They left in the fun and took out the other stuff.
I've been playing this type of game since Wizardry came out on the Apple ][. And this is about the most entertaining dungeon crawl I've ever dove into! I don't want to spend time telling you what kind of game this is. You know that. I want to point out how REFINED this is. The developers know what you like and what's annoying. Stuff you like (loot!, violence!, MINIONS!!) is plentiful. Stuff you don't (long cutscenes, stupid storylines, micromanagement) is gone. Bash Monsters in the style YOU like. Snipe from long range? You can do that. Tear them apart in axe-to-face combat? You can do that! Swarm them with legions of undead minions? YOU CAN DO THAT! Go all John Woo - blazing away with a pistol in each hand? YOU... Excellent RPG by the original Diablo crew ...
I am about 50+ hours into this game, and I must say that it is one of the best RPG's I have played in a long time. I purchased this game from STEAM a month ago when it was on sale, but just wanted to let potential buyers know how great this game is. It is my understanding that many of the original developers from the Diablo 1 & 2 games (including the music person) have migrated over to Runic Games to make this fantastic RPG. Anyone familiar with the Diablo games will instantly recognize the music, the menus, and the gameplay ... but with many refinements and upgrades. The graphics are very nice, the music if fantastic, the gameplay is addictive, the quests are fun, and there is an abundance of loot to collect. A nice plus that I like with Torchlight is that when you exit your game and return at another time your character is at the same location and your progress picks up at that point ... no starting from town everytime like in Diablo 2. A bit misleading
Was a hybrid windows/mac install as described. However, what I was shipped was not a CD-ROM as the cover indicated. I received, instead, a DVD-ROM, which my computer cannot read. I suppose I need to buy a DVD-ROM drive anyway. At least this was cheaper than other listings of the DVD-ROM game. I was hoping the description was incorrect. Guess not. :P

If you liked Fate...
This game is, at it's heart, an expansion of Fate. Fate, in turn, is pretty much just Nethack with a graphical interface. (Diablo, like fate, is more or less decended from Nethack, so that's another point of comparison.) There's some minor differences - the addition of character classes, some added narrative, but its pretty much the same crawl the dungeon, kill the monster, take his loot format. A nice little timewaster. There are some minor targeting issues, but otherwise the game is very smooth, with pretty graphics, and a bug free, well thought out gaming experience.

Too bad it uses SecuROM :-(
First of all, I would like to mention that I have NEVER before had problems with DRM protected games not working on my PC, or DRM messing up my PC. I am not one of those people who go around writing bad reviews for everything that has DRM on it, this is the first time I even decided to review a game on here. While I am AGAINST DRM (the idea of it, and the principal) - this is the 1st time I have had a major issue with it. I bought this game (TRINE) at BEST BUY (the store... not online). I physically went down to the store, and purchased the actual game. I did NOT buy the digital download, or order it online. I have an external USB DVD RAM Drive, and no CD / DVD drives inside my PC. I WAS able to install the game from the DVD, however, my drive was making all kinds of crazy noises (I swear, I thought my drive would take off and fly out of the room under it's own power - it sounded like a freakin' helicopter LOL), and the install went VERY SLOWLY, for a game of...

'Trine' is a 3rd person, horizontal platform scroller, which I downloaded through 'Steam'; the cost...$29.99 However, don't let my opening statement regarding 3rd person scroller, put you off; this is an interesting and addictive game. In fact it won the 'Best Downloadable game' by 'Gamespot's' 3E Editor's Choice Awards. The Game: Three characters (a wizard, a thief and a knight) are physically joined into one person by a magic object called the 'Trine'. They must travel (all the while using their collective skills of conjuring, jumping, swinging and fighting), an evil-laden labyrinth to escape, and thus return themselves into their individual persons. Easy RPG Game for Casual Gamers
Generally I don't own many RPG games. I stumbled onto the original Fate and was promptly hooked. When the second one came out I had to have it and had a few recommendations for improving the experience. Any recommendations that I would have had were met in Fate The Traitor Soul. The first was that they would allow different types of characters. They have done this by creating Shadow Elf, Half Orc, and Cogger characters. For those that are wondering the Coggers are cyborgs of a type. As with all new changes the only further recommendation would be more than 2 facial options per gender per character type for the non-humans but not a distraction. Additionally each character has a different initial skill set. Their strength, dexterity, vitality, and magic as well as skill sets are going to be greater than the standards in the other two Fate programs. The second was that the pack needed to be bigger for the pet. The pet's pack is now three times the size and has...

A great game for casual players
I loved the original Fate when it came out, it was instantly one of my favourite PC games. It was a casual game which I could play for ten or twenty minutes and then save without worrying about finishing a level, getting past a plot, or getting to a safe place. It also was a casual game that wasn't a puzzle game or matching game. It was a casual RPG that was simple and actually very relaxing to play. I was instantly hooked on it. I played the original Fate at least three or four times through before the first expansion, Undiscovered Realms, came out. I bought Undiscovered Realms during the first week it came out, and though I still loved it I was disappointed. I loved that there were some new quest types, and there were new monsters and three new dungeons, but that was all that was new, and considering that the dungeons in fate are random every time you go through them it's still fun going through the same installment of the game over and over. A GOOD OLD SOUL CAN ONLY LEARN A FEW NEW TRICKS
The original was the PG version of DIABLO: cartoonish graphics, simplified quests, very limited gore and a cute child/hero running, fighting (and fishing!) in armor. The dungeons were endlessly random, the beasts well deserving their fate and the weapons and trinkets imaginative (and surprisingly expensive!). Overall, very fun to play!
