One of the best soundtracks ever
It definitely has to be among the top 5 soundtracks of all times. This outstanding work to go along with the road movie of all times, "Until The End Of The World," by wunder director, Wim Wenders, went beyond where most soundtracks had gone before it came out (1991) and set the pace for great soundtracks to come later on (The Insider, Traffic and others).Simply put the soundtrack gathered the cream of the music scene: opening and closing tracks in charge of Graeme Revell/David Darling; mood swings in charge of Talking Heads, Depeche Mode, Elvis Costello, Lou Reed, REM, Nick Cave, Patti Smith, Daniel Lanois and U2, among others; and one of the most beautiful songs of all times, "Calling All Angels" by Canadian Jane Siberry, topping it all.The one big missing song from this album is the very special version of "Blood Of Eden" that Peter Gabriel rearranged for this movie, in one of its most beautiful moments: when Solveig Dommartin and William Hurt's...

My favorite soundtrack of all time!
I first heard this soundtrack being played at a friend's place back around 1992-93(?). I bought it a couple years later, having been completely impressed by what I heard and not being able to forget it. All the songs are great. Someone else titled their review "The greatest soundtrack ever". You'd be hard-pressed to find an argument against this claim.This soundtrack holds a particularly special place in my musical memory, because it was the "soundtrack" of my life while living at one of my first apartments. I had loads of incredible times in this place, and it seemed this CD was alwyas in my CD player. I was hooked on it. It was playing during a particularly memorable time for me... while I was getting to know a young lady who had just moved in across the hall from me. Underrated?...yes. Unforgettable?...HELL yes!
This has to be one of the most ignored soundtracks of the decade, and the sad part of that is it is one of the best soundtracks of the century. Graeme Revell has established himself as a great film score composer with movies like "The Crow," and "Strange Days," so his music here is no less poignant and ethereal. Very fitting and beautiful. U2's "Until the End of the World" was already a great song on "Achtung Baby," so merely a different version can't hurt too much. If anything, it is the title song so how can it be bad? Depeche Mode's "Death's Door" is a peaceful little song from the "Songs of Faith and Devotion" outtakes and it fits the mood of the film and the soundtrack very well. Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, the Talking Heads, and Lou Reed, all dark in their own unique ways, but essentially the best at what they do, provocative emotional music. This film, Until the End of the World (UTTEOTW), has long been called the ultimate road movie or even the greatest road movie ever made. Sometimes when I read stuff like that I cringe and think that this film is far greater than that and calling it a road movie does it a sort of disservice. I've watched this film probably hundreds of times (hate to admit) and in every different format available and have weighed this film, measured this film and only found myself wanting to see it again.Sure, the film spans 15 cities and 7 different countries and has more story arcs than Los Angeles has McDonalds but the more I watch the film the more I feel that this is less of a road movie and more of a biopic of the fictitious would-be scientist, Sam Faber and his over-bearing family.I feel that UTTEOTW is a much greater contribution to modern film then most are willing to admit and could quite possibly be one of the greatest films ever made. A haunting movie, one of my favorites.
There are some rare movies that seem to expand the limits of film and reveal possibilities only heretofore imagined. This film is one of them, which shouldn't be a surprise, considering that it IS a Wim Wenders film. I wish I could explain WHY this movie is so haunting, so powerful and why it tugged so strongly at my heart - but that would be like trying to explain the magic of a beautiful symphony. If you like movies that have a straight plot, from beginning to end, be forewarned - this movie may not be for you. The movie can be loosely explained (very loosely) as a man trying to escape a killer while traveling through 15 cities and 8 continents. But it is far, far more than the plot outline can reveal. If you like movies that make you think about the human condition, in all its variations, this is a great pick. Take a chance and prepare to have your mind blown by this one! I’m wondering what the theory is behind selecting one of the rejects to be the star of the subsequent season. that started about fifteen years ago, when I bought a scratch ticket on a whim and won $60 and used that in Las Vegas shortly thereafter and won about $300. To the point where we’re going to be seeing 18 women competing for Carrot Top or Dr. Phil. They’re just going to raise the retirement age to 80 and reduce the benefits to $3 a month. I ended up buying a second-hand Kenneth Cole jacket with sleeves that are too long, but it only cost me $8. I spent a lot of time trying to find one for myself.
