Fast paced light horror with a bit of magical fantasy
A young mother dies in childbirth and begs her husband to forgive her and accept the child. He looks down at a child that can't possibly be his, and decides that he loved his wife enough to raise her child even if she was unfaithful once. The boy is a sunny, bright child with an unusual preference for cold weather and a great imagination that insists he can talk to owls and invents a magical world. As the magical world becomes more real, the father fears that he will lose his child, and wonders what is really best for the boy. I liked this father. He listened to his son and believed him even when what he said seemed impossible. Also, when confronted with the possibility of losing his son, he cared more about his son than about himself. This is a light, fast paced story with a satisfying ending. The horror comes from the universal fear of losing a child and not from anything creepy or monstrous.
