Great for recording video game consoles
To start off, I'm writing this review solely from the perspective of someone using this to record footage from video game consoles (an Xbox 360, in my case), because that's why I bought it and that's all I've used it for so far. Upon opening the box, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that there was a component cable included, a nice bonus. The first thing you'll notice is how light the device itself is. The all-plastic body and the lack of weight contribute to give it a slight cheap feeling, but this is not reflective of the overall quality of the device, as I'm about to explain. The HD PVR has pass-through outputs, which means you can plug your console into the PVR and then the PVR into your TV (with the included component cable), eliminating the need to split the signal. I was a little bit worried about any input lag caused by the pass-through, but I was thankful to discover that there is absolutely none. The one downside of this, if any, is that the...

Works great ... very happy!
I've been thinking about upgrading my archiving capabilities for a while now. For the last 5 years or so, I used a Panasonic DVD recorder to offload my shows and football games from my Directv HD DVR. It did the job quite nicely. However, I really wanted to go HD all the way to the disk. I was looking for the simplest solution possible. That means, capture the footage, edit it(with no re-encoding), make the menus and burn the file to disk while maintaining excellent quality. I ended up getting the Hauppauge HDPVR about 2 months ago and was quite happy with it. I happen to come across the Hauppauge Colossus purely by accident, and fortunately for me, was able to return the HD PVR before the 30 days were up. My main reasons for keeping the Colossus were: 1)It costs less 2)It's an internal PCI-e card 3)It can record at a higher bitrate 4)It can record from an unencrypted HDMI source First of all, let me just say that I...

Best Capture Card Ever
After going through a horrific experience with AverTV HD DVR, I bought this product directly through Hauppauge. This card tops AverTV HD DVR 10 fold. No questions asked. Best part, this card does all of the video encoding, meaning your PC's CPU hardly does anything at all. The quality that it gives is incredible with the file size being relatively small. Colossus gets captured using software such as WinTV and Arcsoft. WinTV records into a format of .ts. You can easily import the .ts file into adobe premiere if you rename .ts to .mpg. No problem. You can record pretty much anything except for PS3 through HDMI, but you can record Xbox 360 and PC through HDMI. Pros: Hardware Encoder (No CPU Usage) Excellent Quality Great Software Video and Audio are in sync Cons: None.

Windows Media Center & HD - Awesome!!
Hi Folks! As a long-time Media Center user I bought this card after changing over my cablevision to HD. My provider is Shaw and I'm using the Motorola DCX3400 (a DVR in it's own right - albeit a 'stripped down' DVR compared to Media Center). So the goal was to get HD into Media Center and continue using Media Center as my DVR. This card does that - and more. Many of the reviews on this site about Media Center support being difficult or buggy are not correct. The install routine is also very easy.If you're aiming for Media Center integration, don't install anything from the disk. Download the latest Media Center package from their site as well as the latest driver for the card. <= that step is very important as Media Center support is maturing all the time and the latest software from the site is always the best move.Installing for Media Center is about a 5 step process and it's dead-simple. The card does take about 4 seconds to display...

Works Great, But Slow
This charger works perfectly for me and unlike others, it chardges mine to 100%. My only compliant is how slowly it charges. I have never timed it, but it needs somewhere in the neighborhood of 6-8 hours to charge an extended battery. I would defenitely recommend it to a friend, though.

Got exactly what I wanted. Only downfall was that I could not use my phone while I had the phone connected to the usb cord from the port on the bottom.

great for watching tv on multiple computers
Great quality it sends tv signal over the internet. So in a house or office environment all the computers in the network can watch the same channel. On the computer you install software that allows you to watch and even record shows. This one is HD and the quality is really good. You can tell it is a mpg though. You'll see occasionally those bits and squares that come with that. Even when you watch full screen it looks great though. The faster the movement the more pixelated it looks especially on the fast moving letters but football looks good and so does tennis. There is at least a 3 second delay to what you are watching so you can't use it to play video games.

Better than Slingbox!
I have owned a Slingbox PRO for over a year, and was fairly happy with it ... until I got the Hava Platinum HD. Not only does Hava have a better picture than Slingbox, it also has more features, and is less expensive. Those additional features include being able to watch a program over more than one computer at a time, plus a feature that essentially turns your computer into a DVR with DVD copying capability. This DVR capability provides independent control to each computer to pause, stop or fast forward the video...and it gets around the time delay of having to send those type of commands to a DVR cable box using the Hava virtual remote control. Or, you can simply copy the video onto your hard drive, watch it later ... or copy it onto a DVD, making Hava much more versatile than the Slingbox. Of course Hava does not display a true HD video...HD is converted to a wide screen 480i format, just like that on a commercial DVD, and the resulting video has a quality close to...

BUY Openbox S10 HD Satellite Receiver PVR

Buy a Pvr

I recently bought a Hauppauge 1440 HD-PVR Gaming Edition from Amazon (Amazon was the seller and it was new). I’ve been playing with an HDMI cable but the HD-PVR only allows component (which is already included).

Bottom line is that its down to us to spread the word – I for one bore my friends, family and house guests with a tour of my Freesat PVR and some HD content on each of their visits and can happily say that 2 family members have bought a PVR since... If only Humax could ramp up supplies of their PVR we might all be happy. To have terms that say they can’t promote the service becuase by promoting the service they’d also technically be promoting the other unmentioned channels on it is just polictical correctness gone mad. They are doing a great job of bringing HD into my home for free and thats good enough for me. ITV are doing their bit advertising the HD on Freesat angle ( albeit not exactly delivering the content as yet but seem to be improving) and it appears... Its like saying that by promoting healthy eating on BBC programmes, the BBC are also promoting all the commercial companies that sell healthy products. That way they could advertise Freesat as a service, but just mention their own channels on there and the fact that there are X number of channels in total. My input, for what it is worth, is that as a customer who has no interest in sport, which is 90% dominated by the moronic game of football in any case, and the inclusion of HD now makes my Sky HD box and subscription look positivley unattractive... The terms need to be re-worded so the BBC is free to promote the service (they do own the Freesat company after all) but just not mention any other channels that are on there except by total number. Yeah the terms that the BBC trust set up need to be looked at as they currently don’t work regarding advertising, in fact they work to be biased against the BBC. As I understand it the BBC can’t advertise the service because to do so would be technically also spending money on also advertising the other channels on there.

With a retail price of two hundred dollars, the Hauppauge 1445 HD PVR Gaming Edition doesn’t come cheap, but the device does offer an elegant and effortless method of capturing high-definition gaming footage. Connecting the recorder is idiot-proof, thanks to the clearly marked inputs and outputs on the HD PVR itself- as well as designators to help differentiate between the red audio and video connectors on each component cable. While setting-up the unit is undemanding, calculating the HD PVR’s placement might be a puzzler due to the USB cable’s 5 foot length. By design, the HD PVR records with the H. 264 video compression standard, the same codec used by Blu-ray disks. Unlike competitors like the Roxio Gamecap which noticeable degrade picture quality, the HD PVR faultlessly preserved the fidelity of the console. Upon opening the HD PVR carton, it is apparent that Hauppauge is concerned about customer satisfaction. Hopefully your rig is no more than an arm’s length away from where to plan to position the HD PVR. If wrapped in a soft cloth to prevent marring, the HD PVR is easily transportable. 0 cable, as well as a another component  cable with multiple inputs permitting connection to a Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, or Wii. An additional setting allows for changing the bitrate of compression, permitting anything from space-saving 1 Mbit/sec recordings to immaculate 13 Mbit/sec captures.
