Not real wasabi, but so what? Still great on sushi!
Several reviewers point out that this product is made with horseradish, not real wasabi, and gave it a low rating because they perceive it to be "fake". Yes, horseradish is much inferior to real wasabi in taste qualities, but I think that is missing the point. Very few people outside of Japan know what real wasabi tastes or even looks like, so the point is moot. If you are looking at any kind of prepared "wasabi" product, chances are almost 100% that it will be Western horseradish (seiyo wasabi) and not Japanese wasabi. Don't expect to find 100% pure wasabi in a tube.Japanese routinely eat sushi with "fake" wasabi, so there is no stigma against it. Real wasabi is too prized and scarce to grind up in large batches and let sit around. Once grated, real wasabi loses its pungency very quickly in the presence of oxygen (within 15-20 minutes). When presented to diners, wasabi is offered as a small root placed on top of a grater so you can grind the paste yourself.Few...

Wow, that's hot.
I would like to start off by saying I'm no expert on food - especially sushi. But I know I like sushi so much so that I learned to make it at home rather than go out to an expensive restaurant to get it. So I bought some wasabi because you can't really have sushi without it in my opinion. Some reviewers don't like this because they claim it isn't real wasabi. That may be true - I don't know quite honestly. I just know that although the texture was a little creamier than what I got in a restaurant, it still did the trick. It was very hot and I really liked it. But use VERY sparingly. I made the mistake of putting too much on, I thought it wouldn't pack a punch and wow was I wrong. This tube will last me quite awhile. I have made three batches of sushi and I haven't hardly put a dent in the bottle yet.

The Princess of Hot Stuff
"Hime" is "Princess Brand" and it is a big seller in Japanese and Korean grocery stores. This faintly green powder is mixed with water to make a thick paste to get wasabi, used for sushi, sashimi and to flavor tuna and other dishes. One trick is to mix the wasabi in a rice bowl or tea bowl and turn the bowl upside-down. Yes, that's what I said, turn it over. The paste will stick in the bowl, and the developing sulfurous gases that make wasabi hot, hot, hot are retained, improving the bite. Get that wasabi buzz. I like to use it in tuna with wasabi-potato crust. Or being short on time, I just grill some yellowtail and mix a wasabi-sugar-soy sauce glaze and brush it on at the end of the grilling. Hot and sweet. Another totally bizarre but quite normal Japanese dish is wasabi nori chazuke, or tea-rice. Get some leftover rice warmed up in a bowl, put a dab of wasabi and a sprinkle of sushi nori strips. Pour hot green tea (bancha) over and drink like a soup. Said...

Quick and handy...
Great flavor for something so quick and easy. It is just like wasabi from the restaurants, but in the convenience of your home. It is just add water and I like the idea you can make it as thin or thick as you wish...

This stuff will spice up your love life.
Well, maybe it won't actually spice up your love life, but then what can you say about powdered Wasabi. Besides, it got you reading this review. We mix thoroughly two tablespoons of the powder with about a half cup of fat-free mayonnaise. Use it as a table condiment. Good stuff!

Customer Review

Very economical ounce for ounce compared to tubed wasabi
Exported from Japan, this is a very good "fake" wasabi powder (nearly all tubed and powdered wasabi is actually horseradish). 25g of powder is a lot, so this can will last you a long long time, making this a very economical choice for sushi lovers. I bought a tin of it 2 years ago and have still not gone through it all. To prepare, just mix with a bit of cold water and wait several minutes for the flavor to develop, then enjoy with sushi or sashimi. My directions are vague as to how much to use and how long to wait because the can's directions are not specific. Reconstituted, it's every bit as good as tubed wasabi. I find that a teaspoon of powder is more than sufficient for one person.Make only as much as you need and right before you are about to use it. The chemicals that give horseradish (and real wasabi) its pungency are very volatile and will dissipate quickly when exposed to air (15-30 mins). Don't think you'll save time by making a big batch of it and refrigerating...

Best wasabi after the real root shredings
I have not found a better wasabi powder.Ofcourse the best wasabi is the actual scrapings of the root, but this is next to it. Strong, no aditives.

this is the real deal
This is it, what I have been looking for, you need an oxygen mask to eat this stuff, very similar to the very famous chinese hot mustard, be careful about offering it to unsuspecting friends, one person threatened to sue me.

This snack is the bomb.
Wasabi Hot Peas are delicious. They have just enough heat to make your mouth sing. Crunchy like nuts, and easy to digest. As the old commercial said, " try it, you'll like it". And, if you try it and you don't like it, SEND THEM TO ME.

Yummy!
I am practically addicted to wasabi peas and this is definitely the best brand. They're crunchy and spicy and not hard to chew like some brands I've tried. Plus, the Amazon price beats all the stores around here.

Not so hot
I had guests who really like these but I guess I am used to my peas being really hot. I took a can and mixed it up with a package from Trader Joes. Now those are hot! I still think I'll continue to purchase these because others seem to really like it. They thought these were hot enough.

Great for making sushi!
This is my favorite wasabi for making sushi. It's also great to use in the soy sauce when eating sushi as well. No hassles, no mess and convenient.

Wasaaaabiiiii!
First thing to know about this product is that it isn't actually wasabi. Actual wasabi, known as hon-wasabi, comes from that lovely sinus-clearing wasabi plant, and should be grated right from the root much like ginger. It can be found in tube form as well, but that is much rarer. This little squeeze-tube, like the powder stuff, is just regular horseradish, mustard seed and some food coloring. It contains 0% of the actual wasabi plant, and the flavor is different from hon-wasabi, although similar. But it still works. For most recipes, using the expensive hon-wasabi would be a waste of money, and this imitation does the job just fine. I personally keep both kinds, hon-wasabi for when I am using it directly for sashimi and a tube of the old faithful S&B for when I want to make wasabi-flavored dishes. It is too bad that it is so expensive, because this tube would go for about a dollar a pop in Japan, but that is the price of imports eh?

Fast, Fun, Easy Game - But Shop Around for Price
First, a bit of a warning. I ordered mine from Eric Robinson via Amazon. $39.99Found it the next day at Fairplay games for $23.45THEN found it at Cardhaus for only $22.95 (and $5 less shipping).Ouch. Those differences are huge. This game is not out of print nor is it a high volume seller a la Nintendo Wii. So these prices are just crazy. I came very close to returning mine to save the money. So, lesson 1 - shop around. Shop the Amazon partners but also the Internet. I'll definitely be avoiding Eric Robinson regardless.Anyway, on to the game.Nice, colorful box. Sturdy.Four pages of illustrated rules. Two sets provided (English and German). They are on rather thin paper but you can download them in pdf format from boardgamegeek.com. Search for Wasabi! and go to the bottom where "files" can be downloaded. It's basically a "tile placement" game. You manage your ingredients to...

A lot of fun
I played this at AOD yesterday and it was a little hard to understand the rules at first but as soon as you start to play it makes a lot of sense and is very fun. I am buying it and will enjoy it even more.

Perfect!
This game is perfect! From design to game mechanics, from playing time to fun factor, from strategic to vertiginous.I cannot tell how much my girlfriend, brothers, friends and I have enjoyed this game. I presume this can be perfect for anybody. It is not a long game but it has the characteristics of more complex abstract strategy ones. The design are beautiful (at first I was afraid they sent me the german version, but all the materials come in 2 idioms, english and german.)This game will want you play one match after another and it is suitable for a very large public, from small children to elder people. I totally recommend it.The game mechanics are so closely defined that it is nearly impossible to find any flaws on them. (Unless you add some home-made rules variants, that is) and yet it leaves nearly 90% of the fun factor to the creativity and planning of each player.
