Zhu Zhu Zooming Through My Room!
Picked up two of these guys the other day since they happened to be in the store and I happened to be in the store. A little bit of background first: I'm a 26 year-old collector of many things including robotic pets. I've tried out Furbys, Micropets, Neopets, Scoozie pets, Petal-chi, Mutsu, Fureal Friends, and more so I consider myself a bit of an expert on the subject. To start with, these things eat batteries, have triple A's on hand. Second, I don't have any playsets, I'm just testing the hamsters. Upon opening and removing this little guy I tried out "cuddle mode", which was a little disappointing. The hamster will lie still and make cute noises every few seconds or so but he isn't really responding to anything. "Try me mode" is when the hamster is off but you can push his nose to hear a random noise, not a lot of fun there. Now play mode, that's where the fun is. The wheels are fast and the grip is really strong, I promptly put it on my boyfriend to see...

not even worth the $8
My daughter got this toy a few days ago for her birthday from her aunt who searched the city for it. So far, it has been played with for about 10 minutes total. It just makes some weird noises not even related to a hamster... horn honking, whirling. It gets stuck in corners because it flips on its back. That is where I have found it mostly...in a corner. Not soft enough to sleep in the bed with children. Nor do I think that would be safe. When the wheels turn, they are very fast and strong. The grip would wrap long hair and not let go. Wheels do not turn off with pressure. It think that is where the age recommendation comes in. Rolls on hard floor only, not carpeting.

A rodent on wheels
This was purchased for my daughter. I was afraid it would be one of those toys purchased then set aside. It's funny and makes cute noises, is responsive to being petted, and rolls all over the house. Still, it is now a dust collector after a month. If only we could convince the child to contribute to her own college fund.... sigh..... anyone want to buy a slightly used rolling hamster???

Even fun for the elderly and young at heart!!!!!
I bought this for an 83 year old lady that lives in an assisted living unit. She absolutely loves it. It has been the talk of the complex since Christmas. He naps in his little bed and covers up with his blanket. He runs around and shows off for visitors as there is a sign on her door that there is a hamster in residence.

The Good and the Bad
We've got pretty much all of the accesories for the Zhu Zhu pets. The wheel actually does not move freely very well but the hamster will go down the tunnel get on the wheel and run in place then back down the tunnel. At first I was very dissappointed that the wheel wasn't really spinning (it does move but spinning is a stretch) but my 4 year old didn't seem bothered by it. now I actually kind of prefer this one because it's one that actually keeps the hamster contained in the funhouse. The slide lets the hamster out onto the floor as does the car and garage which is fine if you have a very large area for the whole set but the hamster runs better in the plastic pieces. As for durability the slide and garage are constantly coming detached (the 2 year old tends to knock them around) but this one has stayed attached pretty good, maybe because the tunnel is shorter than others. If you're not familiar with these you should know the accessories are snap together pieces - the plastic...

I think we got a good wheel.. its cute!
We have the wheel for the zhu-zhus.. and I'm seeing a lot of comments that the wheel doesnt spin freely - well, ours sure does! All three of our zhu-zhus can run in the wheel freely, and it spins just fine here! Perhaps for some it wasnt put together properly? Not sure there.. but we bought a wheel that works just fine! And, this add on accessory happens to be one of the more sturdy ones - we have never had a problem with this particular accessory falling apart or coming undone.. it stays put! The hamster does not get stuck in the tunnel here.. but, you do have to help the zhu-zhu back into the tunnel (just by pushing its nose, redirecting it to go back into the tunnel) when he is "done" exercising ("done" defined when you are done seeing him run in the wheel!) - So, it would be nice if the zhu-zhu would go back into the tunnel after entering the wheel by itself.. but it doesnt. Nevertheless, this accessory gets a 5 stars b/c it is a lot of fun, stays together, and...

Don't Waste Your Money Terrible!
These toys don't work. They get stuck constantly, the plastic tubes are cheap and break very easily. My child got very frustrated and bored quickly. Don't waste your money. If you must try this, wait until they are at Walmart or Target for $7.

Not worth the hype
My daughter wanted these after seeing them advertised on TV numerous times. If you buy the toys for regular price at Wal-Mart or ToysRUs then it's not so bad because they are very cheaply made. The funhouse comes unsnapped frequently--very cheap plastic parts. The hamster ball is also cheap and comes unsnapped, and the hamsters flip on their backs frequently and you have to open the ball and put them back on their feet. The hamsters themselves are cute BUT they flip over alot when used with the component pieces and you have to put them right side up to work. They are also a bit noisey--you can hear the wheels. My daughter lost interest in them very quickly. Paying more than the base price for them is paying way too much---especially the component pieces. She has the funhouse, the blanket, the carrier, the ball, the surfboard, and the car, plus all 4 hamsters. We bought everything at once. In summary, don't pay these outrageous prices for a cheaply...

Put away after one day
My daughter saw this on T.V. and had to have it. She got it for her 7th birthday. The hamster is cute, and she still plays with that (on the hard wood floor - doesn't run well at all on carpet). However, I also bought her this funhouse along with the garage (worst piece) and the wheel. When you put it all together (which is not easy), the toy is huge. I don't really have the room for a big piece of plastic toy of this size, but I was willing to get it for her because it is all she wanted. Big mistake, you can't move it once you get it together or it falls to pieces. Sometimes the pieces just come apart. The garage never worked, and the wheel ramp never fit together correctly. This toy is such a waste of money. Holiday shoppers are getting scammed this year! Thank goodness I did not pay these ridiculous prices for this toy. I bought mine at Toys 'r us before I even knew it was going to be a big deal. To sum up - the hamsters are cute, but the rest is big, plastic junk that...

Real Toy review!!!
This is the base toy for all of the Zhu Zhu or Go Go pets sets... It is the hamsters house.. They know what room they are in and act accordingly.. Brush teeth in the bathroom and sleep in bed.. This set has kept my children entertained for hours!!! It has gotten me out of having to buy a real Hamster and when they don't feel like playing with it - they don't have to or feel neglectful. No smell and no buying food.. I can not wait for the babies and outfits to come out. They be expensive right now because of the high demand. but still well worth it. Enjoy!!!

The ramp is cute!
This is our second favorite add on accessory to the zhu-zhu fun house! It is a lot of fun to see the zhu-zhus go up the ramp, come down and keep on going! It is also very sturdy - we havent had to do any modifications on the ramp b/c it is built pretty good.. stays together, doesnt come apart or anything. Someone mentioned that they had problems with the zhu-zhus getting stuck in the ramp.. let them go! They get "stuck" all the time, its on purpose..! Often times they'll get to the very top, stick their nose out and make little sounds for about 10 seconds or so, and come right back down the ramp and try it again! Its kinda cute.. it does this often - it'll stop going up the ramp for a few seconds, and either continue on or go sliding right on back down. We have never had any problems with the zhu-zhu becoming permanently stuck (well, unless you count two of the zhu-zhus trying to go up the ramp at the same time, then yeah.. these things dont share very good, do...

Hamsters run wild!
Ok, the ramp and slide work fine but what is suppose to connect to the bottom of the slide?? The bottom has a different connector so none of the other components work with it and the hamsters just run wild after leaving the slide. We would like to connect the bottom of the slide back into a tunnel or round-about or something but none of the products fit! Blocking the bottom doesn't work either since the hamsters cannot back up or turn around on the slide. This seems to be an oversight in the design of this product.

I am surprised to see it's a hit for 4-year & 9-year-old nieces
I heard of these toys from a friend but didn't really think much about it. A little mechanical hamster that runs around and makes some noise, nah.... that's what I thought and I said to myself that I would never buy such a toy for my kids. Then I intended to buy some play doh or coloring books for my nieces who will visit us, and I saw these little guys on the shelf. I asked a sale's person, and he explained to me why this is popular and fun with kids, and somehow he convinced me that this would make a fun toy for 4 and 9 years old girls. So I decided to go for it. Well, my nieces were very happy to hold them in their hands, find a small box to put them in with dish towel over them as a blanket, and then carry the box all around the house. And they even built a little house and entry way with magna tiles (which is my favorite toy anyway) to sleep in or hide in. I could see them nurturing and caring of a pet. I realized that when you're a little kid, it is...

We love zhu zhu pets!
They are silly, yes. But they are so fun and not to mention adorable. We have had ours for about 3 months and we have had no problems with the durability. I wish people would stop giving the toys bad reviews because they are mad about the mark-up (which does suck) because these toys are fun! I have just as much fun with them as my three year old son,and 10 year old niece! We barely use the accessories though, they were sort of a waste of money. My kiddo just lets his run all around the floor, and sometimes the hamster ball. The other stuff just collects dust.

Very Cute But Doesn't Last
I purchased, "Jilly" for my daughter for Christmas. I was so excited to see they had a pink one! She received it on Christmas Eve and it worked great. It was so cute! She didn't play with it much yesterday since we were out and about. However, today she pulled it out and it worked for about five minutes. Then she brought it to me...no sound and it would not move. I naturally replaced the batteries...nothing. I then took the whole thing apart. I was able to get the sound to work when the nose (which fell out incidentally)is pushed. However, the buttons on the top no longer work at all and the wheels no longer turn. I have read multiple reviews on Toys R Us.com that complain about this very same problem! This is such a shame. I know these things are cheap, but do they really have to stop working after only a full day of play? My daughter is so disappointed and so am I. I will be calling the company on Monday...keeping my fingers crossed that they will send me a replacement...
