showers. Too cute!!

The BEST Toy For A One Year Old!
My daughter got this toy for her first birthday and she hasn't slept without it since! Violet sings her bedtime music and says "x minutes of bedtime music! Snuggle up _name_" It is too cute. In the morning my daughter will play with Violet for around 30 minutes before she wants out of her crib. She is in love with this toy. It's been such a hit in our house that we are getting one for each of my nieces aged 1 year and 2 years old. It was very easy to download my child's name onto Violet. It took less than 20 minutes.

A Boook to Grow!
We decided on this book over the other versions (Fisher Price & VTech) because of it's simplisty & it didn't come with "number & letters" lessons. We have all those toys we could ever need! We love that this book! It reads a story or sings a song about a night time routine. It also goes with the Tag Jr. Buddy Pal reader when they are ready! Makes me so happy!

Could have been better...
There were so many great reviews about this book that I was sure I was going to like it. So I bought 2, one for my 18 month old niece for Christmas (the farm book) and the other (Good Night Scout) for my 8 month old daughter. I excitedly tried each, but was disappointed right away. There are only 3 pages! I was shocked. As soon as the story began, it ended. I understand that this is meant for young babies and toddlers, but even my 8 month old has a longer attention span than that. She loves helping mommy turn pages and while the book is very durable, at just 3 pages long, it doesn't give her much opportunity. Now the book does tell you that you can push a button to hear more of the Scout story, but without the words in front of you, it fails to ultimately provide one of the important aspects of a storybook, which is sight word recognition.I also noticed that with other distractions or sounds nearby, the voice from the machine did not capture my little ones...

My newborn (and now 10-month-old) loves this book
My husband and I are very interested in introducing our newborn to a love of reading from a very early age. Although this book is recommended for children who are 6 months or older, our 2-month-old loves it. We enjoy flipping through the pages with her, and there are so many different tracks that accompany each page. She particularly likes the tracks with the animal sounds (dog barking) and also the singing tracks. As she gets older, she'll be more interested in following the words on the page. For now, though, she's just learning that books are fun.Edited to add: Our baby is now 10 months old, and she still loves this book. There is a button on the book that, when pressed, will play a different track for the page. Sometimes it's a song or a description of the picture on the page. Our daughter has discovered how to use this button, and she presses it over and over to hear all the words, songs, and sounds for each page. This is a fun and interactive toy that has...

A great story!
This is the first and best of the "Scout" series, the books by Piet Prins that tell the story of the courageous German Shepherd and the boys he leads. This book introduces Scout during the eve of World War II in Holland, explains how he was trained, and demonstrates his loyalty toward his master. Although encompassing a series of adventures, the book maintains a common theme about life in Holland during World War II. All readers will enjoy the spirited confrontation between the Germans and the Dutch boys. Written for children, the book is still a delight for adults to read. The writing is excellent and forward moving, but easy enough to be enjoyed by adolescents (I first read it while in the 4th grade and understood it fine).

A great story!
This was an exciting story of a boy and his German Shepherd dog in the time of Word War II. I enjoyed it extremely when I read it a few years ago, when I was about 12 or 13 years old, and my brothers liked it too.

A 2007 summer reading list mini review.I was at a home school convention last month, and perused the vendor hall with my wife. Like many home school parents, we purchase most of our curriculum needs at the convention vendor hall because there is a great deal of selection assembled in one place. Most vendors want to get their product catalogues out to the attendees but with such a variety of vendors, it's difficult to find a way to make their product line stick out. One vendor had a novel approach, literally. They handed this book out to the passers by. Inside the book was the publisher's product catalogue.I have been reading the book to my children and they have been enthralled by the adventures of a boy, Tom and his dog, Scout, in the Netherlands prior to and encompassing WWII. In the course of the book, Scout and his master foil a robbery ring, save a British paratrooper trapped behind enemy lines, keep a Jewish girl away from German authorities, and...

In 1986, Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. sold the Wigwam resort and some land, including Scout Park, to Suncor Development Co. City officials say Suncor intended to give the park to the city, but Suncor sold the Wigwam and Scout Park to Kabuto... While the city was still trying to reach an agreement with Kabuto to buy the park, Kabuto sold Scout Park in 2011 to Las Vegas-based Dragon and Crane for $250,000. The mayor said that in addition to Scout Park, the city must own the pathways around the park. Despite three other parks being donated to the city, Scout Park was not. 6-acre Scout Park, in a neighborhood near downtown, was used for one of the city's largest arts festivals. For the past two years, Litchfield Park has spent thousands of dollars maintaining a park in the middle of the city that it can't buy and that is deteriorating. The city spent more than $37,000 on park maintenance, repair, water, electricity and staff time from March 24, 2010, to August 2011, keeping the park maintained for the Native American Arts Festival, which eventually moved to another location. "We have a whole system of pathways and those pathways are critical to Litchfield Park and to the whole ambience of Litchfield Park," he said. "As strange as it seems, it is a park that is used by the public, but it really is private property, and apparently it always has been private property," Litchfield Park Mayor Thomas Schoaf said. Kabuto Arizona Properties, which owned the Wigwam and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2009, verbally promised the park to the city but reneged, City Manager Darryl Crossman said.
