Must read for all animal lovers
Serval Son is the heartwarming true story of Kristine and her serval cat, Deaken. Kristine's dedication and commitment to Deaken truly shows how difficult it is to adopt a pet like this. It's definitely a cautionary tale. As I turned the pages, I found myself worrying for both Kristine and Deaken. But despite and hardships she faced, Kristine's honestly about the experience and her love for her serval son shine through and make this book hard to put down. I strongly urge anyone thinking about adopting a wild animal to read this book. Kristine's honest portrayal of her relationship with Deaken will give you a clear picture of what you will be getting into. And like the book states, "You are responsible for all that you tame." But even for those who don't have any inclination to adopt a wild animal, this story speaks to the animal lover in all of us.

Outstanding Serval Momma!
This is one of the best animal books I can recall. As one who has raised an African lion for fifteen years and cared for many wild felines in captivity, I know the challenges of giving them proper care and love. I witnessed Kristine Smith andDeaken work together as Serval and Mom. This story captures those intimate lessons taught between wild cat and human. The moments they share encompasses deep, personal devotion, and expresses demanding responsibility. You will lovethis ever-so-true story.Edward Eugene Smith

Love and Courage
As an animal lover myself, I was captivated by Kris Smith's unusual story of her connection and devotion to domestic and wild creatures. I loved this book for its honest and compassionate portrayal of a young woman's courage to rescue a serval cat, experience the trauma of providing for his needs, and her unending patience in training and bonding so thoroughly with Deaken. Not wanting to put this book down, I read on and on about the multiple problems that had to be solved daily in order to keep Deaken healthy and safe. The author truly demonstrated a deep love and respect for her serval "son."
