Tired of tents that promise a quick setup, but still have you puzzling over the shock-corded poles 10 minutes in? Turn to the Coleman eight-person Instant Tent, which assembles and collapses in one minute or less.

The Coleman Instant Tent sets up and collapses in 1 minute or less.
The secret to the tent's seamless setup is the pole system, which comes pre-attached to the tent. As a result, assembly couldn't be easier: just unfold the tent, spread it out, extend the poles, click them together, and lock them into place. Before you know it, you'll have a full two-room tent that stands 14 by 10 feet, with a center height of 6 feet 5 inches.

Despite the tent's versatility, it's still as strong and weatherproof as ever, with Coleman's exclusive WeatherTec system helping protect you from inclement weather and nasty storms. WeatherTec tents are built with a coated polyester fabric combined with anti-wicking thread, webbing, and zippers, all designed to keep you dry when the rain comes down. The tent's welded waterproof floor and inverted floor seams, meanwhile, dramatically increase the water resistance by hiding the needle holes inside the tent and away from the elements. And campers will love the strong, wind-responsive frame, which includes redesigned poles and guy-out triangles that anchor the tents and increase performance. In fact, Coleman is so confident in its WeatherTec system that it exposes its WeatherTec tents to a rain room that simulates nasty downpours, and to a wind machine capable of blowing hurricane force gusts. The results? Even after the tests, Coleman guarantees its WeatherTec tents will keep you dry.

The tent's exterior is tough and long-lasting, with heavy-duty 150D construction that's twice as thick as Coleman's standard tent fabric. When combined with the fully taped rain fly seams, the tent can even keep you dry without requiring a separate rain fly. The tent also offers ample room for sleeping or hanging out. Campers have their choice of sleeping in one large room with enough space for eight people, or dropping down the divider and turning the tent into a two-room palace. And hot nights will seem far more refreshing thanks to the two doors and seven windows, which provide terrific ventilation and 360-degree views. Other features include vertical walls that make it easy to stand and move about the tent, an interior gear pocket, reverse angle windows, and easy-to-follow instructions sewn into the durable carrying bag. The tent carries a limited one-year warranty.

The tent boasts a roomy interior with sleeping space for up to 8 people.

About Coleman
More than 100 years ago, a young man with an entrepreneurial spirit and a better idea began manufacturing lanterns in Wichita, Kansas. His name was W.C. Coleman, and the company he founded would change life in America. A man plagued with such poor vision he sometimes had to ask classmates to read aloud to him, Coleman saw a brilliant light in 1900 in a drugstore window that stopped him in his tracks. He inquired about the light inside and discovered he was able to read even the small print on a medicine bottle by the illumination. The lamps had mantles, not wicks, and were fueled by gasoline under pressure instead of coal oil. Soon afterward, Coleman started a lighting service that offered a "no light, no pay" clause--a big step forward for merchants who were burned by inferior products that rarely worked--and drew substantial interest from businesses that wanted to keep their lights on after dark.

In the ensuing years, Coleman expanded its product line well beyond lanterns. The company's current catalog is thick with products that make spending time outdoors a pleasure. There are coolers that keep food and drinks cold for days on end, comfortable airbeds that won't deflate during the night, a complete line of LED lights that last for years, powerful portable grills that cook with an authentic open-grill flame, and much, much more. Coleman has truly fashioned much of our outdoor camping experience, and expects to do so for generations to come.

Great tent, would be worth 5 stars with one minor modification you can make yourself
We got this tent this spring to replace an OLD Coleman external frame tent that used to leak on us like a seive, even when all we had was a heavy dew. Anyway, this tent has performed like a champ for the camping we did this summer.First of all, the plusses...and there are plenty:1) This tent is EASY to set up. The external frame and tent never come apart, so you don't have a chance to lose anything. I have set the tent up on my own, but, frankly, it's easier to set up when you have the help of one other person.2) The set up goes like this...after you have the tent out of its bag you reverse the bend of the corners of the external fram so the poles extend out and down rather than down and up (the way they are stored). Next, extend the four telescoping poles that go from the center of the tent to the four corners until they snap into position at their maximum extension. After you have done that you extend and vertical poles (I recommend doing the...

Great tent for the price
We just returned from our 1st camping trip with this tent. We usually camp once a year, for 4 nights/5 days, at a campground. Our family consists of my husband & I and our 3 kids, aged 13, 14 & 17. Our must-haves in a tent when we were looking were a room divider and a non D-shaped door (D-shaped are too vulnerable to zipper blow-outs with lots of not so gentle use...). We bought this tent based on those requirements, the dimensions & # accomodated, the ease of set up & reviews. Our two cents:PROS1) this tent definitely is easy to set up. My husband & his mom (I'm 8 1/2 months pregnant) set up the tent straight out of the bag for the 1st time in about 15 minutes. I read the directions but it wasn't even really necessary, it was that simple.2) take down was just as easy.3) plenty of room for our family of five. It would be 8 man as long as everyone was very comfortable with each other! It fit our family on 2 queen and 1 twin...

IF YOUR BIG AND STRONG, YOU WILL LOVE IT
This is a great tent! Do yourself a favor and instead of taking it out of the box and trying to beat the 1 minute time for assembly, read the directions and familerize yourself with the proper way to put it up and take it down. After 1 or 2 times you will be setting up in about a minute. I am 6'3' so I can easily lift and reach all the moving parts. It is a heavy tent (45lb) and its about 4 feet when in its carry bag. 45lbs may not sound like a lot but when it is stretched 4 feet accross it can feel more like 100 lbs. My wife has a hard time lifting and manuvering it by herself. Keep this in mind if you are short and not very strong. That being said Coleman does clearly state that set up is a 2 person job. I suggest that even carrying it is a 2 person job if you are small. Taking it down is a slower process but still very easy and I love not having to seperate any parts to do it. However since it is all one piece you will definently want to put a tarp under it to keep...

Decent Tent
I am 6.2 and 220 lbs. I had to sleep diagonal in this tent. I should have checked the dimensions before I bought it. It is a 2 child tent not a 2 person tent lol. It is small and light when folded up and the tent itself is the bag for the stakes/tent poles. It is a great hiking tent and I am happy with it. For 20 bux when it breaks I will get a different one, but I am satisfied for now.The rain fly is very small and I suggest getting a tarp or large bags to actually keep the rain out. The outer tent is NOT water proof so you would have to cover the entire tent if you want to keep the rain out. That is why I give this 4 stars.

Good tent for the price, but too small for an average sized adult
I bought it thinking, hey I'm 5'11" I can sleep in 6 foot, especially diagonally, but my sleeping pad which is 6 foot wouldn't even fit in it (diagonally even) and even laying in it diagonally without the pad my head was touching a wall and my feet were poking up at the other walls, I suppose if you're about 5'9" or shorter and are willing to sleep either in the fetal position or diagonally this is a great tent. I mean I wish I could make it work, it's built well, it just is too small for me. However IF you are under 5'9" and are looking for a great tent at a great price, you've found it, this tent is PERFECT for you.

Roomy, comfortable tent!
Bought this tent for a two-week camping trip to Canada for two adults and two large dogs. We put a queen-size air mattress in one end of the tent and used the other side for luggage, dressing, storing chairs, etc. Dogs slept in the middle. Very comfortable, very good ventilation. Had plenty of room and privacy. Followed the directions and it was easy to set up. Door is fantastic - so much better than regular zip doors. It rained four days of our trip -- big downpours and very windy. As long as objects did not push up against the inside walls of the tent, then things stayed dry. This was the best purchase we made all summer and I can't wait to take it out next year!

Excellent design, bone dry, plenty of room, what else?
All I can say is "Wow"!Cheaper than most family tents, but actually keeps the rain out. I'm 30 minutes north of Seattle. Just unpacked and put up the tent this morning as soon as it arrived during an hour no rain break, then it started pooring. Eight hours of rain and it's still bone dry inside out in my backyard. I can't believe a 450mm shell/tent can do that.More than enough room for our whole family, me, wife, 13yr and 1yr old daughters. Two big foam beds and a play pen to boot. I searched reviews all over the net trying to find a decent family tent and hoped the reviews I read about his one were all true, and I am happy to say they are. Coleman F-N rox.The rain fly that covers the outside of the door is part of the whole rain fly (all one piece), there is actually room for three chairs to stay dry under it (picture misleads that it is smaller). I was just out there smoking a cig thinking, America still has a few great companies left that mean...

great roomy tent
This tent is large - but not too large... I have set it up in my yard to check it out and try it out. You'll need a campsite big enough to hold it - like it may not fit on an old school standard size 'tent pad', but it's not obnoxiously enormous at all... I wanted something new after my recent camping trip in my old walmart tent ended up with us in puddles. I saw 3 or 4 people in the campground with this tent and really liked it. I wish it had a room divider, but that's the only thing it's lacking. It's VERY easy to put up. I did it all by myself in about 15 minutes, the first time. I took it down by myself in about 5 minutes - and my first attempt at rolling it up, it fit perfectly back in the bag. I love the multiple power ports. Don't really understand the rear cooler access - I probably wont use it for that purpose, but it's nice to have some access ports for whatever reason you might wanna use it for! I love that it has windows even with the rainfly - that's a rare feature and I...

Quick & Easy
Who likes complicated and confusing? When I go camping, the "setting up & taking down" of my tent is the part that sucks. Really sucks. This tent is amazing. The day it showed up, I took it out of the box and set it up (just me - no one helping) in under a minute (not counting the stakes)!! You just unfold it, extend the legs, and walk in. How awesome is that?Don't believe me? Check Youtube. Type in "Instant Tent", look for the one with a girl in a bright yellow KOA shirt. That's the video that sold me on this tent. It has LOTS of ventilation. the 2 sides have a large window, the back has a HUGE window. The front has a window in the door, and a window next to the door. Did I mention there are two roof vents? Yup. The roof vents have zippers on them, and a rigid "prop" thing. There's velcro on the top flap, on the top of the prop, and on the bottom of the prop (the bottom of the prop is sewn to the tent as well). You can open the roof vents from...

so easy, but not perfect
We just returned from camping in this tent. First time out of the box I think we had the thing set up in under two minutes. It could easily be done in 60 seconds or less next time. It reminds me of setting up our graco pack and play. I LOVED the way it set up! I was really surprised that it comes down just as easy. Fitting it back in the original bag took a couple minutes, but not any more than other tents we've had. However, I was surprised by a few things left off. There are only two little pockets inside the tent on the side walls. I expected to find a pocket in the roof too. So we had to crawl over each other if you wanted car keys early in the morning, etc. There were only two small roof vents. If you camp in summer I think this tent would get hot. In my opinion the biggest mistake was there is no way to tie the windows open. THe are made so you can kind of tuck them in themselves, but that didn't work even in our light breeze. We tried sleeping with the windows...

Very Good Product
After receiving the tent by UPS, my wife and I set it up in our family room, just for practice and to see how easy it really was. First time out of the box it took us about a minute and a half to set up. That, of course did not include stakes and guy lines. It took us about 5 minutes to take it down, primarily because we didn't get the air out on the first attempt and had to open it back up and do it again. But we finally got it back in the case.First time out in the field, it was my 13 yo grandson and I setting it up. It took a couple of minutes to get it up (in a 15 mph wind with gusts to maybe 20). Then we had to struggle with the stakes. This was not the fault of the tent - the ground was hard as a rock due to lack of rain! After staking was done and the guy lines were set, the tent was quite stable even in the wind. The only reason I gave it four stars rather than five is because the wind and the resulting rustling/flapping noise kept me awake a lot...

Amazon.com Tent Guide
Selecting a Tent
Fortunately, there are all kinds of tents for weekend car campers, Everest expeditions, and everything in-between. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

Expect the Worst
In general, it's wise to choose a tent that's designed to withstand the worst possible conditions you think you'll face. For instance, if you're a summer car camper in a region where weather is predictable, an inexpensive family or all-purpose tent will likely do the trick--especially if a vehicle is nearby and you can make a mad dash for safety when bad weather swoops in. If you're a backpacker, alpine climber, or bike explorer, or if you like to car camp in all seasons, you'll want to buy something designed to handle more adversity.

Three- and Four-Season Tents
For summer, early fall, and late spring outings, choose a three-season tent. At minimum, a quality three-season tent will have lightweight aluminum poles, a reinforced floor, durable stitching, and a quality rain fly. Some three-season tents offer more open-air netting and are specifically designed for summer backpacking or other activities. Many premium tents will also feature pre-sealed, taped seams and a silicone-impregnated rain fly for enhanced waterproofing.

For winter camping or alpine travel, go with a four-season model. Because they typically feature more durable fabric coatings, as well as more poles, four-season tents are designed to handle heavy snowfall and high winds without collapsing. Of course, four-season tents exact a weight penalty of about 10 to 20 percent in trade for their strength and durability. They also tend to be more expensive.

Domes and Tunnels
Tents are broadly categorized into two types: freestanding, which can stand up on their own, and tents that must be staked down in order to stand upright. Freestanding tents often incorporate a dome-shaped design, and most four-season tents are constructed this way because a dome leaves no flat spots on the outer surface where snow can collect. Domes are also inherently stronger than any other design. Meanwhile, many three-season models employ a modified dome configuration called a tunnel. These are still freestanding, but they require fewer poles than a dome, use less fabric, and typically have a rectangular floorplan that offers less storage space than a dome configuration. Many one and two-person tents are not freestanding, but they make up for it by being lighter. Because they use fewer poles, they can also be quicker to set up than a dome.

Size Matters
Ask yourself how many people you'd like to fit in your fabric hotel now and in the future. For soloists and minimalists, check out one-person tents. If you're a mega-minimalist, or if you have your eye on doing some big wall climbs, a waterproof-breathable bivy sack is the ticket. Some bivy sacks feature poles and stake points to give you a little more breathing room. Also, if you don't need bug protection and you want to save weight, check out open-air shelters.

Families who plan on car camping in good weather can choose from a wide range of jumbo-sized tents that will accommodate all your little ones with room to spare. A wide range of capacities is available for three- and four-season backpacking and expedition tents. Remember, though, the bigger the tent you buy, the heavier it will be, although it's easy to break up the tent components among several people in your group. It's also helpful to compare the volume and floor-space measurements of models you're considering.

I love Wenzel products!
So I took my tent out for a bachelor party weekend for my future brother in law back in March 2010 for a long weekend. Thankfully, I had the foresight to do a trial run to work out how to put the tent together because this was my first 5 sided tent. Setup was a breeze!!! Only problem I had was putting the rain cover on because I put it on facing the wrong way. It did better than expected because I set up my tent on wet ground and never felt wet the whole time. No moisture got in which is awesome when it got down to the 30s and I stayed dry. I have had a Wenzel sleeping bag for at least 15 years which is why I went with them for this tent. I will definitely use them again!

Pretty good for the price
GOOD:> Price is right. It feels like decent quality at this price. Good value.> Easy to build. Three poles and it's up. Almost can't do it wrong.> Pretty big inside. The little mesh "loft" thing is a great place to put wallet, flashlight, etc.> Pretty compact and fairly light when packed in its case.> Carrying case has good handles and is big enough to hold everything (without a ridiculously tight packing job).> The zippers work smoothly.LESS GOOD:> The rain fly is tiny. Looking at the picture, it's just that blue cap on top, maybe three feet across. That means the majority of the tent is waterproof, and thus not breathable. It needs more vents or bigger windows.> Lack of breathability means more condensation inside the tent, even in dry weather. You need to open the windows and door vents as you sleep. BUT, open windows are not waterproof any longer, so if it rains, you'll be awakened by raindrops. If you...

Customer Review

This = Big + Awesome - Expensive
We were looking for something a step up from the tiny 4 (felt like 2) person tent that we had and came across this Wenzel. The price is certainly decent and we decided to get it and try it out. We've set it up a few times and taken it on one camping trip and here are our thoughts thus far.Pros:-Huge! This thing dwarfs other tents and will surely make others jealous! We filled it with a queen size air mattress, a baby's pack-and-play, a camp chair, a ton of gear, and still only covered half the floor space and had plenty of room to walk around. You will easily forget you are sleeping in a tent. Do not underestimate the size of this thing, it is really, really big.-Easy to set up. Just four main poles and a very straightforward rain-fly.-Convenient. Not too heavy and folds back into its back without too much difficulty.-Inexpensive-Light-rain proof. Haven't tried it in a real storm but kept a light rain/dew off.Cons:...

Spacious and weather-resistant, the Wenzel Great Basin 18-by-10-foot dome tent sleeps up to nine campers in its two rooms, making it ideal for large families or smaller families with lots of gear. The Great Basin is made of rugged, weather-repellent Weather Armor polyester with a polyurethane coating for reliability, helping it keep water out and warmth in. The sonic-sealed polyethylene tub-style floor, meanwhile, is welded and not sewn, eliminating needle holes that might otherwise attract water seepage. And campers will love the variety of ventilation points--including two mesh back-to-back D-style doors and two polyester mesh windows--all of which are aided by an updraft ventilation system that improves the overall airflow.

The Great Basin is also easy to set up, with a shock-corded fiberglass frame and a pin-and-ring system. And when it comes time to hit the sheets, you can either create one huge sleeping room or roll down the divider curtain to create two separate rooms. The rooms can function as individual bedrooms for the campers or as a sleeping room and living room. Other details include two gear lofts for storage, two hanging pockets, a removable fly with a hoop frame over the door, and a storage duffel.

Specifications:

  • Base: 18 by 10 feet
  • Center height: 76 inches
  • Area: 159 square feet
  • Capacity: 9 people
  • Stakes: Steel and plastic

This tent is HUGE
This tent was a lot bigger than I expected it to be, which is a good thing. It is very roomy, so if you have a lot of people (or just a lot of stuff), this will work great. There is enough room for multiple adults to stand up straight without hitting their heads on the ceiling. Despite the fact that it is so big, it is very easy to set up (I set it up on my own, with no help). My only complaint is that the air circulation is rather poor. The windows are rather small compared to the size of the tent, so unless you have the rain fly off, it is very stuffy.

Traditional tent options like pole tents, framed tents and pop-up structures always forced one to make compromises on one or more these considerations. One simply had to make do. Now however thanks to the XGloo igloo event tent system one can find an option that excels on all important criteria. Event tents are a big expense, so it is important to get one that is well-suited to one's needs. XGloo tents are well-suited to the needs of corporations who need to set up areas at promotional and marketing events. Using the materials and engineering approaches used in the adventure sports of para sailing and kite boarding, the XGloo enclosure uses an inflatable exoskeleton made from highly flexible TPU tubing which provides a rigid support system when... The material used on many tents makes it impractical to use anything but the most basic colour choices and any additional signage must be added separately by attaching banners or posters. Event tents are a rather large expense so it makes sense to find a system that is versatile, highly portable and easy to put up and take down. It is important to first consider the type of event the tent or enclosure will be used for. Many traditional tents require a pole or frame structure be erected which can require numerous people to set-up.
